Current top Ohio St 2024 commit, the #1 WR Jeremiah Smith, taking official visits to other schools

Unlike the news about Ohio Sts 2024 QB commit, Air Noland, this is not a rumor.

He's the 2024 #1 WR at On3, Rivals, and 247.

When is he going to make the final decision: “Not until signing day...... I want to see games and how everything plays out. I’d say December but it might change.” LINK: https://www.on3.com/news/ohio-state-five-star-plus-wr-commit-jeremiah-smith-wont-make-final-decision-until-signing-day/

He says he reads the comments on his twitter. There's fans from several schools asking why not this, why not that? Maybe he's not feeling so secure with one "born on third" coach.

Man, for him tweeting this week about how he’s a Buckeye like (🌰🔒) he sure seems like he’s not locked in. Moreso, if Day or Hartline are fired, he’s going to UGA.

I don’t think Day is gone even if they lose this season. I can’t say the same for his coordinators, but Day is safe until at least 2024 minus a massive implosion this season.

Realistically, there is no one OSU can get that can do any better than Day. Smart and Saban are the only proven better coaches and they’re not going anywhere, and Meyer is probably too much of a PR headache to bring back. In four years, Day has two Big Ten titles, three CFP appearances, a title game appearance, and was a missed field goal away from a second title appearance and almost certainly winning it all.

If I’m an OSU fan, I’d be terrified at the prospect of firing Day and starting over with someone new. There is almost no chance of finding anyone who can do a better overall job, and you risk hiring your own Rich Rodriguez who just ends up cratering your program and sets you back five years.

This is the fantasy about Thirdbase boy.  He's had an incredible 4 year run that gives him a lot of leeway.  With Harbaugh getting his mojo back, and NIL evening the playing field a bit, Day will lose his huge talent advantage and become John Cooper.  Like a frog in boiling water he slowly start losing more games.  Last couple of years it has been 2 losses (up from 1).   Lose a couple of recruits and he start losing to both Michigan and PSU/ND/Wisconsin before losing a bowl game.  He'll still get the 11-1 seasons with a loss to Michigan every couple of years, but 9-3 and 8-4 will happen.  A decade later and people will be bitching that they should have hired Fickell.

Meanwhile, we get 5-10 years of full on Harbaugh kicking ass.  The future seems bright.

I don’t know about you, but I watched that Peach Bowl this past New Year’s Eve. I fully expected OSU’s to get its ass kicked, and they were a missed field goal away from knocking off the defending national champions, and almost certainly winning it all.

OSU does not terrify me the way it did a few short years ago, but to assume they’re all of a sudden going to start going 8–4 or 9–3 on an even occasional basis under Day, to me, is ludicrous. I think they’ve only had two seasons in the last 20 years where they didn’t win at least 10 games. It may even be 11.

I think Michigan is the best equipped to beat OSU now that it’s been in the last two decades, but I don’t think OSU is going anywhere. I have to see them go 8-4 or 9-3 before I believe it’ll happen.

That's why it is sort of a fantasy.  Even during the Cooper years OSU had some terrifying teams and we were the underdogs.  Eddie George was a monster, but we Biakabatuka'd them.  They had a talent advantage then, but it was much smaller.  We might be slightly favored this year, but they are still terrifying and probably still have more talent albeit younger talent.  The fantasy is that instead of 94 average recruit rankings OSU fall down to earth at 91-92 and that we jump up to consistent 91-92 talent levels.    Let's will this into being.

To me it isn't a big deal for them.  They have studs at WR all the time.  I don't like them at all but one place.they could afford to lose the #1 recruit at their position is WR.   OSU is still going to have the first or second best recruiting class in the BiG 10.  So we have to recruit just as well and manage to get some equally good players on defense.    As much as I hope they fall off in wins and recruiting I don't see them falling past top ten in nation in recruiting or being the at worst the 3rd worse team in The Big Ten.       In the end Go Blue and to me this is something MSU fans would do on their board a out us losing a recruit.    We should be better and above this about posting stuff to the board.

This dude has pretty sick tape and we really don’t want our DBs having to chase him around the field.

Yes please don’t join a Big Ten team.

As much as I hate the saying "living rent free in your head", this post perfectly explains that. Who really cares if a commit for OSU is taking official visits? We've beat them CONVINCINGLY two years in a row and we're still making posts about a commit not even decommitting, but taking other visits. Can you imagine having a rival classmate in high school and when his girlfriend hangs out with another guy, you get that excited about it that you go post on a social forum? We have a really good team, let's focus on that.

This is a tiny story, agreed, but OSU's recruiting advantage the last 10+ years has been a big story. They didn't used to recruit *that* well. Meyer took them to another level and Day has maintained it so far.

Again, imagine how much fun The Game would be with rosters of similar talent and Michigan's apparent coaching and culture advantages. Wouldn't you like to see a rout?
