OT: Multiple Choice Poll: Your Hopes For The 2024 Chargers.

Submitted by KansasBlue on February 13th, 2024 at 12:08 PM

What kind of season are you hoping for when it comes to the 2024 Chargers and why?  Do you even care at all?  Just curious how others in this community feel about this....I'm not sure where I am yet and may not know until the season actually starts.  Yes, Harbaugh will ultimately be judged on the totality of his time coaching the team, but for this specific post I'm only focused on what you want to happen this next season.

1. The team actually gets worse.

2. Same underachieving group, same results.

3. Marked improvement, make the playoffs.

4.  Unbelievable turnaround, deep playoff run.

5.  Miracle season, Super Bowl champs.

6. Don't care.  Yes, I actually mean I will not follow how the Chargers perform and even if someone told me it wouldn't matter to me.

4 and eventually 5.  Jimmy was my QB first 2 years in Ann Arbor and have been a fan ever since.  As long as they are rockin' the baby blues like Bambi Allworth I'm in.  Just don't beat the Lions to do it.

5 unless they are playing the Lions in the Super Bowl. The Chargers having success is a good thing for Michigan from a recruiting standpoint because top talent will crave exposure to winning schemes that work in college and the NFL, and will be attracted to the connections that Michigan has with the best NFL teams. I hope Seattle and Baltimore are at the top of the NFL, too, for the same reason.

Jim Harbaugh will forever be among the greatest Wolverines of all time and we as fans should be eternally grateful for everything he did for Michigan, but... I don't particularly care what happens with the Chargers. I'm not going to start rooting for them just because they're coached by Jim Harbaugh.

I don’t follow former Michigan players or coaches,  after they leave Ann Arbor and move on with their lives. However, I follow the current team and recruiting very closely.  Tom Brady was the lone exception.

I really don't care. I don't wish ill on their season, but I don't care if they go out and win it all, either. The Chargers aren't my team. Jim Harbaugh isn't my coach anymore. I'm grateful for what he did at Michigan and he will always be welcome back with open arms should he attend any future events, but he's on to other things. And so is Michigan.

People in Los Angeles don't care about the Chargers, so why should I?

All I'd tell him is good luck with the AFC West, pal. Mahomes isn't going anywhere, and as long as he doesn't suffer any devastating injuries, he's in the prime of his career for at least another five to seven years. He's still only 28 years old.

Harbaugh found a way to beat OSU three years in a row so he has all the reason to be confident in betting on himself to find a way to beat Mahomes. But now you're dealing with the greatest (active) player on the planet. Going to be extremely tough to win that division in any given year, as long as Mahomes is around and healthy.

Mahomes is great, but I wouldn't anoint him GOAT-in-waiting just yet. The Niners would have won that Super Bowl if it wasn't for some staggeringly idiotic coaching breakdowns (e.g., Steve Wilks deciding to channel Don Brown on the Chiefs' game-winning OT drive, Shanahan not bothering to prep his players for the possibility of an OT game, etc).

Rings are rings, friend.

He's got a long way to go to catch up to Brady, but he's got more now than P. Manning, more than Rothlisberger, Brees, Elway, Rodgers, and others that many of us consider to be part of the pantheon of all-time greats. If he can play another ten years, which is certainly possible as long as he doesn't consistently get hurt, he could challenge Brady for that title.

That said, I'll be curious how his play evolves, because while he's still in his prime, others around him are certainly getting older. There's talk of Andy Reid maybe retiring in the not so distant future, Travis Kelce is 34 and while he's still great, who knows how much longer he has before his age starts to catch up with him. 34 is ancient in the NFL, and his brother just retired too.

Big ol 6.

I stopped following the NFL 15 years ago and see no reason to start again.

On top of that, keeping up with Michigan already takes more spare energy than I have.

I say #4. They will get a jolt under Harbaugh and go deep into the playoffs. Hopefully they can do American a favor and knock off the Chiefs. I won't be following every moment of the Chargers season but I will at least be paying attention.

Count me as a “six”.

I’ll wish Harbaugh and the staff that joined the NFL well.  I wish success for all that have ever been active at Michigan - both athletics and academics.

Will I watch and follow the Chargers next year?   I don’t think so - or really care how the Chargers season turns out.  I will, however, hold on to my Michigan season tickets and follow the Maize & Blue.

Whatever is best for Michigan,  Probably means somewhere between 3 & 5, if not playing the Lions.  Will always appreciate what Coach Harbaugh achieved at Michigan, and root for him.

5, unless the Lions are in the way. I'm not going to follow them closely--I don't really watch the NFL--but I'm appreciative to Harbaugh and want to see him continue to succeed. I was pulling for the Ravens this post-season as well, out of appreciation to John and the role he played in our success.

I wish our staff had stayed more intact, but I'm not going to get upset with a coach for assembling the staff he feels is best.

I'm rooting for Jim's success.  I don't want him to win the superbowl because I want the Lions to win the superbowl.  But I'm not mad at him and don't hold any grudges.  He's giving people a choice to move to the NFL, not trying to hurt Michigan.

Let's give Moore a chance and see what the new staff does.  I'm excited for a new era of Michigan football.

3. Realistic. I hope they rapidly improve and Coach gets a Super Bowl victory within three years since further validation of his influence/ability destroys investigative narratives staining the program here. Better he does, the worse Ryan Day looks. That makes me smile.

#2.

Is it selfish?  Yes.

Do I want Harbaugh's greatest coaching achievement to be winning the CFP at Michigan yep?

Do I care the above two statements are rotten?  HELL NO.

Love Jim Harbaugh, he was the first player I liked, I will always smile when I think of him and what he did at UM as a player and a coach. That being said, I’m a Bengals fan, fuck the Chargers and every other team in the AFC.

I’ll go 2.5 … can easily improve and NOT make the playoffs … team with 4 more wins last season did not. Indy. They will definitely improve but fairly tough schedule and weak home field. I will say borderline playoffs but just short. Seems most likely scenario. If they do … maybe a road wild card game in Baltimore?

Deep playoff run.  I want coach to at least justify all this for something.   It would feel so bad if he did awful for two years and got shit canned. It really would.
