OT - Lions vs. Giants Open Thread

Submitted by TheFrigz on

Lions take on the Giants at home today.  Still need a Bears and probably a Packers loss today, so feel free to discuss the Packers game in here too (they're playing the Steelers in GB).

My hopes are very low.  Go Lions though.

Bring back Fontes.  At least when his career was on the line, the Lions seemed to play well.

Schwartz basically rode a hot start to one season over 5 years to the playoffs, and it is time for him to go.

If anyone wants to know why you take a knee a la MJD when you're at the goal line and can run out the clock in a tie game, the Steelers are offering a master class here.

i think the lions have made strides the last few years in getting good player personnel.  that said, how much influence does schwartz have in making the draft picks, etc.  20%; 50% or more?  i'm hoping that axing him will have zero negative impact.

and being a long-time Lions observer I'm not remotely surprised by the outcome.

When I look at the stats I see Johnson only had 3 receptions. Is he hurt or just triple-covered all game?

We now have just one example to fill the "evidence base" concerning the Detroit Lions. They are one of the very few teams to have a dominant divisional record yet be out of contention for the division. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/standings/

Different coaches, different players (some truly great), different GMs and different executives and yet the results are largely the same - flickers of hope admist a thick gloom of mediocrity. When this happens in other sports it is clear that there is a curse bedeviling the team and only a full blown exorcism will get the team to the next level.

Barry Sanders may turn out in retrospect to the most insightful of the recent Lions - he saw only years of the same old SOL (same-old-Lions) and was able to run and walk from the game.
