OT: Ohio St BoT meeting this morning to discuss its findings

Submitted by BeatOSU52 on

"The Ohio State Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday morning to discuss the university's findings from their investigation into head coach Urban Meyer.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. ET at Longaberger Alumni House. While it will open with a public session, the meeting will move into a closed executive session "for the entirety of the personnel matters discussion," the university released in a statement Monday.

Ohio State said last week that president Michael V. Drake will announce his final decision on Meyer after consulting with the board."

Ohio St is saying the part of about it just being verbal findings is false , and that there will be a full report released to the public.

As part of the agreement, all Ohio State fans get a free nut lifter at the gate of the first home game.

And the fight song is changed to start as:

Vibrate with Ohio State

Now that the coaches are here

Set the Earth vibrating

with a mighty "O"

oh,oh,oh,oooooh!

I’m wrestling with two opposing thoughts on this subject.  One, I cannot possibly see how, given the cultural #MeToo climate, that OSU can spin this enough to keep Meyer.  No amount of proper reporting (which is a stretch) can mitigate what a sleaze bag Smith is, nor that Meyer kept him on staff repeatedly.  I just cannot fathom how anyone making the recommendation to the university president can honestly believe that retaining Meyer won’t cause nonstop digging, jabbing, and significant dimishment of the university’s reputation — especially given the two OTHER law suits already hitting the athletic department.

Further, OSU has fired every coach they’ve ever had, even Woody Hayes, so it’s not like there is no precedent.  They may TRY not to fire them, but eventually they do what simply has to be done (often because they’re forced to do so).  Here, as I said above, I just cannot see how the pressure to do what has to be done can be ignored.

On the other hand, and where I’m struggling, it’s OSU and Meyer so I find it very hard to see them looking past the winning.  Ascribing logic to Buckeyes is a fools errand, but one I cannot seem to shake — something most in here don’t seem to struggle with. Yes, they want wins, but this issue has the potential to hurt that as well, if the fallout is strong enough.  Do they really want to roll those dice only to find out down the road that Meyer has become a liability?

We’ll see shortly I suppose.

You know that he has his next story already 3/4 completed.

After PSU, Baylor and MSU..... for meyer to try using the "i did what i was obligated to do, i reported it to an authority"   is so fucking lame.

The next thing McMurphy can write is the obituary for Michael V. Drake's career.

From what I've seen of Meyer's contract, they could easily fire him if they wanted to. To me, that would show OSU as a national leader in trying to change the culture of college sports, which has taken a huge hit (no pun intended) in the public eye over the last few years. But would they? Ha ha! Heck no. If they did, the trustees would all get death threats and be burned in effigy by the fan base.

If the investigation turned up any verifiable information, or if verifiable information exists that action was taken against the staffer directly as a result of having sex with Smith and Meyer knew about it or had to do with it, I think he will be suspended for the first two games of the season. (I could actually see something more severe depending on if Meyer had any direct role in it).  If not, and the president and AD also knew if the 2015 incident with Courtney Smith without Meyer having to report it, he will be reinstated immediately.

Who cares? Did anyone really believe he was going to be fired the way this has played out over the last week? The part I enjoy is watching their fanbase have to bend over to to defend him on social media and message boards. See Freddie Prinze Jr dunking on OSU fans for the last 48 hours.

Urban, their university, and fanbase are indefensible anymore and have become a laughingstock defending an alleged domestic abuser and terrible human being. It doesn't change whatever their success may be moving forward, this stain is never coming off him or their program. See Jimbo Fisher after the Jameis Winston scandal, but worse. #Zone6 for life. Or should I say #ZoneDickPix.

So let them enjoy this fleeting moment until they realize the rest of country is going to be clowning their head coach and program for life.

I would say let the findings come out and each of us have our own opinion.  I think he should get a 2 - 3 suspension and a 250K fine.  I would bet most of the ichigan fan base wants him gone because they know deep down they can't beat him.  I've ripped Buckeye fans on 11 Warrios, some of those posters over there have blinders on.  I'm a die hard Buckeye fan, but even I agree that there have been big mistakes that I choose not to just close my eyes on.

Actually there are many that would prefer to outright beat Urban Meyer in spite of adversity. We have come close the past two years (actually looking like the better team on the field), and other teams have beaten him even when they should not have, so it would be nice to see mortality.

That said, there are also many who are tired of "I reported so I am not responsible for taking any leadership despite being the public figurehead for this university", and would like just once for a major university to set the standard of decency in cases like this.

FWIW, All Urban Meyer had to say at B1G media days was we were aware of the 2015 incident which did not result in legal proceedings, and Zach Smith has been on a short leash since, and most of this would have blown over by now. He's a fool for keeping such a liability on staff, and for his response at media days.

As they say, you can shit in one hand and wish for morality from B1G universities with "State" in their name in the other hand and see which hand fills up first.

There's a plausible premise for keeping Meyer that a spokesperson can recite with a straight face - Zach Smith was a shithead, Meyer didn't know how much but reported what he knew, etc., etc., etc.  We all know it's a lie. We all know Meyer's knowledge of every single aspect of the OSU football program is only exceeded by his carnal knowledge of assorted U-Fla co-eds.  But his dereliction of duty can't or won't be definitively proven, so he's going to be back on the sidelines next Monday, so let's just get this performance over with already.

Meyer runs that whole town. He could shoot someone in broad daylight at the 50 yard line of that toilet bowl stadium and would not even be arrested. Zero chance he gets fired for this.

We say that Ohio Stadium is shaped like a toilet seat because its horseshoe configuration can roughly be described as an oval with one end open which is similar in shape to the inner lids on Western-style toilets.  Most coolers, however, tend to be rectangular so I can see where the confusion stems from.

I bet all the Walmarts and other convenience stores up in Ann Arbor run out of tissue paper.
