OT: Vintage Verlander performance
Harbinger of things to come or fool's gold?
How about the under-qualified manager who sits there with a Wayne Fontes look on his face, while he lets this happen with a full bullpen.
Soria's been money most of the year. Rondon, not so much, and coming off of Tommy John. Why is he out there for more than two batters? Apparently we didn't want to use Alex Wilson for the 9th time this week. Or the other 4 guys down there for some damn reason.
It takes a while to give up 7 runs in an inning. It doesn't happen in 12 seconds. There is time in there to get another arm loose once you realize that your closer doesn't have it. Unless Ausmus didn't realize that Soria didn't have it...
EDIT: I scrolled through here again and saw your negs. It was not me.
Sure, he's the best we have. No question.
Tonight was the rare night where he didn't have it. What do you do then? Do you just sit there and watch the whole thing burn to the ground, when you have time to react? Because that's exactly what occurred tonight.
Really, it isn't hindsight. Dombrowski let Joba walk last year because...well, because Joba wasn't getting it done. Instead of doing something positive, like finding some BP help. Dombrowski waited around, and waited around, until one day while he waiting for his driver to open his car door he chanced to see Joba standing on the street corner hold a sign, "Will work for food." Dombrowski's prayers had been answered, he found himself a replacement BP arm.
Now I know Dumbrowski cut Joba loose yet again, but it's just evidence of how little credence Dumbrowski gives to bullpen ptiching.
The Twins have looked better with Molitor at the helm.
Right now I'd take a drunk Billy Martin over Ausmus.
Yeah Ausmus is no Jim Leyland, that's for sure.

JV should be on suicide watch after wasting his best start of the year.
Which isn't surprising as Dombrowski has never been shy about trading away prospects and arms for a quick short term fix.
And we're almost out of prospects.
We're the mid-90's Indians right now. In three years we're going to be the Phillies of right now.

I agree.
Get all the pitching we can before July 31, and get the bats in the offseason. The window may or may not be open next season. If we keep this up, we're in full rebuild mode come November.
Coupled with Dombrowski's new age bullpen = another Tiger loss.

They're starting to feed JD off-speed stuff. He's not going to hit a homer every other day until Halloween. Sooner or later this offense is going to sag without Miggy. That's when the shit is going to hit the fan.
When will Dombrowski learn that he needs to invest in a quality bullpen?
