Early M v. Utah preview at SB Nation

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

Ok, this is a bit early but still welcome--actual football content and analysis in July, from SB Nation, with x's and o's and attempts at predicting Harbaugh's approach in the game.

"Some of the talent Hoke recruited might finally be experienced enough to find answers against the kinds of teams that have given Michigan fits, teams with perhaps lesser athletes but sounder systems. Utah has been that kind of team."

They had 3 guys drafted in the first 3 rounds last year alone - CB rowe, DL Orchard, and OL Poutasi.  Then another guy in the 6th.

We had Clark and Funchess in the first 3 rounds.  Then Jake in the 4th.

Fast forward 1 year and we might not have anyone drafted in the first 4+ rounds - we are talking guys lilke Lyons or Bolden in the 5th round.  Maybe.  And Lyons wil be a UM football player for all of 6 months before he leaves.

Prior to 2015 in 4 prior years the only high draft picks we had were Lewan, Schofield, Mouton, and Martin.  And some 6th/7th rounders scrambled in there.

I think average UM fan is going off HS ranks for "we have way more talent".  I'd agree we have way more "talent" the day a HS recruit lands on campus.   I disagree we have way more 3 years into the program...unfortunately.  That's another thing that has to change.

While I hear what you're saying, but how else do you judge talent?  If it's not recruiting rankings, what is it?  Recruiting rankings are basically based off things like size and speed...potential.  So, if the coaching and player development sucks, but guys are 4-star recruits, how do you judge their talent?  I know I'm so sick of waiting for guys like Thomas, Pipkins, Morris, Green, RJS to produce and people saying they're talented because they had a good recruiting ranking.  But, lately with all the coaching changes, changes in scheme/style, MSU beating us on the field while we beat them in recruiting rankings, etc. its hard to know what's what any more.

Harbaugh will look to shove his Butt into the middle of the field.

It's forced humor like this that makes me appreciate Mgoblog's seemingly effortless snark.

I want Morris to win the competition because I know what Rudock can do so that would mean Morris outperformed him and is better so I know what to expect

Respectively disagree kind sir. Really hoping Rudock wins it. Much rather have a seasoned 5th year senior leading this team who has shown what he can do as a starter in the B10. Morris may be ready next year after some solid clean up duty, but man he looked awful last year, just not sure he has it......yet.

You should hope Gentry wins it because he is younger. Seriously though, Rudock has 2 years starting experience, this is invaluable and cannot be overcome by looking good in practice.

I cannot wait for this game. I'm making an account on Bovada with a friend and we are putting over $500 down on this game at Michigan +4.5

Pretty long I really enjoyed it wish they picked the game but oh well. I want Rudock to win over Morris who wasn't ready for primetime last year man did he suck but Gardner wasn't whole lot better either.

we started out with a cupcake at home before going off to UT!  It will be interesting to what Harbaugh run team can do against a good team like UT. If the team loses in a well played close loss I will not be upset. I'm hoping for a win though!
