New Crystal Ball in for 4* QB Jayden Denegal
https://247sports.com/Player/Jayden-Denegal-46094841/
19th rated QB according to 247 composite.
Would be a really nice get.
Previously crystal balled to... Michigan State ??
I've seen some Spartan fans pretty pumped up about him, too. Muahahahaha
By Sean Scherer, the flimsiest of flimsy picker of balls.
Denegal was on campus today and threw for the coaches live. Earned a scholarship offer after that.
hearing he could commit as soon as today.
That'd be great. He has a decent offer sheet too. Just seems like many of the schools that offered have other QB commits that they seemingly chose over him.
Utah took Nate Johnson
Georgia took Gunner Stockton
Auburn has another 4 star.
When I looked through the qb rankings and saw this guy had MSU crystal balls and no UM offer I always wondered why. I'm hoping we can land him,
UPDATE:
Has since picked up 2 more CB's.
So now we have:
Justin Thind of Michigan State Insider with a 6 confidence
Sam Webb of Michigan Insider with a 7 confidence
Greg Biggins National Recruiting Analyst with a 7
-Update-
Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider in with a 6
Sam is good enough for me. He usually knows something before he picks someone for the good guys.
Sounds like a commit, that hasn't been announced yet.
Competition is fierce between him and Tom Loy
Nttawwt
MSU 247 guy, Justin Thind, who is one of the biggest 247 homers and literally an MSU student, even put a CB in for Michigan
still confused with the repeated digs/gloating/shaming of MSU on this board. their worst football team ever has scoreboard on us.
I didn't see any shaming in that post. Usually there is a little extra bit of good when you take a recruit from a rival. I know OSU likes it when they manage to take a recruit that was ticketed for Michigan.
As for the scoreboard comment, I don't think many are saying Michigan is on top of the world right now, but it never hurts to laugh at the expense of a rival. Illinois basketball (they will argue they are a rival) has scoreboard on us but that didn't prevent us from laughing at some of their missteps.
How long do those who are still fixated on that game (and there are an ass load of them on this board) hold onto that disappointment? Til the next time we win Paul Bunyan? If that's the case, then it won't be long before a Jim Harbaugh coached Michigan team changes that, if history is any indication. I look forward to that excruciating pain ending for you all. Some of us lived through 2008-11 and 2013-15, believe it or not.
All in on the coulda/shoulda/woulda train, but if McCaffrey is available and doesn’t get injured Michigan wins 10/10 times. Milton threw 51 times for 0 TDs.
It was a 3 point win for Sparty despite how bad we sucked. Not the end of the world in a weird COVID season.
McCaffrey wasn't on the team.
Guessing he means McNamara.
McNamara wasn't hurt at that time.
Ambry Thomas wins that game by two TDs.
That loss last year was as ugly as any of the ones you cite and probably more shocking than any of those. The elephant memories are totally understandable and justified.
First Lorenzetti and now Denegal ? Seems like we're taking MSU's guys... wonder if they stick, and was only to bone them.
Works for me!
Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, and Colorado offers in addition to state.
Would be really nice to keep bringing in talent from Cal. and have them stay.
And now Sam Webb has added a crystal ball as well. LFG
Watching a little of his film I like his arm strength better than Nate Johnson. He seems to be a patient qb who makes throws all over the field. Looks like he has some work to do with mechanics just to get more consistent on his throwing motion but for the 2022 class he looks like he’s be a good get
One other comparable to Nate Johnson is he is 6-4 and 215 lbs whereas Johnson is 6-2 183. I haven't watched film of him, but I'm hoping we can land Denegal and still take another QB
Nate isn't 6-2. He's barely 6-0.
Take this with a grain of salt but I know MSU was all over Denegal at the start of the cycle. Then I heard a few MSU 247 guys saying he was there 3rd QB on there board behind Justyn Martin and Katin Houser. Both are committed elsewhere so I doubt MSU flips either. Also MSU insiders consist of guys like Sean Scherer so I wouldn’t read into it too much.
As soon as they realize they won't get him, BAM! there are two guys they want more. That's how they roll over at the RCMB, "insiders" and posters alike.
Honestly the msu 247 guys are the worst in the business by a mile. They consistently put in crystal ball picks based on the slightest of positive messaging (presumably to generate clicks), flips their crystal ball at the last second when they are proven wrong to artificially keep their prediction high, and then pump out articles where "x 4-5 star recruit has msu in their top 7" as if there is any significance to those lists.
I understand most of these "recruiting analysts" jobs is injecting hopium in the veins of the fans for money, but the extent that the msu insiders do it is just sad
I think this is true about his order in the QB priority list at MSU. After their #1 guy went to FSU they were after Nico Marchiol (FSU decommit just committed to WVU) and Katin Houser (BSU commit). Justin Martyn (sp?) was probably next but they were even slow-playing him a bit....then maybe Denegal.
That is not to say he is a bad pickup. MSU is searching for potential 3 or 4 year starter given their current roster and M is hoping to find a decent backup option with the potential to become something special........who is also OK being sandwiched between (hopefully) 2 5-star recruits on the roster.
Denegal fits nicely for what M needs given the available options - (he must have some great measurables given the early high ratings) - and I look forward to what he can do if he chooses to come and work to earn PT wearing the winged helmet.
So, you think they slow-played Denegal and wouldn't accept his commitment because they are hoping to flip a QB? LOL man, I hope so, because that means the MSU staff has no clue how to recruit.
Ann Arbor would be quite an upgrade over Apple Valley....
Is that the school where Jim Harbaugh visited Screech?
I was afraid this would happen.
Michigan put the full-court press on a guy who could run (Nate Johnson), and when they couldn't get him, they offered Denegal.
It doesn't make much sense to me to bring in Matt Weiss because of his familiarity with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens' running game, but then recruit a QB like Denegal. I was hoping Michigan might go after Zion Turner or Beau Pribula instead.
Magnus, what is your assessment of Denegal? Sounds like a run first QB?
No, he's not much of a runner. That's what I was saying. If you bring in a guy because of his knowledge of the QB run game, it doesn't make much sense to offer a guy like Denegal, who can't run the stuff Lamar Jackson is running. It's like hiring Mike Leach's QB coach and then recruiting Denard Robinson.
Denegal is also a huge project, IMO, with all kinds of issues with mechanics, footwork, etc.
This guys might be (hopefully will be) sandwiched between two 5* studs, so I am personal a-ok with taking a project.
Johnson and Turner are projects, too. It's just a matter of what kind of project you want to take. You're not going to get back-to-back elite passers at Michigan right now.
Magnus,
Why bring in Weiss because of his knowledge of the QB run game (Lamar Jackson), when the QB of the future is JJ McCarthy?
If you bring in a guy because of his knowledge of the QB run game,
Did Harbaugh or anybody else on the staff state this is why Weiss was hired? I can see why it would be a logical assumption, but is that the only QB expertise he brings?
Nothing makes much sense with this coach, but it’ll be over soon. Just a little while longer...
Magnus, do you have any insight into what happened with Johnson? Did he just like Utah better, or was Michigan keeping him at arm's length for too long or something like that?
From what I can gather, he just didn't want to travel that far away from home. With high-profile guys like Asiasi and Charbonnet returning to California to play, I didn't have much faith in Johnson sticking around for four years, anyway.
Well, that doesn't bode well for Denegal either! Especially since he'd likely be on the bench for three or four years if all goes well!
Sam said on WTKA Johnson has a brother that is playing JC football and Utah offered him, and Michigan wasn't willing to do that. They like the opportunity to play together.
Magnus, don't you think they are in a precarious situation at QB, in that if they go all in for a running QB, you could hurt your wr recruiting? They still haven't shown the ability to pass effectively and spread the ball around for more than 3 games. If all Matt Weiss is good for, is scheming for a running QB, what in the hell are they gonna do with McCarthy?
