2016 MBB Recruiting: 5* F Miles Bridges to visit Michigan today
Per Sam Webb, the 5* F from Flint is set to be on campus today. He's really, really good and this is a big development. We're in his top 5, but before now he hadn't even visited. Webb has previously stated that he thinks we have a shot with Bridges if we can reel in Winston since the two are friends. Assuming his grades are in order, he will almost assuredly leave with an offer.
Most think Bridges is Kentucky or MSU bound, with the other three schools in his top 5 trailing by a wide margin.

Opportunity occasionaly takes precedence over other factors for highly ranked guys. MSU's 2016 class is absolutely loaded right now and may get even better. A guy like Bridges, despite deep MSU ties, may want to head somewhere (like UM) where there would be more opportunity to be the offensive focal point. That said, he's strongly considering Kentucky so I could just be spouting off nonsense.
so he's going to Kentucky
Sadly, if UK really wants a player, they get him. The boosters take care of it. I can't wait until the NCAA wakes up and allows players to take money from whoever wants to pay them as long as it doesn't involve gambling.

At least we have the best uniforms now.
Argh. We've all but painted ourselves into taking only one of Bridges and Winston by accepting the committment last week. And we need a point guard. I don't think this dude is leaving with an offer.
Recruiting has been a tirefire this year.
The word is that Michigan is not done recruiting wings for 2016.
I will leave it at that.

Irvin (and/or Walton) going pro is more likely than a player transfer.
I don't see any benefit to naming names when it comes to potential transfer candidates when we hope they can be major assets to the program in the upcoming season. We all know the guys who haven't performed to date - If they transfer after the year they transfer, but speculating about individuals before the season even starts seems classless to me. Nobody expected Max Bielfeldt to be playing for Indiana this year, so lets just wait and see...
Come on, Walton and Irvin are not going pro. There is always a decent shot at a transfer on teams that are deep with talent.
Irvin could, if he builds upon what he did at the end of last season. Hard to pass up a 6'6 shooter with good ball skills like he displayed.
Walton will be a 4 year guy. Howevr, Irvin has gotten some late first round buzz in mock drafts recently, which are obviously irrevelant at this point in the year.
You're missing his entire point.
Irvin's probably gone if he plays like he did at the end of last year and shoots 40% from 3 (which seems highly likely). He needs to improve on D - otherwise he'll be a proven knock-down shooter in a league that is drooling for them. Irvin has good length, strength, and adequate athleticism. He'll go in the second half of round 1 if he improves as expected.
Another way of thinking about this is - what is a 1st round pick like Irvin (or LeVert) worth? A first round pick has more value to an NBA team than Jamal Crawford, Nik Stauskas, Trey Burke, Jordan Morgan, GR3, and every other Michigan basketball player not named Mitch McGary or Tim Hardaway Jr. Not saying he's a better basketball player than all these guys right now, but nobody is going to trade a first round pick to get them, due to age, cost, potential for improvement, etc. THJ got traded for a late first rounder, and that was a surprise to everyone, but it's not likely that anyone else would do that for another Michigan player (McGary excepted).
Walton's a long shot but nobody should be acting like this is impossible. His freshman season compares well with Trey Burke. People seem to forget that. Last year he was hurt. And yes - he's short. He'll still be short in 2017 too... Walton/LeVert/Irvin are all poised to have huge seasons. Don't be surprised if you see three Michigan players on next years draftboard.
I hope you are right, but Irvin will be the 4th option on this team if everyone is healthy. That makes it awfully hard to get drafted unless you play at Kentucky or are a freshman with incredible potential.
Aaron Harrison is a pretty good comp. Not quite the shooter but clutch. He didn't even get drafted.
The big deficiency in Harrison's game was shooting. That would be the reason that Irvin gets drafted in the first place.
Walton/LeVert/Irvin are the big 3. Not sure who you have ahead of Irvin...Spike?
Except if you look at the support Walton had around him his freshman year compared to Burke, it's not at all comparable. Burke was the focal point of every opponent, Walton was maybe 4th or 5th.
Trey's usage was 27% to Walton's 18%. Given that Walton had Stauskas, Robinson, Irvin and LeVert around him instead of Hardaway, Douglass, Novak I think that makes some sense. Trey was more prolific, Walton was more efficient, their offensive ratings were very similar.
More often than not, both guys were getting defended by whoever the opposing PG was.
You have a point, but it shouldn't overstated. Walton was really good and so was Burke. The big difference didn't come until their sophomore years when Trey went nuts and Walton got hurt.
Agreed.

Michigan expects to have 1 or 2 more spots left due to attrition and/or the possibility of Davis coming in for 2017. Nobody knows what attrition may come yet and it's too soon to know specifics, but it's likely there will be some.
No reason to think this will be an exception.
There are 2 2016 five stars from Michigan (Jackson, Bridges) and another borderline one in Winston and Michigan may not get any of them. I appreciate Beilein as much as the next person but our recruiting is not where it's supposed to be. Michigan has had enough success where we should not have to settle for sleeper prospects.
"I can't wait until our fanbase realizes we will never be Kentucky or Duke or North Carolina or even MSU."
You do realize that Michigan used to be the dominant program instate prior to 2000.
Ed Martin didn't bring every good player we had into Michigan and Tom Izzo has always recruited well . JB has hurt himself in not recruited players before their junior years while Izzo and others establish relationships when the prospect is a freshman.
Are you trying to ignore the reason we were the dominant program? This is such bullcrap. We were a good basketball program for a long time, making the national championship game in the 1960s, '70s, '80s and '90s. It's annoying enough to have rival fans ignorantly act like we have no history, but for a Michigan fan to do it is pathetic.
Most fans don't know this but Michigan Basketball and Duke Basketball were very similar from the 60s until the early 90s. I didn't know this until a college basketball historian pointed out all the similarities.
In fact, Michigan won a National Championship before Duke ever did. But then Coach K's greatness took over in the late 80s which culminated in the repeat while Steve Fisher failed to win it all with the Fab 5.
It went downhill after we got sanctioned and we lost an entire decade. Tom Izzo built his program on the carcass of Michigan Basketball. Tommy Amaker tried to ressurrect us but failed. John Beilein brought us back from the dead. And for that, I hope he wins at least one National Championship as our Head Coach.
We're not consiered a basketball blue blood because we have a 1-5 record in National Championship games despite a 6-1 record in Final Fours. If we had a few more, we would be right there with Kansas or UConn.

You can say we will never be Duke or Kentucky but we once competed with them annually on the hardwood... That success combined with a wordclass education should count for something. I bet if Calipari coached at Umich or Coach K as well, Jackson, Bridges and Winston would already be in tow. There has to be something said about the best players in the state not wanting to play for the best school in the state.
He's in CA to finish HS. Not a typical in-state kid. If you followed his recruitment, you wouldn't fault our coaches for not getting him.
Beilein recruited a two top 10ish classes in back to back years. Previous coaches have landed top10 classes too. The last couple classes have come close to that but missed. It happens...
Michigan can absolutely outrecruit MSU. Done it before, can do it again. Michigan should be aiming to recruit at the Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State, UConn, Texas level and there is no reason they can't. You want to cede the upper echelon to Kentucky, Kansas, UNC and UCLA -- fine -- but let's not pretend that Michigan is Marquette, Gonzaga or Purdue. Michigan is no underdog.
A southpaw who finshes well with both hands, bangs in the post, passes well, and shoots the 3. His game should translate even when he does not have the ability to dominate physically.
Time for that Jordan Jumpman contract term to start paying dividends!
Think I'm buying those...
I hear he's already cornered the local market on the entire Jumpman stock.
by a 5 star hoop recruit until they walk out on the floor in a Michigan uniform.
Good advice.
