I'm in for the party, should be fun, but signing day is not what it used to be. Given all the dynamics in CFB today IMO should be eliminated. Let these guys sign whenever they want.

Having a signing day is very much to the players' advantage.

Coaches like to pressure kids to commit, especially on visits. Having a signing day gives players an easy way to back out when they get better offers or just get over the excitement of a visit. Fans and especially coaches might not like it when players decommit, but having that option is good for recruits.

I think the point of eliminating Signing Day (early or otherwise) would be that kids are never locked in until they enroll.

Obviously, there are a ton of variables that kids and a CCG oops would have to consider and juggle if no one is locked in to anything before the fall semester, but with things like NIL now openly available, I would prefer a kid not be pressured into “committing” until the last possible moment.

Closing out with Karmello English and Jyaire Hill would be awesome. Doesn’t seem to be our year with top-100 types but here’s to hoping we get a crazy flip or something.

It’s insane to look back at the recruiting rankings for the last four years and see teams like Texas and TAMU in the top ten every single year.

For example, starting with 2018, Texas’ classes ranked 3-3-9-15-5.  TAMU is 17-5-6-9-1.  So those would’ve been this year’s 5th-1st year players

And yet when it comes to their on-the-field performance?  It is inexcusable for both of those teams to have not even been close to a top ten performance this year

They waste so much talent. I don’t understand why players can’t see it and they continue to sign up for what are objectively failing programs.

We, as fans, are so fixated on individual rankings and potential talent that we forget that team chemistry is KEY in winning. It helps to have that talent but if you can't harness that talent into a cohesive unit, it will all be wasted.

It is why Saban is a coaching GOD. He has been the most consistent in being able to mold his individual talent into a complete team with the focus of winning it all. And he has the NC to show for it.

Let's hope that Harbaugh can do that at Michigan over the next decade.

looks like 28 according to on3.com.   reveals a problem with that program not being able to grow their team in the era of NIL.  a revolving door of players is not conducive to success on the field.  and today’s class looks to be a drop in ranking from recent years.https://www.on3.com/college/texas-am-aggies/transfer-portal/wire/football/2023/

I agree with this take.  Pay for play is not part of the Michigan culture, nor should it be.

That being said, they need to have a pretty clear path to a legit NIL program that rewards players on the team.  This should be a home run for U of M, as they have the strongest fan base and alumni network in the Country.

I’m sure they’re working on it, and that we will see better results in the 2024 class.

The huge challenge for teams loaded with talent is managing the expectations of playing time, and preventing widespread complaining from players who expect more.  A lot of these highly rated guys come in being told they're going to start.  And when they don't they complain or leave.  Also, some highly rated players just don't work very hard.  They get by on talent in H.S. but when they are on a team loaded with good players, they aren't up to the challenge.  That's likely why Harbaugh likes the kids who love football and have the high work ethic, regardless of their star rating.

I mean, they can recruit at that level just by going after local kids. Kids who grew up watching and rooting for their programs. Kids wanting to play close to home. Programs benefit all the time from getting kids with a similar profile, it just happens that Texas is one of the most talented states for football recruits.
