OT: 49ers trying to erase all things Harbaugh?

Submitted by UMChick77 on

Found this interesting piece of news just a bit ago. I didn't see it posted yet so here you go. Apparently Jim's trademark khakis are gone and a plaque is covered.

I thought those guys were stupid but this is a new kind of dumb. Best seasons they had in years under Harbaugh and they want to forget it? You can't try this hard at being stupid...it must be engrained.

Do you think he's really going to be allowed to remain on the team after getting a drunk and disorderly while on probation for a DUI?!?

He's gone, and this is a positive for us.

Why so bashful? Someone should post this in all its glory right now. We need to force Dantonio's hand in this.

I am going to boldly predict that there will be a "49ers Open Thread" created at least for the first several games with the sole purpose being to laugh at them if/when they lose.

while I love SF for the gift of Harbaugh (I think he's made it clear that he'd still be there if not for them wanting him gone) I will admit what I've only heard a few other UM fans admit: The hire is not a sure thing. Before the hire I wanted him as much as anyone but when it got REALLY crazy around here I posed the notion/possibility of what would we do if after year 4 we're no more than a Wisconsin type team? Not bad by any means but still 2nd, 3rd or 4th fiddle in the conference? Heck, say year 5? The fact is that we expect NC caliber teams under this man by that time period. What if it doesn't happen? What happens to cause the first booing of Harbaugh (it will eventually happen) & what will be the cause of it? I'm beyond delighted to have him but I refuse to overlook the fact that he does rub some people wrong. He does. York is a moron & that's on him but there is a life of people that really don't like the guy. Plus, I don't care what he or anyone says about the NFL as I don't think he wants to be Bo as much as resurrect Michigan and go back to the NFL. Given the hypothetical situation above, it might not be long & the guy we all wanted was had & it didn't work out. This fan base would go apeshit with fear, doubt & self reflection. I don't know what I worry about more: Hypothetically being above average under Harbaugh while he has & wants to retain long term "Bo authority" or it not working out with the one man it has to work out with? My wish is long term "Bo authority" with great teams (obviously) but the way CFB is geared now, the rebuilding he needs to do, possible NFL envy & the fact that he does not get along with everyone does leave the possibility that this isn't a sure thing. Nobody I'd rather have as HC for the last decade......and that scares me a little lol. /careful what you wish for, etc

Well, that's possible, but there's no reason to believe he will be bad at this point. We're talking about a guy who went to the NFC Championship game his first three years at an NFL coach.

We may not ever be as good as Alabama, but I'd be happy with challenging for the B10 title every year and making a run at a natty every 4-5 years. Obviously with our national clout, the ceiling is much higher than Wisconsin.

Michigan will always attract top talent, and I'm pretty comfortable predicting this coaching staff is on par with Urban and superior to those of the rest of the conference. and it certainly appears that winning the Big 10 championship will get even a 1-loss team into the playoff. So basically success comes down to beating OSU. I'll take 2 out of every three matchups until Harbaugh goes back to the NFL (or in perpetuity should he stay until retirement),

first I want to thank you for getting my general point and not attacking me lol. I mean that! I expected to get crushed by people taking it too seriously or not getting my point that was largely in jest. ~~~~~~~To reply: I totally LOVE having him. I'm barely 30 (I'm a man, Dammit! ha) & truly had him as my "dream hire" before Carr retired! Truly. I'm sports superstitious so I won't say it's "impossib...." that things will go bad/average after 4-5 years but we'll see. I actually think we'll need two years of retooling where we'll be better visually & in record before we really see MICHIGAN again. We have JMFH, ffs! Haha. No offense to Hoke but we have a HC rather than a cheerleader figurehead. That alone is good for a game a year, IMO. The staff, Michigan recruiting itself when we have so much as an above .500 record, etc. I feel great. ~~~~~~~Trust me, guys. I'm just saying that he does rub some the wrong way but it's in a way I like! I loved "what's your deal" & the Schwartz handshake! I also say he's an ultra competitive dick but he's OUR ultra competitive dick so that made me genuinely laugh to read! ha. I just hope he truly wants to spend a decade+ here with the fire he's always had. I don't want him to think he has to "wear soft gloves" in fear of offending/insulting the history/mythology that is Michigan Football.~~~~~~I hope he has the kind of clout that Bo had where if you undermine him...the program....YOU'RE GONE! Basically the clout Bo had in the program - it was his & when it came to football it was join me or GTFO. I want & kind of think we need that. We need Jim to have that, IMO. I think he will. ~~~~~ Finally, as for "fear" it's just the fear of finally getting what you want lol. If this somehow didn't work out? I got my guy as HC at UM and it didn't work?!? Where do I go then? The desert! I just think I'm so giddy, elated & still in a bit of disbelief that all of the positives I KNOW are true about JMFH I'm starting to try to poke holes in so I'm not in a vegetative state if/when he leaves, success or no success. Nothing sucks more than getting what you want & it's not what you thought it'd be. Yet, deep down I think it will be. Superstitious so I wont say "kn-w" but I strongly think it's going to be great. ~~~~~~PS: I do truly think he'll go back to the NFL one day. You can tell when he speaks that he really likes being around professionals & he had no desire to balk on his contract if SF didn't give us such a gift in the idiot, spoiled manchild that is York. The way he spoke about SF, the players, disloyal assistants, etc in that Kawasaki interview sounded like a man happy to be in AA but wouldn't have left SF to come if he wasn't fired. Ann Arbor beat out the NFL once he knew he was going to be told he was gone. If SF had a decent front office, he'd still be there, IMO. Our HC would likely be......?

first of all, who gives a shit?

second of all, why should there be a plaque and mannequin for a departed head coach in the team museum anyway? That makes no sense.

in what universe do you think Jim Harbaugh's 49ers tenure is comparable to Bo's here? Bo coached here for 20 years and is the winningest coach in program history. He's revered in this community.

You guys act like Jim Harbaugh's tenure was the best thing to ever happen to football in San Francisco... there's these dudes named Bill Walsh and George Seifert you might wanna Google.

Not surprising. Getting rid of Harbaugh was one of the dumbest business decisions in the sports arena in a while. And then after seeing that embarrassing interview with the new coach a while back....well, you pretty much have to question every decision coming out of that owner's office.

Back in the late 70s, when Joe Thomas took over as GM of the 49ers, he made the decision to destroy the entire archives of the 49er history, including all game films.  He said it was to start a new era in 49 football.  What an idiotic move.... history is repeating itself there.

As an archivist, your story about destroying records like that makes me very butt hurt. I understand that knowledge is power along with a GM's desire for organizational control, but Thomas sounds like a short-sighted nut.

He was.  He once demanded a police escort to the game because he said that his life was in danger.  The guy was a serious nutjob.

As a result of him, the only 49er footage that exists from the 50s and 60s is from other team's archives.
