True, but tracking of cases for COVID 19 is and will be a moot point, as this is going to become an endemic. The fact is, it is quite likely we all will get Omicron at some time, as it appears to be very contagious (albeit, mild symptoms).

Our best bet to go forward is to promote vaccination, and prompt available testing to those who have symptoms. The metrics we should be focusing on in 1) hospitalizations, 2) death, and 3) share of vaccinated. I don't think we should be spending our resources testing 18-22 football players who are vaccinated. And to be frank, if you are hospitalized from COVID, and are unvaccinated, I don't really feel bad for you.

The issue I have with waiting until vaccinated players have symptoms is that there's typically a 1-2 day "presymptomaric" period where individuals are infectious before they show symptoms. And, as you say, even vaccinated players can spread Omicron.

As I said in another thread, I think we need to rethink the 10-day isolation period. The CDC promulgated that back in December 2020, when only a tiny sliver of people had access to vaccines. In my opinion, if a COVID-positive individual  is fully vaccinated +boosted, is symptom-free, and has at least 2 consecutive days with negative rapid tests, they should be able to exit isolation.

My larger point is moving from cases to hospitalizations as the main metric to determine the concerns for COVID.

I concede that the data is still murky, but right now, evidence points to omicron not producing severe symptoms in vaccinated individuals. I just don't see the endgame. COVID is an endemic, and we will see an uptake in winter months.

Hope he recovers well. Also, hope no other player in Michigan or Georgia test positive. Holiday times are tough with everyone going around but hoping they take good measure to contain this. Bowl games are going to be tough.

Recovers? Who said he’s even sick? Constant testing of not at all at risk college athletes remains as dumb today as it has always been and it’s going to be sad if these unnecessary rules end up ruining Michigan’s great season or, for that matter, the seasons of any of the other playoff teams. The NFL and NBA are beginning to admit that it’s all been pointless. I hope the NCAA’s delay in facing reality doesn’t come too late.

Stay in a goddamn bubble. Please. Go do whatever you want, wherever you want, with whomever you want, when the season is over. Until then, a freaking national title is on the line.

If Michigan loses to Georgia because they’re flat out the better team then so be it. I just don’t want to lose to them because someone who was supposed to be on the field couldn’t be.

You're not wrong at all, but as Leaders and Best pointed out, I think it is fair and reasonable that they make some small sacrifices until game time in order to try and limit potential exposure. If they're not already doing it.

Do they need to turn their life upside down and shut themselves off from the outside world like its March 2020? I wouldn't think so unless that is what Harbaugh and Co tell them to do. But if it were me, considering the stakes of what Michigan has in front of it, two wins away from the ultimate prize in the sport, I'd want to limit my exposure to folks outside the football program as much as possible. Just until the season is over, which is only a week and a half to two and a half weeks away.

Just don't take any unnecessary risks.

Time to create a true bubble.

Problem is, they're not pros and the holidays are coming.

Create the bubble and let family test into the bubble. That's the move.

I keep reading about how the CFP "would just be pushed back" should things take a turn south in the next few days...

The problem is that this virus is only going to get worse as the winter days, weeks, months progress.

Shit is about to get really weird.

I am so tired of the past 2 years. Nothing seems to be getting any better. I hope JT feels okay and doesnt have any long term effects. I just want this shit to be over.

We all do brother (or sister)….unfortunately there are powers that be that love the drama and division this brings to the collective masses and the power it gives them. God bless JT Daniels and hope he recovers, God Bless the UGA Bulldog football team, and God bless our Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue.
