I agree that they will be in good shape talent wise for the next 2-3 years and should have great opportunities in that time but my thinking is that they need to act like this is the only year because it's hard to predict future performance.

The Nationals after shutting Strasburg down last year thought there would be more opportunities but they are currently below .500 and may not even make the playoffs. Baseball is weird and for all I know the Tigers could tank next year even though the paper looks good.

question is can they keep the pitching staff somewhat intact.  Cabrera will be negotiating a big extension after the season, it will put  A LOT of pressure on the Tigers to reduce some payroll.  Fister and Sanchez might have great trade value.  Porcello maybe a little, and they are going to lose some bullpen guys no doubt and with their salary expenditures signing good relievers could be an issue.

I believe Austin Jackson and Max are arbitration eligible, they'll both be due big raises I would think.

The other thinking is that Cleveland and Kansas City are getting better, the window may be closing for dominating the Central Division.  We'll see, I agree with the 'Tigers should be good for awhile' crowd though.

Sucks for PEralta but how is that Iglesias kid? Tigers traded for him for him to fill the gap. Good luck to him

Can't wait for this talk to go away, baseball is one of my favorite sports and I hate seeing it captivated by negative headlines like this all day. Baseball is a lot more positive than this.

Braun cheats and lies: "Screw that guy! He should be banned for life!!!"

Jhonny cheats and lies: "Can't wait to have him back for the playoffs!!!"

I don't get why they are being treated differently. Screw them both. No room for cheaters in this game.

Braun got caught, maintained his innocence and went hard after the people who accused him/were involved in the positive tests. He got his original suspension revoked, signed a huge new deal with a small-market team, and then got caught again. So not only did he cheat, but he lied about and profited off of it, all while handicapping his team. Peralta, as far as we know, did none of that except the original transgression. I think the cases are quite different.

which is an understandable reaction, but I bet the Tigers organization will save room for him on the playoff roster. They really need his bat come postseason and their window is closing rapidly with a lot of key players' contract coming up especially with AJax and Max arbitration deadline looming.

Because it contains a quote from Peralta himself, I will post a quote from a certain paper here. For what it is worth and in the event anyone wants to know what he said, in Jhonny's message to fans, you can find:

“In spring of 2012, I made a terrible mistake that I deeply regret. I apologize to everyone that I have hurt as a result of my mistake, including my teammates, the Tigers’ organization, the great fans in Detroit, Major League Baseball, and my family. I take full responsibility for my actions, have no excuses for my lapse in judgment, and I accept my suspension. I love the fans, my teammates and this organization, and my greatest punishment is knowing that I have let so many good people down. I promise to do everything possible to try and earn back the respect that I have lost.”
