OSU Jaxon Smith-Njigba skip playoffs and enter NFL draft
Pretty odd here, I think they all thought he'd be back for playoff
December 5th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
If Saban wants in he is going to will his players into wanting in.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
I have quite a few osu fan friends down here and they don't seem remotely interested in being in the playoffs. At all. It's very weird actually. Since they didn't win The Game, AND they lost at home, my fan friends have written the year off. There's absolutely no motivation or discussion coming from them about it. We deflated the organization, let alone Columbus. I was in Columbus the very next Monday after the game and there was not one Buckeye related decoration in the city, or in any of the offices I visited. That was extraordinarily rare.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:57 PM ^
I don’t really even think winning the Playoff after losing the way they did would salvage the season for them.
December 5th, 2022 at 7:55 PM ^
Seriously?
December 5th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
In addition to wanting to avoid further injury, it could be that he and the coaching staff did not feel he'd be recovered enough to contribute significantly on Jan 31.
This UGA-OSU match up sucks. Can't figure out who I'd rather win. Go Meteor?
December 5th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
Dude, OSU for sure. They are several steps below UGA. That Dawg is biting right now. Beatable, but damn they are tough.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
It is a no-brainer for me. No matter what happens in the National Championship game, I want Georgia to dominate OSU. It's funny that all I heard out of OSU fans after The Game was how bad their team, coach and QB are. Now those same people are acting like they deserve to be in the playoffs. If they beat Georgia, it just makes their annoying fanbase get louder and dumber. If they lose to Georgia and we beat TCU, you will want to grab some popcorn and spend the next week reading their message boards as they call out all the players in their program.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
That depends on the results of Michigan's game. I will not root for OSU but if Michigan wins, then I am rooting for GA to lose. If TCU wins, then go Georgia.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
If I could ever bring myself to root for the buckeyes, I’d agree with you. But I want UGA to embarrass them 100-0 regardless of how M does.
December 5th, 2022 at 4:30 PM ^
Agree 100% here
December 5th, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
I'll be shocked if a few other Buckeye starters don't follow suit.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
Prepare to be shocked then. This is what all these kids dream about, what they prepare their lives for and in some cases a big part of the reason they choose the schools they do. JSN is hurt - if you're expecting "a few other Buckeye starters" to announce something similar, then you either know something we don't about the injury report or you're talking out of your ass. My hunch is the latter.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
I don't have any information, but if I had to bet $100 as to whether or not OSU has one straight-up opt-out I would bet that they do.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
Pretty similar to the Corum situation. They both had bad lower leg injuries and both required/will require surgery. Both tried to fight through it and couldn't. Good luck to both in the league. Any team would be happy to have them I'm sure.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
i honestly would've been stunned to see him choose to come back for one game.
ohio state guys are, without exception, me-first guys. he wasn't going to come back to help the team, that's for sure.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
Come on, man.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
Not rushing back from an injury doesn't count as skipping. For all we know we is opting for surgery he put off all year trying to get back for Michigan. Hamstring injuries are hard and pushing yourself to come back is how you make it worse which is what he did already earlier this year. Its why I'm worried about Morris right now. I think his pushing to try to play the OSU game might put his participation in the playoff in jeapordy
December 5th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
Ohio State fans are the most spoiled fanbase in the country (besides maybe Alabama), so of course they thought JSN would come back. Instead, they are the same team that lost on November 26 after spending 365 days preparing for the team they hate the most. In order for this OSU team to win even one playoff game, this team has to be very different than what team we played on the schedule two Saturdays ago. Their fanbase will of course expect them to be different because hey they have had everything else go their way the last 15 years. I believe they are in for a rude awakening when they play Georgia and the best thing is they are all getting their hopes up again just to get blown out and then begin trashing their QB and Head Coach again.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
Smart move. It's not like he'd improve his draft stock or anything if he played. He's already one of, if not, the top WR in this class.
On a separate but somewhat related note - CJ Stroud can definitely do damage to his draft stock by playing against another stout defense.
Would hate to see that little fuck get injured but there is always a chance. Higher probably of him just shitting the bed however.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
Ryan Day is chewing him out for making the announcement public. Would have been better to send smoke signals to Georgia.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
The team, the team, the… oh wait, never mind.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:10 PM ^
Harbaugh was openly fishing and interviewing for a NFL contract last year. Let's not forget that. He would have bolted in a second had Minny offered him the job.
Now a days kids have to look out for their future. Playing in this game is meaningless for him.
Smart move by the kid.
December 5th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
Harbaugh would not have left his team in the middle of the CFP.
December 5th, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
No, but he was in Minneapolis interviewing on National Signing day. Not that NSD is a big deal anymore - but still...
December 5th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
Happy to hear it simply because it is OSU. This is the modern era of football I guess, but seems like he's quiting on his teammates when there is so much history to potentially be made.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:03 PM ^
I still think opting out of games that you're getting paid a scholarship to play in is a shitty thing to do, even with so many players doing it. But it used to be justified with "it's just a meaningless bowl game." (Which was always a bunk argument given the reactions of players who win one. Also bunk because it suggests it's cool to just quit the moment you're eliminated from national or conference championship contention.)
But now you got guys bailing on the playoffs? So much for "it's just a meaningless game." I like a little OSU schadenfreude as much as the next guy, and I know JSN's been hurt, but if he's healthy enough to play, and he chooses not to, it's a crappy move.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
Dude saw us destroy them..... has watched GA play and realized it isn't going to be any better....
"I'mma..... take a pass here, prepare for the NFL draft"
December 5th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
Not surprising. Hasn’t played all year. Better to prep for combines and pro days. Crazy how good last years OSU WR corp was.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
This is not an opt-out situation.
From ESPN: "I want to be out there competing with my brothers more than anything," Smith-Njigba told ESPN on Monday. "The decision to turn pro was made after I was unable to come back on multiple occasions during the season and the doctors determined I would be unable to participate in the playoffs."

December 5th, 2022 at 5:35 PM ^
None of those pesky facts here. We need to continue calling him a quitter, shitty, etc in order to validate our moral superiority complex.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
I'm pretty surprised - but seeing as he's dealing with injuries I guess it makes some sense? Dont fault the kid, wish him the best of luck in the pros.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
Wouldn't matter if he played. Bucks gonna get spanked!
December 5th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
He knows OSU is only playing in 1 game
December 5th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Can’t risk injury just to play for the national title
December 5th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
In other Bucknut related news - but not new thread worthy - it looks like Kevin Wilson is going to be head coach at Tulsa. That's OC Kevin Wilson who didn't actually call any plays, was just rescued by THE after he got run out at IU for abusive conduct. So not sure how big a hit this is to their staff.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:25 PM ^
OSU is putting an ungodly number of WR1 and WR2's in the league.
December 5th, 2022 at 6:08 PM ^
And yet we beat all of those guys.
So proud.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
Perhaps NIL can sort out how to buy these athletes injury insurance and pay the premiums. Everybody wins
December 5th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
Didn't feel like being part of the Georgia beat down coming.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
Culture problems in Columbus.
December 5th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
If it ain’t about me, I’m not interested…
December 5th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
It's gotta be that he won't be right from the injury in time for game. That makes this no real decision at all. Dude is still hurt and the season isn't gonna be long enough for him to come back. Happy trails.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
And I'm sure OSU fans will kindly respect his decision.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
Injury must be a season-ender.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
So much for the narrative that they're soft...
December 5th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
Not sad for OSU, but it is significant on the field. JSN and MHJr together on the field would have been a big deal and a worry for Georgia.
Unless I’m missing something, this doesn’t suggest that he’d be ready to play in the playoff. Sounds more like it would be questionable at best and he’s just going to fold the tent now and not try to get in game shape.
Somewhat surprised; I figured he’d be back for the playoff.
This kind of sinks OSU’s slim-ish hopes, I’d think.
December 5th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
I don't know why you would not want to at least make Georgia think he could be playing. Make them have to plan for him in some fashion. This announcement by OSU does nothing but make Georgia's job easier. Why do that?
December 5th, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
built in excuse for why OSU lost…..if we would have had Jackson Smith, we would have won
December 5th, 2022 at 9:12 PM ^
First of all , it’s Jaxon not Jackson . If we was to use a excuse it would of been we didn’t have our # 1 and # 2 running backs and ran a back that was a linebacker this year and only had one carry before The Game .
December 5th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
While we are on this topic, can anyone tell me one reason why Marvin Harrison Jr. should play next season? He's easily the #1 WR in next years class and would easily be this year's #1 WR.
Who's throwing to him next season?
