What happens if nebraska decides to play football this year without the B1g?

Scott frost has commented on the possibility previously ( as documented in another board post), but what does the b1g do with nebraska if they choose to play football with another conference this year?

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29640592/nebraska-foot…

I grew up as a child of the 90s and i always loved michigan, but nebraska football was something that i always loved to watch. Option football, tommie frazier, fast defenses. Even into the days of eric crouch tearing up nd in a stadium that was at least half red, nebraska until they fired solich was pure bliss on a gridiron.

As such i was excited when they joined the b1g. But it does not seem that they have added much of value.  Its pretty much a mediocre school with a large football following in the stadium, and a few solid non revenue sports.

Is the b1g better off cutting nebraska loose if they play in another conference this year? Does the b1g replace them if we do kick them out?

My call is yes, give them the boot. They are more of a big12 school any day.

Kick the tires on nd, even with the nbc contract.

Take a shot at texas and oklahoma, even with the longhorn network.

Worst case, cut the divisions and run as a 13 team league. Ncaa has already let the big 12 have their top 2 teams have a championship game with no divisions.

Been over on the OSU boards.  Apparently they too are exploring playing outside the B1G this fall.

I'm a Michigan lifer but both of my parents were Nebraska grads.  If you look at total football wins Nebraska is in the top 10 and without looking I think they are in the top 5.  The arrogance I 0n this board is depressing.

Ohio $tate joins them. if the SEC and ACC play this season the B1G has offficially been broken as a football conference, over, done. Right now Kevin Warren is hoping beyond hope that the SEC and ACC DON'T play because he'll be the guy who sunk the B1G.

I remember watching that Notre Dame game when Eric Crouch was the QB for Nebraska.  It actually went to overtime because ND had two kickoff returns for touchdowns.  But when Nebraska scored the game winner in OT, the looks on the Notre Dame student section was better than porn.

Welcome to 2020 where grammar is racist. Capitalization is a form of supremacy over lower case.

It seems as if Frost's mostly thumping his chest. As others have pointed out, contracts, TV rights, and relationships won't allow Nebraska the freedom to do whatever they want.

I confess a fondness for the school because my dad went there, plus it impressed me that, with few natural advantages, they built a football powerhouse.

But "Nah nah nah I can't HEAR you I'm gonna do what I WANT waaaah" isn't good.

I honestly think we don't know the answer to that because we've never been presented with a scenario like this one.

Could be a contractual breach, but you might see multiple programs agree to break rank and file and do this depending on what the rest of the leagues do.

My guess is the SEC still  plays this season full bore despite why we know that is a pretty short-sighted idea. The ACC  and B1G-12 will be firmly be a split decision between it's members and make some kind of opt-in compromise. Teams like Clemson, Oklahoma, West Virgina and FSU will be looking for teams to play, and someone like Nebraska (and maybe Ohio State, Michigan and others?) raise their hands and agree to breach any contractual limitations to play an abbreviated season.

If it becomes more apparent the NCAA oversight is dissolving and not going to be able to keep the union aligned, and they players want to play, and the health of the programs are stable - I don't see the down side of play a one-off schedule of sorts. Do we really think the aforementioned schools are going to be penalized or not televised? Highly unlikely. The NCAA has self-neutered themselves, if by mid-late September we have this thing more under-control, I would not mind at all seeing schools setup a few games and play an "intra-scrimmage) type schedule.

Dump Nebraska and Rutgers. Nebraska because of this bullshit, and Rutgers because they are Rutgers.  We can justify dumping Rutgers at this moment by saying we needed to get rid of 2 teams for ease of scheduling.  2 birds with one stone.

Nobody to play. Furthermore, there are contracts and obligations that will prevent that from happening.

Big 12 moving forward for now.....that sucks!

I would say that any school that doesn’t choose to act in concert with the decision of the other 13 Big Ten schools on a matter of such gravity as this has effectively resigned from the league, and ought to be so advised.  There is no league if you allow a team to go rogue.  Nebraska should realize that’s its mediocre academic reputation benefits from being a part of the league.

I bet Scott Frost had that PC knowing he could take advantage of the momentum of moving the school back to the Big 12 - I think they would have them back np.

There's nobody to play.  All conferences have gone conference-only or the teams are going with their previous schedules. No one's adding games to accommodate Nebraska or OSU.

You leave the big ten tonight, right now. And when you're gone, you stay gone, or you be gone. You lost your all your B1G privileges. Deal?

Kicking Nebraska out of the conference to bring in Oklahoma and Texas is ridiculous.

Mind you, I'd love to have Oklahoma in the Big 10, actually, but leave Texas out of it. That's too much drama

They’ll have a positive case and that’s all we need to know to indicate why that was dumb. But go for it. Who knows what a future potential NFL income will weigh in the courts.

The Huskers should be immediately terminated as a member of the Big 10.  You can either be a member of an organization or not.  Once the Huskers make such a decision, their rights to their $50 million per year share of the Big Ten Network revenue should immediately cease.  And, more importantly for the worst academically rated university in the conference, all academic ties between Nebraska and the other Big 10 schools should be severed.

There are other schools in this country that might be a good fit, and are academically and athletically adequate to be members of the Big 10.  If not, the Big 10 can survive with only 13 schools sharing the profits of the Big Ten Network.
