I, for one, expected Jim Boccher to be named special teams coach.

Welcome Coach Baxter.

What does "OOftOO" mean?
January 16th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
The 1st sentence;
repeat if necessary.
January 16th, 2015 at 2:10 PM ^
You mean you expect me to actually fully read a post before responding to it?
January 16th, 2015 at 2:32 PM ^
totally unreasonable expectation.
January 16th, 2015 at 5:27 PM ^
.......OP?
January 16th, 2015 at 1:28 PM ^
Shouldn't OOftOO be OOftOoO?
/ my contribution to the discourse.
January 16th, 2015 at 1:29 PM ^
Whenever we don't get a block on special teams next year, I'm going to yell "The bad man punted, Baxter!"
January 16th, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
This is kind of a big deal, eh Magnus?
January 16th, 2015 at 1:30 PM ^

God that is atrocious.
Back to Baxter - Great form on the punt!
January 16th, 2015 at 1:37 PM ^
There should be a punt block or a return on every punt. Anything less is unacceptable. I'll be keeping my pitchfork next to my couch.
January 16th, 2015 at 1:39 PM ^
On gameday, I hope Baxter is assigned a math-specialized GA who can accurately and reliably count to 11. :-)
January 16th, 2015 at 1:41 PM ^
We won't be punting!
January 16th, 2015 at 1:44 PM ^
when was the last time anyone can remember Michigan having a great season of special teams play? I remember Breaston being outstanding on the return game but besides that I can not think of a season when the special teams really stood out.
And I am elated to have Baxter in charge of the ST. GO BLUE!

I recall that Lloyd Carr had a couple of years where he seemed to figure out punt blocking to the point that his teams were seemingly blocking a punt every other game. But yeah, it will be nice to have a dedicated expert paying attention to roughly one third of the game.
January 16th, 2015 at 2:13 PM ^
We had no offense that year outside of Marquise Walker. But our punt-block team (which often featured Walker) was fantastic.

also helps when you have really athletic kids on all kicking squads. scheme only goes so far. as weve seen with norfleet, all the creases in the world dont matter if doesnt have the speed to house it

This is a 50% yes, 50% no answer, but under RichRod Michigan did have at least one punt return for TD (Odoms vs Purdue) and one KO return for TD (Stonum vs ND). I also remember the return yards being above average. They also had a few blocked punts (Graham had at least two in the same season). Then again, there were also countless muffed punts and missed field goals. So yeah.

Seth didn't have a great year, but despite being a walk-on he performed significantly better than scholarship kicker Gibbons. The placekicking wasn't really the problem that year, so I don't remember being upset about anything that happened with kicking, but I decided to take a more Hoke-ian approach to criticism of individual players.

ESPN announcers discuss how Coach John Baxter and Academic Gameplan were used to take Fresno State Football from one of the worst to one of the best in regards to academic performance.

Long time lurker. I've been an MGoBlog obsessee since the 2011 coaching search, but it is about time that I join the community officially.
I absolutely love this hire. For the recruits and families who ACTUALLY value academics, who's got it better than John Baxter?
NOOOOOOOBODY!!

Dude tweets with lots of exclamation points and almost reads like Doge.

The president must love this hire!
