Q. What difference does it make?
A. It makes none.
but now you have gone, and you must be looking very old tonight.
Mope Rock rocks.
The term wouldn't exist but for current folks of a certain age. Everybody here has two choices. Grow old or die. Good luck with that.
In a morose sense, yes.

Smiths . . . Housemartins . . . Joy Division . . . throw in The Pogues, The The and Easterhouse's first album and it sounds like my senior year soundtrack.
The Smiths and Joy Division are both good choices. Also Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, Violator by Depeche Mode and I will go to Zooropa by U2 as well.
I do enjoy myself some Joy Division now and again.....
I love the Smiths and Joy Division, but when the going gets tough, its Billie Holiday for me:
Oh, and obviously REM too. Automatic for the People is timeless.
Saw them at the Royal Oak Music Theatre. Small venue, great band, doesn't get any better than that.

Just saw them (again) 10 days ago at St. Andrews Hall - 30th anniversary of Psychocandy. If you've ever been there, you know there's no better place in Michigan to see a band play live.
Haven't ever been, but going to see Noel Gallagher there at the end of the month. It's hard to imagine it being better than St. Andrews but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.
high school hours before and is a big Oasis fan.
Good for you! I'm interested to see what the crowd will be like... I'm in my mid 20's and never got to see Oasis perform live but grew to love the band, and now Noel's solo career as well. Both his albums are great. Plus, he's a fantastic quote and interview.
that my daughter learned to play electric guitar so she could play Oasis. I honestly think she got into UM this fall because her essay included this part of her life (you know that whole diversity of interest stuff). Anyway all she wanted for a graduating present was tickets for the show on the 31st. Literally walking across the stage to get her diploma and racing out to Royal Oak. I think there will be a real cross section of ages there. Saw Hozier there two months ago and it was all over the map, everyone having a good time.
When my daughter started playing electric guitar, I gave her a Cheap Trick guitar pick I got while attending a concert at The Second Chance (yeah I'm real old). She listened to some of their music and now wants to see them at DTE with Peter Frampton this summer. Wow. Didn't expect that.
She returns the favor for me by taking me to Lollapalooza so I can be hip ( I know I shouldn't use that word but wtf). FUnny part is that more old school acts are creeping into the lineup every year.
Kudos to all the young ones who explore music back in the days of vinyl. You guys rock!
That is truly awesome. I've been teaching myself for a couple years now on-and-off but I love playing their songs...Noel is just a great songwriter.
Great that you guys can share that music. Say hi if you're at the concert, I'll probably be camping out before with a Man City shirt on.
It seems to be a really good program. Man City eh? We like that other Manchester team ; ) But will definitely say "Hi" to any Man City jersey that night. She'll be main floor. I'll probably start at the bar in the balcony and work my way down.
here an article on Noel:
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2015/05/noel_gallagher_high_flying_…
Haha, yes, my choice of team was admittedly about 75% "The Gallaghers love them" and 25% "oh they're actually really good too" but I don't have a grudge with Utd fans so much... Just always hate Chelsea haha.
Cheers for the article. My copy of Riverman is supposed to come in the mail soon, hoping I can get an autograph or a handshake. I'll see ya there then!

Can't believe it made it this far without someone mentioning The Cure:
Tonight's the Night, Neil Young
Tears of Rage, Dylan
Who by Numbers
New York City Serenade
Now I will listen to Viva Hate five times in a row, just to feel alive.
At least Suedehead and Every Day is Like Sunday as few times, anyway.
Depending where everyone is, MOZ is hitting quite a few places around the midwest.
Akron, Cincy, Chicago, Detroit, Minn., Bloomington, IL
...until he gets sick and cancels the show. He's done it to Flint like three tours in a row.
story I think it was Detroit or Flint where they spelled his name wrong on building and he just told the tour bus driver to keep driving.
He hasn't been in good health for a while. He has or had cancer of some sort. Not many details about it.
First thing is first and that's RUSH in STL Thursday night!!
The Flint stop was canceled 4 times during his last tour.
Nothing beats a depressing a country song by Hank Williams and my fav Patsy Cline.
Ryan Adams and Wilco.
While I love his music, Moz really lost me in the wake of cancelling his Michigan show 4 times during his last swing. Marr, on the other hand, put on an excellent show around the same time.
The one thing I wouldn't do if I was down was listen to shitty music.
Title on topic, movie likely not, but still... Love this poster.
I don't know man... if the reports are true, hard to feel bad for a guy who skips his finals.
Some of Blue October can enhance a melancholy mood. Bleed Out is a harsh fuck you song.
are one of the few bands from the 80s that i actually do like, including joy division, and a little of the cure, and a couple other bands i'm forgetting.
favourite songs: hand that rocks the cradle, heaven knows, reel around the fountain, plz plz, headmaster ritual, i want the one i can't have, all of their songs, etc..
william, it was really nothing still absolutely amaizes me with how expertly arranged and crafted it is, musically. and such a short song, too!
Johnny Marr foreverrrr
joy division is up there, sun kill moon even though i don't particularly like his stuff, radiohead for sure, the antlers - hospice, Sparklehorse (RIP) is a real killer, and, the guy who should probably be at the top of this list, Elliot Smith (RIP)
