OT: Which fan base is the most obnoxious?
I was just thinking about this after browsing the r/CFB reddit and I wanted to know your opinions: For football and basketball, who are the most obnoxious/annoying fanbases?
My votes:
Football - UGA: I cannot stand Georgia fans. They act so high and mighty for a clearly dirty program, and they brag about their recruiting any chance they get, even though they still haven'y won a championship.
Basketball - Indiana: Indiana basketball fans have to be the most annoying college fans I can think of. They're so cocky and arrogant even when their team has been consistently below average in recent memory
Ours, for asking this dumb ass question. All fan bases are obnoxious. To their rivals.
Because of how annoying our fan base has been in the last 10 months, you had it correct the first time.
Batman rests his case...
Msu - worst inferiority complex ever, but otherwise easy to ignore and forget about.
Ohio State - they tend to not understand how stupid they sound. They think they aren't liked because they are the best program ever and their University is as well. News flash, you are still behind in the rivalry and your University will never come close to Michigan.
Georgia and Alabama fans are, on average, inbred to the point of almost being sterile. Just a few more generations to breed them out.
This logic is frustrating as a fan of UM. I’m more inclined to go with the “Alabama and Osu earned the right to run their mouths” argument. Saying that they are “still behind in the rivalry”, sorry, is absolutely stupid.when it comes to being outspoken of the program they support.
We beat them many times before most of the fans they have were born so they shouldn’t talk trash. Really?
Yes.
Having lived in Ohio for the last 12 years, I think there is only one choice.
Yeah, I’ve heard those Miami of Ohio fans can be unbearable
Anything that ends in "State". Three of the worst are in our conference.
Well, for us? MSU fans, hands down. They're also just really bad at being football fans.
As far as fans who aren't from a rival school, I'd have to agree that Georgia fans are pretty terrible. And probably Alabama fans are a close 2nd.
Insofar as it pertains to Michigan, I actually agree - MSU tends to be the most obnoxious to us. I mean, what other interpretation is there of a fanbase whose view on football is steeped in warped revisionism that relies on arbitrary statistics to invent facts upon which they then base their arguments? What other fanbase in Michigan's history feels insulted when they are told that it is not in fact about them?
What do you mean?!?! According to many MSU bros, they have always had a good football fanbase.
It’s easily Sparty, they aren’t even worth taking to. OSU And Bama have earned their right to run their mouths, Sparty absolutely has not, but they certainly act like it.
I was in Jerry’s World for the massacre against Bama, their fans were actually very tolerable. I’d say Nebraska over Alabama, the reason they’re quiet right now is because they suck, when they start winning they’ll be back to being d-bags again, especially if the out hit teams AND win.
Actually, I was staying at the same hotel as some Nebraska fans in San Antonio, for the Alamo Bowl a few years ago. We wound up partying together after the game and they were pretty decent. They even acknowledged their Huskers got lucky in that game.
Pitch the damn ball, Ecker!
Right, it's MSU fans who are the most obnoxious to us and we return the favor.
Nationally I think it's a tossup between USC and ND for football. Georgia fans might be worse right now while they're newly riding high. They'll need to keep that up quite awhile to dethrone those two.
Generally speaking, I find the more knowledgeable fanbases less annoying, the ignorantly obnoxious ones the worst.
Agree about MSU. They're not just obnoxious. They're also disloyal. Look how fast they abandon their team when things go bad.
I've found that there is plenty of hate with OSU fans, but there is also respect. And they tend to have decent knowledge of football.
MSU fans are just trolls. They have no interest in logic, reason, etc. They just want to piss Michigan fans off. They are mouth-breathing pieces of shit. To a T.
Go to any r/cfb Michigan game thread and you have dozens of inbred sparties pushing every button they can think of.
Fuck sparty.
It’s definitely MSU since Dantonio has been there. They just don’t know how to handle themselves because they are troglodytes.
Also, my last interaction with an Indiana basketball fan was him arguing that Indiana was no longer a top tier basketball program. Small sample size but he was not arrogant at all. Indiana folk seem generally good - not dumb, nice school/campus, accepting of what their football program is. Good folk.
In my opinion, MSU fans were always grade-A buttholes long before Dantonio got there. I remember all the shit talking they still did during the JLS years. Just seems like most of their fans frankly are shitty people.
You sure this isn't influencing your Georgia thoughts:

The day when Kriby Smart is nicknamed "the Hugh Freeze of Georgia" can't get here soon enough.
Their class is absolutely ridiculous, right now. Some random facts:
- 5 five-star, 10 4-star kids
- 2nd highest class with only 16 commits. That trails 'Bama, which currently has 19 commits
- 3rd straight year with a 5-star running back commit
- More than double the top 100 guys of anyone else in the SEC East
Ohio St in fball and b-ball.
Notre Dame.
Clearly MSU.
95% of fam bases are absolutely atrocious. Ours included. But for Michigan specifically, MSU is by far the worst. I’ve never seen a fan base with a bigger inferiority complex than them.
MSU
OSU
I can think of one fan base that's made it their mission in life to be as obnoxious as possible to another fanbase, to the point that their entire existence hinges on another schools existence, at the exclusion of all morals scruples and decency.
This. This is the genetic mutation that set forth the disease that announced itself in the form of Larry Nassar and the rapey football and basketball teams. And that continues to deny, obfuscate, lie, and otherwise just fuck everything up in the wake of it. The thing they are about more than anything else, and that unites them all, is they really, really, really hate Michigan.
Every fanbase. Including, and maybe because I'm around here more than anywhere else, especially this one recently.
Yale. Fucking elitists.
OSU
I’ll give you $100 if you can get one of them to admit to any wrongdoing in their program or describe urban as anything other than a walking legend.
Probably ours in all honesty.
People who are BOTH Kentucky basketball and Ohio State football fans. Yeesh.
This particular animal species is most likely to be found in Southwest Ohio.
All fan bases are bad and anyone that believes theirs is superior to others is wrong. Having said that, KU basketball fans are the worst because they believe basketball matters in the grand scheme of college athletics. Nebraska fans are on the list as well for still thinkings it is still 1991. This is a tough one though because the same can be said for a large portion of Michigan fans.
SPORTS!!!!!!!
I’d put my two cents on PSU. The vocal minority that defends Paterno are the worst.
Michigan State in football, and Duke in hoops.
I think you misspelled UNC there... just saying.
USC, OSU and Bama
everyone else is playing for 2nd place! No fan base is worse then these 3 teams
Definitely MSU. Obnoxious bunch of morons along with their arrogant coach. Than OSU.
Not sure if trying to make Michigan fans look bad, simple troll, or both.
ND football fan / IU basketball fan... they are the same person 99% of the time.
Also... when you move to another state, the person who stupidly asks why you don't root for their in-state program as if everybody just changes their allegiances the minute you physically cross into a new state.
ND, MSU, and Texas...OSU fans obviously.
Staee
From personal experience at that OSU v OU game (yes, I know... but my wife's husband was finishing his phd in physics there and it was rumored to be a good game) and having seen an OSU fan smash an old timer OU fan with his kid/grandkid? next to him, in the mouth... I'd have to say I have -1^20 respect for OSU fans. At a UM game that guy would have been strung up on charges and crucified by the media.
It literally took me until I returned to Michigan for several weeks for my faith in humanity's potential to be restored.
Being a math guy, I'd like to point out that -1^20 = 1, and I'm not really sure what it means to have "1 respect" for OSU fans, though I think I get your point.
WTF?
