what are you tryin to say here?
but could you imagine if a fan threw a banana onto the court at a player during an nba game? shit can get bad here, but that's on a different level.
Edit: since many people here don't follow soccer, i'm talking about a fan throwing a banana at barcelona player dani alves while he was setting up to take a corner kick.

Southern Europe is pretty bad as well. Banana-throwing seems to happen a few times a year in the Spanish and Italian leagues. One issue, I think, is that there aren't many black players from those countries, so black players are regarded as foreign in addition to having different skin color (and xenophobia is always strong in Europe). Maybe this will change as you see guys like Balotelli coming through the ranks.
England and France used to also have a lot of overt racism, but it's declined in recent years, accompanied by an increase in black players playing on their national teams. (Not that there isn't a lot of covert racism, still.)

he picked it up and ate it. Much classier than the violent rampage into the stands I probably would have gone with, were I ever to encounter such ignorance. A better man than I.
The NCAA would have probably considered it an impermissible benefit.

Yeah I saw that too. I had to laugh at Alves' reaction. He picked up the banana, peeled it, then took a bite out of it. That level of racism in Europe is absolutely ridiculous though.
This only began to float around Twitter today - regardless of when this was taken, it would be nice if someone would tear down Sterling and put up a real human being, in my opinion.
i failed to put a "one" in there...
...but slave owners basically had "girlfriends" that were black. Didn't mean they weren't racist or that they didn't foster discrimination.
I'm not saying you said that or even IMPLIED that. But I've heard that as an excuse to defend Sterling. That and "well his labor force is primarily black." Again, a slave owners work force was 100% black the majority of the time, and some were treated "well" in comparison to the others --- it doesn't mean it was right/wasn't racist/etc.
The fact that his goldigging hoe of a girlfriend was black doesn't do anything for me any more than the fact that he's the owner of a NBA franchise which is primarily made up of black millionaires.
...I'm sure this thread will be locked soon, but just a thought and wanted to point out a few things.
I'm no lawyer, but I don't see a way where he doesn't get the money from selling the team.
I think it's going to be tough enough to even get to the point where they can force him to sell his team, he's known to sue and I'm sure he'll have it in court for years if he can.
Obviously, I don't want him to get a dime...but I just don't see how he doesn't at least get market value for the Clippers - which I'm sure at this point many would take to get him out of the league.
But I don't think for a second he's not going to still be a billionaire when this is over. He's got his own troubles with his wife and little miss missy who's clearly pissed off that she was cut off and getting back at him. Even though she (the GF) is about to be in some hot water (legally) I presume because she taped him without him knowing. I believe in California that is against the law, especially since he committed no crime...just showed his ignorant racist, awful views.
And it's clearly not even a phone conversation because she gets him juice, you hear her pour it and set it on the table, and he thanks her for it before they argue some more. So she's in the room knowingly taping and baiting him with the conversation to get more from him.
Unfortunately, this seems like a story that is going to last for a LONG time - which sucks, because this is the best NBA playoffs in years. I'm not even a die hard NBA fan and I've enjoyed a lot of thise (mainly Western Conference) games.
with his nephew back in the '80's. sterling was, shall we say, 'unique' back then too. and how creepy is it that he's dating some woman that's got to be 40+ years his junior, and they are talking about her schtooping other guys. he deserves the shame and scorn coming his way.
April 27th, 2014 at 11:50 PM ^
"and they are talking about her schtooping other guys"
Assuming I know what schtooping means, I believe that comment was taken out of context. If you listen to the audio, I believe he was saying in her life, she could do whatever she wants (including schtooping other guys), but not necessarily while dating him. Not that I am sticking up for him, but I believe that is what he meant.
It sounded to me like he didn't care if she wasn't doing her side thing.
But I'm not going to try to put that weird conversation in to ANY kind of context. They both sound crazy as hell.
When I heard it the first day, I was obviously disgusted, but I also thought both of them sounded like they were on drugs. Sterling sounded like mentally, he was having some issues...he couldn't even put his racist thoughts together. It was weird.
Today when I heard the additional tape I found the comments even more disturbing, especially when I heard that there was someone else clearly in the house and leaving and that it wasn't a phone call and they were in the same room with one another.
Doesn't excuse ANYTHING...but yea, he sounded high off something or like he has literally lost it (which he has, but you know what I mean).
Regardless, that's one conversation I'm not going to try to put into context, but I, too, thought he was saying "you can have sex with them (black people)."
In a weird, f-ed up relationship like this...40+ years apart, I'm not sure either of them is worried about monogomy. Same with Hef.

They've got him by the balls...
April 27th, 2014 at 11:00 PM ^
See: Hugh Hefner
Don't see: Tiger Woods
...who called Donald to give him the "heads up." That guy (or girl) is just as racist as he is.
Who called and was like "uh, hey Don, your black girlfriend is bringing her black friends to your games again and posting pictures with them on the instragrams...we don't allow that Don."
I can't imagine how that conversation actually took place, but I'm sure it was just as disgusting.
I hate that no one is talking about this apparant "rich society" that share these views that Sterling is clearly trying to fit in with. Going off his comments alone, he's clearly trying to be part of some crowd and it's not just him that thinks/lives this way, there are others...who are the others? Friends? Family? Other NBA owners?
Who called and told Sterling in the first place?
There's one in every crowd.

....?
Someone's having some fun in this thread

Cosign. She apparently fancies herself a philanthropist, a business owner, a model, and a variety of other things. Delusions of grandeur courtesy of the money she's getting in return for screwing an old rich guy.
April 27th, 2014 at 11:08 PM ^
I think he can sue her (and win). It's gross, but she taped him without him knowing. What he did/said/believes is awful, racist, and should end his ownership in the NBA...but I believe she broke the law and he can sue the shit out of her if he wants.
The wife is suiing her too trying to get all of the shit he gave her back. She claims the girlfriend uses different names and goes around targetting old rich guys (this suit was filed well before the comments came to light).

to tape a conversation that you are part of, without disclosing the taping. don't remember the Cal law on that, but think that is okay too. would not be a violation of Mich law.
But I did read that in California, all parties have to be aware.
Granted it wasn't a credible source, but I read it on the internet. Thus, it is true.
April 27th, 2014 at 10:01 PM ^
but this whole episode makes it all that much worse. What a fucking sham.
Is the NBA going to "force" an owner to sell the team! I don't like that idea, as Sterling will just go to court and file an anti-trust lawsuit and win treble damages. Perhaps the best thing would be for fans to boycott/walk out of Clipper games, boycott Clipper merchandise and for advertisers to hit the bricks re: Clippers?
April 27th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
From what I've read, forcing an owner to sell only happens when they can't really pay their bills. IDK, maybe he gets the Steinbrenner treatment?
I agree voting with dollars is probably the best way to do this but I'd think the money from TV deals is probably enough to make that not matter.
Besides, with the attention span of this country, we'll be off to anothr controvesy pretty soon.
