2025 LB Mantrez Walker names M to top 4
Buford (GA) Buford linebacker Mantrez Walker named Michigan to his top four, along with Florida, LSU, and Penn State. He visited Michigan a couple weekends ago.
He also set a commitment date of February 11, which is next Saturday.
He called Michigan his "dream school" but that's not always a dead giveaway.

Cool name

2025??
That's a long time to hold on to a kid from Georgia

Nothing makes sense anymore in recruiting, these days.

Raylen Wilson was committed a year before he wasn’t

There was a DL from Buford who said Michigan was his dream school before he committed to Charlie Weiss then ended up at Florida.

Weird no Georgia for a Buford kid

Yeah I thought that was interesting too -- according to On3 there is no offer from Georgia either. However he has a lot of other very big schools in for him including OSU and Tennessee, and the ones in his top 4.
I'm thinking this is probably the equivalent of a kid who would calculate on the infallible MGoBlog composite as somewhere between 3.85-4.15 stars. No science or knowledge, just guessing based on presence of some offers, conspicuous absence of others (homestate Georgia, Alabama).
Seems like a great pickup if it's his dream school though.

I believe he's a Texas Ranger....and he's into ju-jitsu...

I hardly know her!

That's gonna be Matress with auto correct.
February 4th, 2023 at 5:48 PM ^
My autocorrect will jump to Mesopotamia because it's always way, way off.

Still traumatized from the Raylen Wilson thing

Two northern schools and two southern schools. Curious. Would be a nice get, especially since he also has offers from Ryan Day and Mel Tucker. February is pretty early to make a choice. It certainly won't deter Georgia should they decide to wade in with a barrel of cash.
February 4th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
Not just the fact that it’s February, more the fact that he can’t even sign for another 22 months
February 4th, 2023 at 4:53 PM ^
He said he almost committed while visiting so maybe there is a chance?
February 4th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
Still odd the Georgia isn't in the mix. Must be like CJ Carr bit.

Still really early for 2025 kids. They’re still sophomores in high school. So Georgia is likely slow playing the local kids to see what they can get nationally and figure they can circle back if they want.

4-5* Sophomore from the South visits Michigan and calls it his "dream school"
A story as old as time.

I dream about all kinds of shit that I don’t want IRL
February 5th, 2023 at 2:20 AM ^
Michigan is his dream school until Georgia or Alabama offer him, then it’s “buh-bye” to that school up north.
February 4th, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
Even if he commits to Michigan I’d be surprised if he actually ends up here. 2025 is an eternity from now.
February 4th, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
Yeah, same thing with that CB commit from Florida
February 4th, 2023 at 5:38 PM ^
Michigan as the dream school is usually the kiss is death for us.
February 5th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
What it really means is:
"Am I going to Michigan? In your dreams. "
February 4th, 2023 at 5:43 PM ^
The dreaded "dream school" comment... I always feel like when recruits mention UM as their dream school, there is some type of stipulation or weird circumstance that prevents them from actually ending up at UM. My bad for the Debbie downer POV but disappointment thrusters prepare to engage.
February 4th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
You are right though. Also, don't forget the his father and grandfather played for Michigan one.

Mantrez Walker's father and grandfather played for Michigan? That's news to me if true. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I haven't heard that.
February 4th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
Marquise Walker's son?
February 4th, 2023 at 9:53 PM ^
His dad's name is Malcolm Walker. I don't remember a Malcolm Walker who played for Michigan, but maybe he was a walk-on or something...
February 4th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
The only player I recall who followed through on the "dream school" comment was Jabril Peppers.
February 4th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
It would only be reasonable to do our part to help make his dream come true. Teamwork makes the dream work. Sign the LOI.

Kirby will throw a bag at him his senior year and get the flip.

2025...Weren't we supposed to have flying cars and living on the moon by now...

2001: A Space Odyssey took place 22 years ago. So where are the giant space babies? That film lied to us.

Would be huge for Michigan to land this kid.
