This. If one was focusing on the main point of the tweet (rich record execs taking advantage, etc), I can see glossing over the other antisemitic part before re-reading it again and realizing how awful it was overall. I've got no problems with this. Move on.

The tweet from the screenshot in the other thread says, "Jewish people will literally tell you that they want you to kill your own and humiliate your women simply because they have children to feed."
Whether or not the video says anything about record executives or anything else, the text of the tweet itself -- the thing everyone sees on the feed -- is plainly antisemitic, full stop.

The first two words of the retweeted post are literally “Jewish people”. This is not some subtle dog whistle or obscure stereotype, or a facially neutral post that happens to link to an antisemite. It’s just “Jews do bad thing”.

I think it'd be one thing to say "I accidentally did this while swiping through." He said it was a glitch instead, which is a bit less taking responsibility for doing a thing even accidentally and a bit more like blaming robots.

I had a buddy who tried to forward a dirty joke to me and few other work buddies. He accidentally included an email distribution list. It was a very uncomfortable few weeks for him.

I had something similar happen when I worked at a law firm. My friend sent something bawdy to what he thought was my email address ([email protected]). Unfortunately, our email IDs were first initial + last name. And there was a paralegal whose first initial + last name was the same as my last name. Luckily for me she had a sense of humor about it.

Retweeting is a two step process though. You hit "retweet" and then it prompts you once again to retweet. I mean come on man, I do not believe that it was a glitch, unless "glitch" is just just way of saying "I made a mistake and retweeted something that I realize now is incredibly ignorant and hurtful to a lot of people and I am very sorry. I will work hard on educating myself further so that I don't make mistakes like this in the future." Although, I wish he would've just said that instead. It still feels like he's not really owning up to it, but whatever. I agree that as long as he has disavowed the message of the tweet, that's what really matters. I'm sure this will all blow over and be magically forgotten post-MSU.

This exists already, namely if you try to retweet an article and haven't clicked the link. A window pops up and asks if you want to read/watch first before you retweet.

Then he have the nerve to say he should get in trouble for re tweeting. So should you get in trouble also for doing the same thing because you did the same thing. The last thread was just wow, man. The only constructive thing I can say about it is maybe chill a bit and give people a chance to do what DE just did and clarify themselves. Passing immediate harsh judgement is cheap and easy, and you're not the one dealing with consequences if it turns out you should have reserved judgment for a hot minute.

I don't think that it's their feed that's the issue. People are more concerned with whether that represents what is in that young individual's heart. Not saying that's the case with DE, but that is the reason that people care what others post. Many people don't want to actively root for someone who they believe to harbor horrible views.

The Nazis didn’t have an official state policy towards black people because outside of a few thousand citizens( children of French African soldiers and German women) they were nonexistent in Germany.
The Nazis racial hierarchy differs from Anglo-American in that it distinguishes Jews and Slavs from other “whites”. Whiteness is a bullshit identity and nothing confirms that better than the Nazis and the Holocaust.

Apologize. Then express a commitment to exhibit better judgment. Don't make a one-day story a three-day slog. At the very least, UM's SID should have done better to help Donovan address this.
