Fire Harbaugh. Fold the program! Someone from washington State decided he doesn't want to come here. How will we manage?

I don't think that is weird. He could be a backup, and good luck flipping him as a backup if he does not visit

without an offer. No disputes that.
This isn't a normal recruiting season. It's a scramble. More kids are being brought in than there are spots available. Coaching staffs will always have a pecking order for recruits. It can't be reflected by the order of these visits, as they're being squeezed in when they can.

If that is the case then there is no way UM takes the blame for it...but it would make sense that word getting out like this might have put his WSU schollie offer at risk and put the kid in a tough spot (esp. if the UM offer was contigent on some other factors).
But speculation will rule to day with social media and the ever turning rumor mill.

Chill out. This is social media at it's best, people wanting to be the first to break news.

Yup, I'm quite sure of it now...due to all the dancing in the streets and painting of the town... someone definitely forgot to cancel Michigan's subscription to Monkey Rodeo Weekly after Harbaugh actually signed on.
Must be on auto-renew...that's how they get you. That freaking auto-renew. *SMH*

The only way this reflects poorly on Michigan is if he was offered what the coaches considered a non-comittable offer without telling him it was contingent on others.
That happened to my brother, who had a scholarship to GVSU and Brian Kelly pulled as he was ready to fax his NLI. He literally called to confirm the fax number and Kelly told him they filled up on linemen. He had another option that ended up working out pretty well for him, but fuck Kelly and any other coach who would do something similar. How hard is it to get on the phone and not leave the kid with just his dick in his hands?
An offer is an offer. Communicate. Either he has an offer or he will get one if contingency X occurs. But let the kid know.

In this particular case, with this specific recruit, we just don't know the facts. We can speculate, but that's all it is.
Nevertheless, in general, it is imperative that our staff adequately and accurately communicate with these kids. Personally, I think that all offers should be commitable. Otherwise don't make an offer that MIGHT be commitable. Wait until it becomes commitable before extending an offer. Yet, IF our new staff will be extending contigency offers, then it is up to them to make sure that the 18 year old young man with whom they're dealing understands that.

This seems like a clear case of cold feet. It was a good visit, got caught up in the moment, made an emotional decision, thought about it on the 4 hr flight back to LA, came to his senses, found out word got out, and was scrambling to get out the situation anyway he can. I don't think this has anything to do with coaches, non-commitable offer, etc.
Every guy has been in this type of situation in their life when they meet a new girl who was way more interested in you. Initially thought she was better looking for whatever reason, maybe the dark lighting or the boos. Next day, your trying to get out of the situation without looking like a prick. Sorry to say, maybe UM was that girl to our valuable 3* recruit.
I'm new here and you guys may come down on me for this. I know we are scrambling and to a certain degree, have to fill the class. However, people are getting way too worked up on not getting this parade of last minute 3* guys who would probably never get the time of day from this coaching staff if they were 2016 recruits. Missing out on Marshall, Weber, Clark would hurt. But, I don't know about some of these others.

If that was the case, Burnett would of been contacted and offered 3 weeks ago during Jimmy's plane fight into Detroit for his introductory press conference.
I agree that star ratings are partly subjective and not the be all, end all. And the NFL draft is a perfect example of many guys who never got the love they may of deserved from all the recruiting experts. However, it is one of the better tools we have, just like grades in school in terms of measuring future success. Ultimately, Burnett and his family needs to be absolutely comfortable with his decision. I hope he is one of those guys that beats the odds and you'll hear about in one the future NFL drafts.

So we flew this kid across the country in the middle of the winter for a non commitable offer? That's an even bigger dick move and I doubt it happened.
I think this kid just had a change of heart on the flight home and wanted to stay closer to home. This stuff happens all the time. One thing is our media needs to back off a little bit, they are to eager to pounce and report things without getting a backup source.

"...our media needs to back off a little bit, they are to eager to pounce and report things without getting a backup source."
Huh, nice suggestion. WAIT -- can't that be said for the ENTIRE news industry over the last, oh, ever since electricity was invented? Rush to be first. (Remember when CBS rushed to report that some muslims were arised in Texas the day of or day after the OKC bomb blast,, when it turned out to be entirely untrue.)
