Happy Friday POSBANG!!!

Submitted by East German Judge on

Happy Friday POSBANG!  The Summer Swarm has done a great job of creating a lot of buzz and annoying rival conferences.   JH is soon back and all is well and summer is almost here.

Might as well have Alison kick things off with her happy Friday dance.

Happy Friday! I have been on the road for a week now with my younger brother. We're doing a cross-country roadtrip, and we are currently camping on the Pacific Ocean in Washington. We have hit Glacier, the Idaho Panhandle, the North Cascades, Mt. Rainier, Olympic National Park, and now the Pacific Coast. Tomorrow we plan on driving down the Washington and Oregon coasts.

If you decide to come in from the cost on your way south, grab a beer in Portland. You could also hit Mt St Helens, Mt Hood, and Crater Lake if you wanted. Crater lake is unreal.

If you stay on the coast, hit Ft George Brewing (IPAs) in Astoria and de Garde brewing in Tillamook (sours). You can also see the Goonies House while in Astoria. I also recommend checking Manzanita / Neahkahnie beach or Canon Beach as you head through Oregon. Awesome tide pools around there if you're into that. Newport is also a great little beach town, and Florence has the sand dunes but not much else.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! Sounds awesome!

Happy Friday all! Heading to Minneapolis for the first time, any recommendations for a 50ish couple with no kids in tow would be appreciated.

is a no-brainer if you've never been there.  Not that malls are a good tourist attraction, but this one is.  Obviously it's friggin' huge, built around an amusement park in the center courtyard (no joke), and it has a lot of decent upscale stores.  We ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory which is downtown near the ballpark, and it's not five-star but was quite good.  The Gopher campus is downtown as well.

A Twins game or a St Paul Saints game are great ways to spend 3 hours outside (they are both out of town this weekend, not sure how long you are staying). Seeing a show at the Guthrie Theatre is also a great experience. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden (home of the famous cherry and spoon sculpture) is a good spot for visitors as well.

Otherwise, just wander around downtown Minneapolis if the weather is nice. Public transportation also makes it pretty easy to get around the entire metro area.

I woke up at 5 AM or so, then again at 6 AM, so it's been a bit of a slow start to Friday so far. Trying to down some coffee in an effort to fix that.

On the upside, I get to leave early today - my wife works at 3 PM, so I am leaving work at 2 PM to come home and watch the kids who are now out for the summer as of noon yesterday. Of course, because of the potential weather situation here, I am not sure how much of my weekend I will actually get so I need to make Friday afternoon and evening count somehow.

Regardless, I shall make it out to visit my father again at some point, who has begun physical therapy after his small stroke last weekend - they are changing up his Parkinson's medication (which they believe was not good enough for the level of issues he has had) and working on the weakness that developed in his legs post-incident on Saturday.

For the moment, however, it is sunny and muggy (normal for Michigan in June - I know Mark Richt disagrees) out the front windows here, so all is well.
