Big 10 Championship Game Open Thread
No meteors seem in the forecast in the greater Indiana area per NASA, so we'll be forced to watch our top 2 competitors in the East face off. Short of a 25+ pt blowout MSU is destined for the Rose, OSU is playing for the right to give up 60 pts to Florida State.
Have at it....

Hope Mattison is watching this game. Incredible that Michigan couldn't do that all game against Ohio. Too much respect.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:17 PM ^
MSU has playmakers on all 3 levels of their defense. UM has 2 - JMFR and Blake. We are a ways away and its not just about "youth", we have 7 upperclassmen starting.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
M would have more playmakers blossom over the course of the season is they were more aggressive and gave players more of a chance. Staee had no one on the line to start the season but Calhoun reaped the benefits of an aggressive defense and now is considered a 'playmaker'.
Staee show no team respect, and it works for them. M shows teams too much respect and it hurts them.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
They have a culture of toughness, confidence, and rock solid technique in that program.
...or they're all on roids.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
MSU is loaded with seniors and guys recruited specifically for their schemes. Will people please stop comparing the two programs? UM is only in its third season under a guy who won a NT as a DC. Give him time.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:22 PM ^
Jim Hermann is the new HC at Michigan? No shit?
December 7th, 2013 at 9:24 PM ^
I know it isn't the fairest thing but I get frustrated because the seniors on M's squad have been with this staff for 3 years and they still aren't aggressive a lick. Staee has 6 seniors, M has 3 so you're partly right there but it shouldn't be a massive deal. Waynes is young, Calhoun is young, Davis is young, the other safety (Not Lewis, not Drummond) is young.

Hoke was not DC
December 7th, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
and I hope Borges and Hoke watched the Auburn/Missouri game. That was the way offense was meant to be.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:16 PM ^
You cannot watch MSU defense and not want that for UM. It also shows how far we are from that.

No its not maybe a couple of guys out of the secondary. Its at least 2 and one is Dennard who they will not be able to replace. Plus at least 2 LBs and 2 D-lineman.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:20 PM ^
It really doesnt matter. Their big losses are MLB with Max Bullough and their corner Dennard. Look at Ed Davis, he was all over the place vs UM and tonight. He is not even a starter at LB. He is a class of 2011 3 star and already might be their 3rd best LB. Their staff just finds the right athletes and molds them. THey will still be a top 10 defense next year, it wont be this dominant but it will be just like their 2011 and 2012 defenses.

Bullough, Allen, Hoover, Lewis, and Dennard (I think one other DL) are all losses, but they've shown they can reload.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:25 PM ^
S Isaiah Lewis
LB Max Bullough
LB Denicos Allen
DT Tyler Hoover
NT Micajah Reynolds
December 7th, 2013 at 9:30 PM ^
Dennard is a guy they will not be a able to replace. He will be a huge loss. As far as that reload theory, look how that went for LSU this year. 1 good year doesn't change everything. Especially when you are losing all of your best players.

Don't forget that Danonio's D didn't catch fire until his 4th year and even then it's gotten better and better. Our D will get to this level.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
I remember. We were in the same thread about 6 weeks ago. I think it was around the UConn game. They are building the Wisconsin of Michigan.

Overreacting to one year is crazy. So no its not pretty clear that is the case at all. Especially after going 7-6 the year before and agains ta historically bad Big10. One year ago Auburn looked light years behind the entire SEC as did Missouri.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
Probably turned the bench to get the D to focus on the coach

Ohio might want to consider warming up Guiton if Miller doesn't get it together.

I'd like to see them consider warming up the bus instead.

Ref was there. Shouldn't overturn, but will the Delaney conspiracy hold?
December 7th, 2013 at 9:23 PM ^
No way you can overturn that. Inconclusive.
December 7th, 2013 at 9:23 PM ^
Of course, a balanced defense and offense is best. But I love defense, and believe that Mattison will have Michigan there soon enough. You know, neither Mattison nor Hoke have been very effusive in praise of Michigan's defense. They both know we have a long way to go. We're heading in the right direction, but aren't there yet. Every year we're getting closer.
I also completely agree with Salvatore: patience is a virtue and it took MSU time to get to where they are today. Giving Mattison (and Borges, for that matter,) time to get their players in place and have the right depth and the right players for what you want to do is critical.

Cut the doom and gloom. One year ago we were 8-5 to their 7-6. The year before that both teams won 11 games. One season doesn't change everything.
