Good thing Martelli coached today, he made such a remarkable difference in team performance. Howard either has to go at the end of the season or he gets rid of everyone except for Eisley.

4th phase

I drew my line in the sand as he has until Dug and Reed leave. I did the same exact thing with Harbaugh after 2020. I said the line in the sand is he has to beat OSU before JJ graduates. But man I did not expect them to be this bad year. Of course they weren't going to be a final 4 team. But a "just on the right side of the bubble team" and going like 12-8 in conference play seemed doable.

I've been saying for awhile he needs a staff shakeup. Just like Harbaugh got rid of Drevno, Pep, and Don Brown. Juwan needs a complete staff overhaul. He needs to find a "yaklich type" who is a young brilliant mind. Find another young, hungry coach who will work his ass off. The fact that Martelli and Eisley were HC candidates 2 years ago but aren't anymore speaks volumes. It's time to move on.

The longer he is removed from Beilein players, the more glaring it is that he isn't suited to be a high major HC.

Many write off the 2020 COVID season for football (and rightfully so)...but that was also Howard's most successful Michigan team, by far. Every other team has been barely .500 in league play and the last three (this season included) have been barely .500 (or worse!) in the non-conference, with a litany of embarrassing losses.

Barring some kind of miracle turnaround, the Howard Era should end come their Wednesday loss in the B1G Tournament.

I hate these long reviews.  It's pretty clear that PSU's defender knocked the ball away.  Just accept it an move on; UM isn't winning or losing this game based on this play.

I will admit - I was wrong about Williams.  He's limited physically but he's made a big jump this year offensively.  On a better team he'd be an asset as a shooter and a secondary rebounder.

The shooting, though, has gone from 25% from 3 last year to 45% this year.  He's playing more minutes but his offensive rating went from 102 to 124, which is legitimately good.  It would be one thing if he was just a volume shooter but he's not, and that's the difference between this year and last.  It's real improvement by him.

What's annoying is Michigan blew 2-3 FTs minutes ago that would be really nice now.  Instead of it being a 5-point game it would be a 2-point one.  And that's not really on the coaches - that's guys like Dug and Tschetter just hitting easy shots.

As a Michigander (who played and really knows hockey) the title really threw me off. The Palestra is/was a legendary hockey arena in Upper Michigan, and the first arena in the world built specifically for hockey. It hasn’t existed since the 70s, and I’m not remotely a basketball fan, so… took me a moment.

tempted to watch the lady hoosiers in order to watch a game called basketball today.  confounding lack of performance on the men's side (and it seems to be MI and several other teams...).

Somebody needs to do something.

Howard has the worst offense sets in the big ten . No back door cuts or lobs , no coming off double stagger screens or back screens ! Our players don’t even know how to use a screen properly .

This is so discouraging. We have no basketball sense. 18 turnovers on careless and sloppy play. Letting a double digit lead evaporate in a few minutes. Looking and playing confused. No identity, except turnover prone and choking close games.
