UGA "The Film Guy" analysis of OSU offense v UM defense

I've never seen anything by this UGA fan, but he analyzed the OSU offense against our defense in anticipation of their Peach Bowl matchup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzPObFDhY00; some reinforcement of themes from MGoBlog write-ups/podcasts but key takeaways (it's over 52 minutes long but interesting if you have the time and think that kind of thing might be interesting):

- fair amount of respect of Stroud/Harrison talent but view that some of OSU's o line was suspect

- some befuddlement at some play call decisions that don't target some of OSU's better talent in key situations

- recognized UM's strategy of mixing coverages, forcing long drives by keeping plays in front of them and letting shorter field in the red zone lead to more FGs than TDs

- criticism of OSU's lack of execution and, in some cases, preparation and acknowledgement of UM making adjustments along the way while OSU did not; along with repeating plays/tendencies

- general opinion that UGA superior defensive talent/speed will prevent some of the run game stuff that worked against UM from being as successful (this wasn't delivered in an annoying way just his perspective which probably has some merit)

so - nothing hugely new but interesting to get a 3rd party perspective.

This guy's analysis is good (and entertaining). I highly recommend watching his breakdown. He knows what he's talking about.

If Michigan and Georgia have a rematch, I look forward to seeing him break down the 2 national semifinals.

"He" hyperbolizes but he also has his general impressions correct. Interesting that he really only noted Michigan's defense as being sub-par to Georgia at the LB position. Here, Georgia is extremely  well-coached...conversely, the OSU coaching is very suspect. OSU has the raw talent to match Georgia-can the players play over the top of their questionable coaching??? I don't believe that OSU can pull this off-defense is too important...we will see.

Loved his comment about the OSU defense, "They can't stop a nose bleed." This is where Georgia could turn this into an easy 3-5 TD win-they will stop OSU on offense often enough.

It's solid analysis but I just can't with guys trying to ape this ESPN coach-speak "#7, you go be special/#18, you go be special", "you gotta have that dog in you", "that's so mid" cadence.  It's infuriating and is so try-hard "cool" even if coaches absolutely talk like that.  I'm probably just too old but it feels like compensating for what, in the end, is pretty generic analysis because 14 games into a college season most people know about these top teams.

OSU has really good skill position players but Stroud has shown consistent weaknesses, their offensive line can't really run-block consistently, Harrison is an elite WR but Egbuka isn't quite at that JSN/Wilson/Olave level that makes their offense hum, etc.  Their defense has playmakers but for a couple years now have had issues at cornerback and at LBer.  Georgia's defense is a step down from last year's all-world unit but Jalen Carter may be the best defender in the country and they've got a ton of talent in the front 7.  Their offense is solid but benefits from never really being put in a position where they have to go toe-to-toe with comparable talent and win a shootout, and so while Bowers is probably the most complete offensive player in the country and they have a backfield full of complementary backs we don't really know how much stretch their WRs can get when necessary.

So yeah, Georgia being about a TD favorite seems right, but there's a path where OSU makes this interesting if they can just out-athlete Georgia's secondary like Alabama did in the SEC title game last year.  But that's a tall order and relies on a mobile QB who can keep plays alive; Bryce Young did that to Georgia but that's not Stroud's game and beyond that he doesn't have that level of athleticism.  So it feels like it'll be competitive for 15-20 minutes and then Georgia will get a break and it'll be a slow-motion blowout from that point on.

I think there’s a ton of pressure on OSU coaches for this game.  The natives are already getting restless.  A large loss may make them more so.  A win and Day gets some reprieve

I think due, to the mere fact that we've all written off OSU as soft and having no chance to beat Michigan-heavy, that they're just going to go out and beat Georgia. 33-30.
