Michigan Spring Game will now be on April 4th at Noon
Read as: BTN pulls rug out from underneath the Lacrosse team.
Was originally set for April 11th with Battle at The Big House IV against Ohio State to take place afterwards. Now there will be no Lax, and the team loses out on exposure they'd get what with having the leftover fans from the Spring Game.
A shame. This year's team is gonna be VERY interesting. Last year was good for being a 3rd year team.
Not only does Lax get the screwjob from BTN, but us in attendance at the spring game will freeze our asses off. Last year was extremely cold and they're playing it the same weekend as last year.
Lacrosse game is the next day at The Big House against Rutgers.

This is the earliest date EVER that a Spring game will be held here.
The latest date was on 5/20/1950. The Blue team beat the White team, 50-0.
May 20th for a spring game. Why the don't do that across the board, is beyond me.

Michigan's early finish for academics is great for a lot of things, but not for scheduling of a spring game. It is generally way too early and too cold to enjoy going out for a team scrimmage. Maybe some of you UP guys don't mind, but attendance and temperature seem to be directly related to each other.

Ok, it's at most 2 weekends earlier than it has been traditional. I've been to spring games across the midwest where you can have 70 degrees in the first week of April and snow in the 3rd week... It's a crap shoot.
Regarding a real scrimmage ... unless there is some compelling statistic about a team's success being directly linked to full contact in the spring game I would not worry about it and just go and enjoy it. Typically teams do all of their harder stuff prior to the spring game away from the public eye anyway.
Regarding the earlier date it gives players a couple of extra weeks to heal as well if injured.
Maybe Coach will give our boys an Easter Egg drop : )

Will this change allow for enough TV coverage of stretching and special team drills?

How about Ford Field? Agree with the poster above. Enough of 40 degree spring games.

I dont get why we do this so early - same date as a team in LA? I understand the class schedule and all but all the teams in the Big 10 seems to do it 2-3 weeks after us. Are we that different in our academic schedule?

So Harbaugh's first public display of his new team will be on 4/4. I love the marketing.

ESPNU announced its lacrosse schedule earlier today, and they had the Michigan-Ohio State game set to be televised on Sunday, April 12. It is probably not a coincidence that the lacrosse game was moved from Saturday to Sunday on the same day that the football game was moved back a week.
So--and this is just idle speculation--I wonder if this was the sequence of events: (1) ESPNU tells Michigan they want to show the M-OSU lacrosse game that weekend, but they don't have a time slot on Saturday to show the game, (2) Michigan agrees to move the lacrosse game to Sunday to get the national exposure, (3) Since Michigan has lost the "anchor" for having the football spring game on Saturday, April 11, they realize they can have it any day they want, (4) Harbaugh is asked his opinion, and he wants to start spring practice a week earlier than originally planned, which necessitates moving the spring "game" back a week as well.

I'm geeked about the spring game, especially if it is some sort of game. The sneak peak will be a potentially great thing to see.
Please don't be 34 degrees and raining because fucking Michigan.
