Vote: Michigan (most storied college football program)
ESPN Sports Nation is running a poll of college football's most storied football programs.
Turn on your biases and go vote for Michigan b/c what else do we have to do today with signing day 2014 in the books and only a Nebraska Pos-Bang to occupy our Michigan fandom for the day.
To hell with ND!

Just voted, but I feel that there is no way we win this poll even though it really is meaningless. Such a shame that we are behind by so much.

GASP, CAN YOU IMAGINE THE CONSEQUENCES IF WE LOSE?
February 6th, 2014 at 10:40 AM ^
we're winning the state of Michigan. Take that Sparty.

Just for the board's information, if anyone was curious, there are currently 32,930 votes, and the breakdown is as follows:
Alabama - 38%
Notre Dame - 36%
Michigan - 11%
USC - 10%
Oklahoma - 5%
February 6th, 2014 at 9:35 AM ^
Funny, didn't we teach Notre Dame how to play football?
February 6th, 2014 at 10:00 AM ^
then they turned around and taught Navy. Like that MEANS something...
February 6th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
I don't see Navy on that list so, yeah, i think it means something
February 6th, 2014 at 9:38 AM ^
Does it mean the most wins on the field? Does it mean the most national championships? Does it mean the most Heisman Trophy winners? Does it mean since 1950, or since 1879?
Or does it mean the most written-about in the national media? The most "famous?" The most hyped?
I believe that the most common intended meanings of the word are in the second sentence, and by that standard Notre Dame is ahead, followed relatively closely by Alabama.
February 6th, 2014 at 9:39 AM ^
and all that stuff.
February 6th, 2014 at 9:43 AM ^
Michigan will never come close to winning that poll.
February 6th, 2014 at 10:03 AM ^
you'd end up not getting negged if you'd add something to the end of that sentence, such as:
"...because all the delusional SEC homers and ND wannabes...." blah blah blah, rabble rabble.
Its all in the delivery, my man.
February 6th, 2014 at 9:45 AM ^
I'd rather just not lose 6 games a year, than win this poll.
February 6th, 2014 at 9:48 AM ^
The thing I find most fascinating about these ESPN polls is the almost unspoken SEC allegiance that goes on. Any time that there's a poll and there's an SEC team involved, the whole southeastern US is lit up for that school even if the rest of the country is voting otherwise.
There could be a poll "Which school is closer to the Pacific ocean? USC or Ole Miss?" and the whole SEC region would still vote for Ole Miss.

It's funny to see USC losing to Notre Dame in California.

It's funny to see ND leading Alabama in two S-E-C states: Missouri and Texas.
Must be the fine citizens of those two states are showing some resistance to the S-E-C brainwashing. Unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before they, too, fall in line. ESPN will continue to do their part in the ongoing indoctrination...

I'm trying to remember all very important things we've been implored to vote on:
- Most iconic fight song
- Best rivalry
- Best helmets
- Cover of NCAA 13
- Best stadium
- Best tailgate experience
- Most exciting player
- Most valuable player
- Most underrated player of the year
- Best Lineman
- Best Kicker
- Best QB
- Best RB
- Best offensive player
- Best defensive player
- All time best coach
- Best current coach
- Best stadium tradition
- Best chant
Which ones am I missing?
February 6th, 2014 at 10:22 AM ^
Best underwear
Edit: But seriously, I remember a vote for best stadium entrance, unless by best stadium tradition is what you were referring to.

Most awesomely dreaded QB...
But that was a couple seasons ago.

Alabama, there lived an evil genius robed in Crimson. This fallen angel had cast a spell over the land -- a Crimsom Tide -- that led to unspeakable acts by people under its spell. Trees were murdered, tea bags were dunked on innocent drunks from Louisiana, and young men were duped into believing they would receive a first class education and never be forced to leave the Tide. Good Witch Emmert of the North was powerless in the face of such unmitigated evil . . .
[I can see how Alabama is leading, they are a storied program]
February 6th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
yeah because you just put them in a story
February 6th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
Well it is alive and true but ya gotta admit the most recent NC have alot to do with it. Mich has won 1 NC in the last 65 years. Damn even MSU has 3 or 4 in that time. Gotta admit I was surprised at ND beating out USC in Cally. Not real sure why Oaklahoma is on this list outside of their 50's run of an unbeaten streak, and occassional top 5 every now and then. If I could sum it up, lists like this are futile, all programs are only as good as their last year. What happened in 1999, 1966, 1902 matters little.
February 6th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
looks like we have no chance to win this poll

We are...
2-2 against Alabama
24-16-1 against Notre Dame
0-1 against Oklahoma
4-6 against USC
No commentary, just curious enough to look it up and impulsive enough to post it here.

These kind of polls always fall upon misunderstood voters - the current generation, and football over the last ten years. "STORIED"....the key word here folks. Michigan is easily above USC, and I think Okalahoma as well. There may be argument for Alabama and ND. However, if you look at our head-to-head against that "storied" program, Michigan has pretty much owned the ND series.

The one national title since 1948 will get us every time. If we could have won at least one or two in the 70s and 80s like Notre Dame we'd probably be more highly regarded.

What this poll will end up indicating is who the general public thinks is the most popular at this time. Alabama will win.
