Reminder: Michigan Football Won the National Title

I don't think this gets talked about enough.  Just a reminder, your 2023 Michigan Wolverines won the CFB National Title. Last year of the 4 team playoff and college football having some semblance of amateur athletics - and it was Michigan again, Michigan.  What a way to end an era.

Best team all year, best team in the B1G the past 3 years.  3 in a row against OSU, each game with huge stakes, each year with the stakes going higher.  No UM-OSU game will ever match the stakes of last year unless (with all their crying and attempts to invalidate UMs dominance) and until they meet in a National Title game, nothing will cleanse them of those losses.  Nothing OSU ever does will match the misery UM put on them the past 3 years....beating them at their best - all that talent and they have nothing to show for it.

And for all the analysts thinking UM takes a huge step back next year, be careful.  Top 3 defense returns, best D-line in the country, amazing back 7 and the running game will still Smash.

But no matter what happens going forward with UM football, I go to the grave with a smile on my face, from the last 3 years and the culmination with the ultimate National Title Glory.

“Not sure it actually happened” is still where I find myself. I bought *way* too many shirts after the game and still get confused when I see myself in the mirror.

It’s always the same reaction. I’m thinking about work or taxes or something dumb and then I see a backwards-written “National Champions” and I’m pleasantly jolted out of my thought process.

I’ll never forget how glum the Michigan fans were during halftime of the National Championship game when the momentum seemed to be against us and how discouraged we all were in the third quarter. But the defense never yielded and the offense rose to the occasion, What a glorious moment when the confetti began to fall. And when I think about it, I still get goosebumps. Thanks for the reminder, OP.

My children - who are juniors at Michigan - have had three exceptional years of football and the associated spirit on campus.

We always welcome former athletes at our tailgates - and Teams 142, 143, and 144 will have a very special place in our hearts.

Go Blue.

It was a truly great season.  And it was especially great because of everything that went into getting there - over the course of 3 seasons, on the field and especially off.  Beating Ohio State in 2021 was magical, beating them again in 2022 was validating.  What really stands out about this season on the field are 3 things:

  1. 32 (or whatever the actual number is) straight runs against Penn State
  2. Coming through the one time their backs were truly against the wall against Alabama
  3. Completely shutting down Michael Penix and Washington's offense in the championship game

I can't imagine another Michigan team topping this one, because of the 3-year path to the championship and all the off the field stuff.  But I can imagine teams under Sherrone Moore being right up there with this year's champions --  with most, if not all, of the drama on the field:

  1. Conference realignment makes for a tougher schedule for the foreseeable future -- so there are more opportunities for more meaningful wins.
  2. A 12 team playoff means that sometimes losses can be learning experiences, so we'll have more opportunities to see how the team rebounds from on field adversity.
  3. Depending on some strategic coaching coaches, we might see a Michigan offense that utilizes more of the tools in its toolbox and comes closer to playing up to its potential. So hopefully the final scores of the team's most meaningful games might  better reflect their dominance on the field.

Not to mention sending Saban to retirement in the greatest Michigan game I'll ever see. It was perfect. The uniforms, the setting, the FUCKING ROSE BOWL, the overtime, the "SPINS AND SCORES, CORUM PUTS MICHIGAN ON TOP IN OVERTIME!" call, the 4th down stop, the list goes on and on. Hands down my favorite game ever. I've rewatched it close to 1000 times already.

ITS GREAT
