“Joker” Trailer
That movie is almost 20 years old. Minus Will Shatner, who looks much better after 20 years of aging?
Joaquin is a great Joker. The trailer makes me think the movie is going to be bad.
The origin story nobody asked for plus this makes me think we go at least an hour before we see the Joker do Joker stuff. At least it's not Leto?
Seems like a very drawn out character study.
the darker themes of loneliness, mental illness, and bullying is certainly a departure from family friendly blockbusters.
It does seem like it's going to move slowly. But maybe they have only a few scenes at this point to chose from, and later trailers will show some more fast paced stuff. It looks like Joker navel gazing at this point. But, the idea of Joaquin Phoenix as Joker is interesting.
Didn't care for the trailer. In no way do I get the essence of the Joker from the comic books. I understand that Heath Ledger didn't either, but I'm just not really caring for the plot as well.
So you'd prefer a shiny, happy Joker?
That's not the world we live in right now.
You realize you're upset that I don't care for a particular style of comic book character brought to the cinematic world because your argument is that's not the real world.... great argument.
My point is that it's difficult, if not impossible, to dramatize the Joker of the comic books, because there's no inherent conflict. There's a much wider audience for tension and thus the upcoming treatment. Art, even borne of nostalgia, is a reflection of the era in which it's created.
Thanks for the “honest” opinion Debbie Downer. Appreciate you knocking everyone’s excitement down a peg, Negative Nancy.
Wow, if my comment about the inefficiencies of the dce bring you down that much you must have self esteem made of glass. Cry to somebody else douchebag.
Are you saying the performance doesn't fully reflect who you are?
Nature vs. Nurture
I'll watch anything with Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beets in it. Not sure how this movie will be, but those two can do no wrong in my mind. I'm not a massive Joaquin Phoenix fan, though I do agree that he's a great actor. Just not exactly my style.
Phoenix and Leto are both vegan. I feel like a modern day Joker might be also as sort of a contrarian bad guy who is oddly moral. That doesn’t really have anything to do with this movie. Just an observation. Trailer looks surprisingly good. I’d watch it
I normally don’t go for DC, but I will check this out. They have to work in Phoenix screaming,”Am I not merciful?!?!”
Well that looks pretty pointless, which would be an improvement from most DC movies.
Would make a good documentary on the history of the juggalo though.
Really looking forward to this movie. I think they picked the perfect guy to move this character away from the absolutely dreadful disaster that was Jared Leto’s Joker. Don’t get me wrong: Jared Leto is a good actor, but that role was not for him. He tried way too hard in Suicide Squad, and you could see right through it. Also didn’t help that his character had zero bearing whatsoever on the movie. But he was just some wannabe over-the-top gangster who’s 7-10 minutes of screen time were a complete waste of energy.
What I’m curious to see, in Phoenix’s portrayal, is exactly what drives him to mass-murderong insanity. Is it going to be a Killing Joke “one bad day” kind of story, or is it going to be mental health issues that have built up throughout his life, which is what the trailer is alluding to it being. If it’s the latter, the media could (and likely will) try roasting and destroying this movie the moment it comes out, given the somewhat fragile state of mental health in this country.
Unfortunately, we are now so far beyond being able to tell someone “get a grip, it’s just a movie.”
Didn't we get the joker backstory in... Batman? Like, the one with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson? Common crook, landed in a vat of chemical waste and all that?
You did, and that’s the most “popular” version of his origins. But the truth is he doesn’t really have a singular, or 100% true origin story. That’s such a huge part of his character. He’s that insane and unpredictable that you never really know what happened to him.
He says in one of the comics that some days he remembers it happening one way, and some days it’s another way. He then goes on to say that if he’s going to have a past, he’d rather it be multiple choice.
Nerd alert!
That's from the bad old days of comic book movies when it was considered a sin to make a comic book movie that actually, yanno, stayed true to the comic books. Heaven forbid you do that.
This is all a really dumb idea. The whole idea of Joker is you never really know what the hell causes him to be that way or why he does the things he does, and whatever he tells you is a manipulation to get you into a spot to wreck you. Giving him an origin story is like trying to tell the origin of madness. That's before you get into the fact that people are still pretty captivated by the Ledger take on the character and are weirded out by the last failed attempt to reboot the Joker they did like 20 minutes ago.
So of course Warner did it because it's a pretty bankrupt studio idea wise and they figure PEOPLE KNOW THE JOKER DO A JOKER MOVIE.
Many will appreciate it as storytelling for storytelling's sake.
Jesus, man. Then don’t go see it...
I’m actually excited they’re doing a Joker origin story. I think what would’ve been a more “run of the mill” story would be another “Joker vs. Batman, Joker holding city hostage and Batman has to save the day” kind of movie. They’ve got a few of those already, so this is really a fresh take as far as movies with the Joker are concerned.
I've always believed that DC has better villains with heart and emotion than DC heroes. When it comes to emotion and heart, DC villain is on par with Marvel Heroes.
DC stories are more compelling and deeper. Marvel has done better so far in live action. But I’d rather watch a DC animated movie over a marvel live action. I enjoy marvel but the heroes are all soooo generic.
No characters or character dynamic in marvel comes close to Batman and joker. The perfect good vs evil duo of all time
Batman is a bit trite. In general, DC super heroes are out of touch with today's audiences. On the other hand, imho, there are more people who can identify with Marvel Superheroes.
I respectfully disagree. The marvel heroes are basic. There’s not a lot of depth to them. Which makes the movies easier to watch and understand. That’s also why more people can connect with those heroes. They don’t have to invest as much into the character or try very hard to like the character. DC heroes are more like “gods” I guess so it’s harder for people to relate to them. So they require more effort on the audience’s part to develop an attachment to them. But Batman is the most well developed and complex hero of either franchise. His villains all represent something men struggle with and test him in every area. The riddler challenges his intellect, penguin his greed, poison ivy his lust, bane challenges his strength, two face his inner demons, and the joker represents chaos which is direct opposition of what Batman stands for: justice and order. It is the greatest duo of all time. It’s really like God vs Devil.
I still enjoy marvel. I enjoy the avengers movies. Thor: Ragnorok is my favorite of all the marvels. I actually liked the Cap movies. But Chris Evans talking about how he doesn’t like Tom Brady cause he supports trump is really lazy and ignorant. He says people can be friends with different political views but then says he can’t be friends or root for people that support trump. Not getting political I just can’t stand the hypocrisy. “We’re tolerant but not if you don’t agree.” Whether you like trump or not, he needs to do a good job or we’re all f**ked. That goes for anyone who is elected president.
