College Hoops Thread
Some topics for discussion:
Transfers, Colin Castleton and Cole Bajema
CC is averaging 23 mpg, 6 ppg, 5 rbg, 1.5 bpg.
CB is averaging 11 mgg, 2ppg
Games today: Villanova vs Texas on now. Texas has had a surprisingly good early season with wins over IU and NC.
Michigan vs UCF at 4pm ET on BTN. Might be our last non conference game. NC State didn't play Saturday because of someone in their traveling party testing positive. UCF hasn't played in a week so they could play some zone today and see how it goes, they do play it some anyway.

UMich women up 48-27 over Wright State at the half, on BigTenPlus
December 6th, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
Good to see both hoops teams looking good early.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:35 PM ^
WBB beats Wright State 82-59. The team looked good through much of the game but had 18 turnovers and allowed 26 offensive rebounds so there are still things to work on. They also struggled in the third quarter in what could have been an epic collapse against a stronger opponent.
Next game is Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. against Butler. Game is on BTN minus.
B1G season starts December 19 against Illinois

You know, I totally forgot about those two guys.
It looks like CC is not going to fulfill the potential he had. In today's game, unless you are an absolute rim protector and beast down low, you have to develop some mid-range/deep game. Colin just never had it, and it didn't look like it was coming either. He may turn into a decent player at some point; however, in year 3, guys generally are what they are.
Bajema, who knows. Dude is rail thin- could turn into something.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:32 PM ^
I was disappointed to see both leave however I believe the players we have now are an upgrade in every aspect. Credit to Coach Howard!!
December 6th, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
I actually kind of saw the Castleton stats a little differently. Comparing him to Davis. AD is 13 mpg, 4.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 0.3 bpg. Seems like CC is more efficient, especially with the blocks. He could've been utilized here for sure. Bajema looks like he's just gonna be a marginal college player at this point.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:41 PM ^
I suppose.
I just saw more out of him. When his college career is done, he'll be one of those dudes that ends up being just a guy. 90 percent of every program has them. We could spend hours remembering dudes that played for Michigan that were just "there."
He had a lot of potential. At this point, it would definitely be a bit of a miracle if he suddenly blossomed into a great player. He's aight.
December 6th, 2020 at 3:56 PM ^
Bajema was a lights out shooter in garbage time, but in actual minutes, he looked like a baby deer skating on ice. He had poor defensive instincts and didn't look like he knew where to be on offense. I always had high hopes that he could end up as some Stauskas/LeVert hybrid, but it never happened

We're going to run UCF out of the gym today. Will reach 100 pts, something like 101 - 79

This Nova Texas game is a battle
December 6th, 2020 at 1:41 PM ^
Texas has an incredible front court. Jericho Sims, former UM recruit Greg Brown and my favorite of the group, Kai Jones. All three guys are explosive around the rim and Brown and Jones both have some floor stretching potential. If UT gets anything from their guards, they'll have a great year.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
Texas’s shot selection was not good to end the half.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
Their guards are their leading scorers right now. They are the upper classmen so id think they will lead the team this year.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
Shaka Smart with hair is something else.
December 6th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
It’s fantastic. Though next he needs to eat a couple hundred steaks. Guy is a buck 20
December 6th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
It looks like his alter ego: Unsuprisa Dumb
December 6th, 2020 at 2:23 PM ^
Exactly. Out here in the Big 1 (Kansas) there are many impressive athletes-they just never learn how to play the game as a team. They will be a #2 seed in the tournament and get beat by the #15.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:06 PM ^
Still ultra bummed over the Zags-Baylor cancellation. I'll forget all about @ 4pm though!
December 6th, 2020 at 2:24 PM ^
Yes, hopefully they will play that game later on. It would've been a good final four preview
December 6th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
Nova just plays beautiful basketball on the offensive end.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:31 PM ^
Wright is the best-by a fair margin.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:55 PM ^
Him and Beilein always felt like a cut above on offense
December 6th, 2020 at 3:55 PM ^
Both teach pretty much the same stuff. I saw Nova use the the Belein “Barry Larkin” a ton today.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:49 PM ^
Michigan WBB gets the win over Wright St, 82-59. Four in double figures, led by veteran Nebraska transfer and B1G 6th Woman of the Year Leigha Brown with 24 and Naz Hillmon with 18 and a double-double. Next up Bradley, Wed at 1pm on BigTenPlus. Go Blue!
December 6th, 2020 at 3:00 PM ^
Wright was sub-par down the stretch in the final 7-8 mins IMO. Nova getting killed on switches in ballscreen action with post-ups vs guards and blow-bys/3s vs bigs on the perimeter. He refused to change up the ballscreen coverage.
Offense doing nothing in the half-court but Gillespie over-dribbling or Robinson-Earl going iso.
Nova was bailed out by Brown/Ramey committing unforced TOs that gave Nova 7 free points when they couldn't generate anything against a set defense.
December 6th, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
Ramy ran his mouth and the Nova put them away. I agree the switch caused some bad matchups for Nova but that’s what they do. They did mix in a 2-3 a couple trips that bothered Texas especially out of TO late

I missed the Ball State game, does anyone know if it's on the web somewhere?
December 6th, 2020 at 3:14 PM ^
I forgot David Dejulius who has only played one game with Cincinnati. His stat line is 34 mpg, 8 ppg, 6 rpg, 4 apg. Out of the 3 transfers, this is the one I dont understand at all. He would've been starting at point. Castleton would've probably been starting as well.
December 6th, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
DDJ playing against Xavier right now. He looks slimmer to me but he cut his hair so that might be it. Didn’t check a stat line but he had a nice drive/layup near the end of the half.
December 6th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
I'm still pretty convinced that the DDJ transfer was due to the impression by the team and staff that Josh Christopher was coming to Michigan and that DDJ wasn't gonna get many minutes. That's really the only reason that makes sense since DDJ was basically in line to be the starting PG
December 6th, 2020 at 3:41 PM ^
Anyone have a good livestream for today's M game? I don't have access to BTN today. THANKS.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:04 PM ^
Let’s go Blue!
December 6th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
Davis!
December 6th, 2020 at 4:09 PM ^
I really disagree with Hunter not starting by now. Michigan just loses too much when he's not on the court for him not to be in the game at the beginning.

December 6th, 2020 at 4:11 PM ^
Bad shot by Smith made up for by the steal and free throws
December 6th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
Our on ball defense is nearly non existent. People drive straight to the basket for scores or fouls.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
Davis kills us on Defense and Franz gets a charge every game and then just whines at the refs all the time.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
Franz got that charge because he refused to pass to Davis.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
It’s the same type of charge every game. He goes into the lane lowers his shoulder and gets called. He then turns and whines
December 6th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Come on defense! You’re pissing me off.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
Our defense literally doesn’t make sense. It’s like we’re letting them drive to the basket but then not sending any help?
December 6th, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
Another bad start. Defense is atrocious.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
We look good against inferior athleticism. But when we face guys just as long and a tad more athletic, they look lost!
December 6th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
If Juwan is hell bent on starting Davis, it needs to be for the first 3 minutes or so and then bring in Hunter. This 7-8 minutes is ridiculous. Also, Brown should be starting.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:23 PM ^
Zone had them befuddled again
December 6th, 2020 at 4:24 PM ^
UCF getting to the rim at will.
December 6th, 2020 at 4:25 PM ^
Well this is a disaster.
