It's over, we made it, hallelujah. What did you get?

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on December 25th, 2019 at 8:41 PM

We had a wonderful, if stressful and utterly exhausting, Christmas. Midnight mass was beautiful and everyone avoided talking politics. No serious arguments, stabbings, or other shenanigans.

Now I'm wondering what everyone around here got for presents? Were your gifts to others well received?

My son got me a Michigan baseball cap, which just happens to fit his head perfectly. Mine not so much.

Thank you. Each and every day now has more meaning. We all take living so much for granted until all of a sudden the end looms before us. This past year has been special for us. We celebrate all the little victories and savor the joys that we get, and the losses are so much less important. I am a more humble and more appreciative man because of her cancer.

It's no joke.  Cancer just horrible

I have an Uncle In Law... I guess I was closer to him than that title suggests.  Always nice to me. Michigan fan so great to talk to.

Battling Cancer for 3 years.. Had family Xmas Eve party  at his house with his wife and children so he could sleep when he wanted.  Not long left..

Made it though the party and didn't wake up in this morning.  Can't imagine having to associate christmas with his passing as his kids and grandkids have to.

Bottle of Angel's Envy Cask Strength from my wife

Bobble head of Gandalf from my Son

Framed map of Israel from my Daughter.

One of the best Christmas' ever in my book.  Now if Michigan can find some a way to beat Alabama.

My wife got me a black coffee cup that turns into a map of Middle Earth when you fill it up.  We went to New Zealand this fall, and she knows how big a Tolkien fan I am.  A simple gift, but I love it.  I got her the enameled cast iron pot she's been wanting for some time now.  We basically get each other whatever we want when we want it, so Christmas gifts are more about getting that little something the other person wasn't expecting.

Our kid said he wanted to get Mom a bluetooth speaker she could take outside, so that's what he got her.  He was so excited about it that he went right past the new bike in front of the tree and pulled her speaker out, so that was the first thing opened.  I got to pick out a new coat on Christmas Eve, so I'm good.

Wife got me a bottle of Jefferson's Aged at Sea bourbon.  And some guaranteed not to spill whiskey glasses.  My toddlers have spilled probably $50 worth of alcohol in the last year. Hope they work

I got a new combo drip/espresso coffee maker. My old coffee maker has provided over a decade of service and was showing signs of impending death.  It will be nice to make espresso/lattes for something special.  The wife also got me a new game day shirt.  Need to retire my Addidas stuff.

I love the title.  Couldn’t agree more. The stuff that I got or received could never compare to everyone in my family being healthy and being able to sit around and eat and just enjoy each other’s company!  GO BLUE!!!

The wife got me one of the numbered stadium seat bracelets, advertised on this very site. It's a pretty small piece of seat, but is nicely done and I got #22, in honor of Ty Law.

Merry Christmas!

Mrs. Hatter doesn't work and every year I beg her not to get me anything for Christmas.  I don't really need anything and if I do I'll just go buy it.

I'd say she spent about $100, which is better than usual, and she stuck to getting me things I needed (shaving gear, travel mugs, undershirts, etc).

The kids on the other hand?  I'll be paying off mastercard until spring.  Maybe summer.

I had a great Christmas.  No Michigan gear, but I did get a new sound system so the games will be surround sound.

Not to be a downer, but the best gift was my son in law being able to be here for Christmas.  He is in need of a bone marrow transplant and has been pretty sick.  Watching my daughter and wife cooking and laughing together was great.  I don't think I've heard my daughter laugh since before Thanksgiving when her husband was first admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with rare blood disease.

Double post - second one is better.

First item to add to next year's Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus list: a version of MGoBlog that doesn't jump around on my phone loading things - leading to double posts.

Best present was the chance to see my 9 month old nephew - one of the most infectious laughs I've ever heard.  Downside is that he's been sick of late, so he's also literally infectious.

As a grown man in his 40s I've refused to accept any presents the past 15 or so years. Christmas is for kids and the less fortunate imo.

99.9% of the time, the only thing I kill is a shitload of ammo and targets.....   the other 00.1% of the time I knock down a whitetail or two, which gets processed and thoroughly enjoyed.

I doubt the Almighty takes exception to such enjoyment and responsible stewardship.

Range therapy is a beautiful thing.

I doubt you’re the only one that feels that way, Hatter. And I doubt I’m the only one that thinks it is an incredible gift. I’ve carried firearms for most of my adult life in one form of public service, or another. It’s a tool. Much like a woodworker might receive a saw for Christmas. But that’s just my opinion. Hope y’all had a very Merry Christmas!!?

My boys were excited to get a Ring doorbell and Alexa for Mom. I got a Charter fishing trip from the in laws for some Lake Michigan Salmon fishing in the Spring.

Highlight was playing laser tag with all 3 boys after oldest got a set for Christmas.
