Former Wolverine Botterill named Assistant GM for Seattle Kraken
Former Michigan hockey player Jason Botterill (who was part of the 1996 championship team) has been named as one of the Assistant General Managers for the NHL's newest expansion team, the Seattle Kraken.
Botterill was previously an associate and interim GM for the Penguins (and got his name on the Stanley Cup), and the GM for the Sabres.

Kraken seems an unfortunate name choice in light of certain recent events.

Just as long as Botterill doesn't have Sidney Powell drop the ceremonious first puck.
Seriously though, good for him. I knew Jason from his time at Michigan. Great guy and very deserving.

I know him well too, (LSA 97). Still in touch with him. Luhning and Morrison too, we were all Econ majors. And I agree, he’s a great and brilliant guy. All 3 are but Luhning was the real brainiac. Their parties at the White St house were memorable. Especially when they each tried to drink a Busch Light cube in under an hour and Sloan pissed himself. Fun times.

Has anybody tried the Kraken Black Spiced Rum? Next-morning hangover guaranteed.

It's delicious and my preferred rum.

Speaking of hockey, I didn’t see a “John Muckler dies” OP. Five Stanley Cups! Loved watching those teams play.

Partially because Glen Sather coached four of those Cup teams.

Another Michigan person does well. Always glad to see it.

Even with those star studded teams, he was my favorite player.
those were some fun seasons.

Same.
I have a pile of his rookie cards around here somewhere bc I thought he was going to bloom into an awesome power forward in the National league.

Botterill is a good dude. I'm glad he's getting this job after Buffalo.

What a dumb name. Why Kraken? What does it have to do with Seattle? It’s a mythical Scandinavian creature.
Why not something with fish or the forest? Even something with a mountain or play on the fact it rains a lot. I Don’t get it at all.

the Seattle Grunge

That would’ve been fine.
Off hand I came up with:
Volcanoes, Pines, Mountaineers, Anglers, Trawlers, Surge, Deluge
not all of those are good...but they’re at least related to Seattle

the name originated from the Giant Pacific Octopus which lives in the waters of Puget Sound near Seattle. “The Kraken represents the fiercest beast in all the world,”
It has local meaning and they stayed away from a shitty name like Seattle Giant Octopus/Octopi. Kraken brings some fun to it.

Highly regarded in Pittsburgh.

Not so much in Buffalo however.
