Moderator Action Sticky
Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.
You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.
This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.
NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Seth or Brian may be able to address this further but I know that I and JGB do our best to keep things as "professional" as possible. This is a discussion board, though, and the community is full of all sorts of characters - from those who only post in .gifs (one of my favorites) to those that only log in to troll. Its not all that much different from society in general but for the fact that the love of Michigan sports unites us all.
I think a bit of what annoys you will always be present in the Board (on any other website and in any society in general) but all the moderators definitely do our best to make all members feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. I, for one, am quick to jump on personal attackers and let them know what they are doing is not welcome here. It doesn't win me many admirers, I fear, but hopefully the victims appreciate it and the Board as a whole respects that we're keeping the site as member-friendly as possible.
(P.S. Don't think twice about the ratings your comments get. Unless looking back you see yourself truly being a troll or flamer, I think you can rest easily knowing that your good point was made and digested in general. Sometimes the posts that get the most negative feedback are the ones that people need to read the most. Shrewd readers know this and actually seek out the lowest rated comments in threads.)

The board has been exceedingly bad the last few weeks. Freep links, jewel heists stories, random 5-stars announcements, etc. The best article thing this week other than the Ace/Seth/Brian material was the Ramzy link. That's a weak week on mgoblog.

We appreciate your feedback. Sounds to be more of a lack of material in general than poor moderating work to me but we'll keep working hard.

I just put up like 1200 words about a guy getting hit in the groin.
February 21st, 2013 at 2:37 PM ^
BiSB it is funny and related to current sports though - specifically two of our biggest basketball foes.
When there is national OT news or whatever that affects a lot of users that's one thing, but if the jewel heist thread is ok, then what isn't ok besides politics and religion? Hell I'm going to go get random stories off of AOL and start posting links in new threads.
I know I sound like an old curmudgeon but there is OT stuff, and then there is OT stuff. I'll stop bitching now. Have a nice day.

Any chance a mod could reach out to clearEyesFullHart and provide him with my email address? He offered to send some mgohandmedowns on my HELLO post for the twins, but I have no real way to contact him. My email is miami nemo at gmail dot com ....
February 22nd, 2013 at 11:08 AM ^
but I tried to get your email into his inbox and was rejected. I'm going to need him to give an alternate email or let me know about some setting that I may have triggered to get my email bounced back before I can do anything else, sorry.
February 22nd, 2013 at 3:26 PM ^
Thanks for trying. I'm holding out hope I'll catch him in a live blog or something.
Sorry on the slow response - thats life with newborn twins. When they sleep, you dive in bed and sleep too, otherwise you never will!

Gorram Columbus radio station saying they got a rumor from MGo so I'm killing this thread. In the future make sure to write "Rumor: " or "Completely Unverified Rumor:" or "Just Speculating, What If..." so that stupid people who browse our message boards for news fodder don't mistake us missing a badly titled thread for tacit approval of a rumor.

Moved it to the drinking/open thread.

Generally speaking, Tweets not providing new information do not make good threads.

Dropped to the board. A snowflakey thing that wasn't up to the standards of a diary.

OT: Put your couches inside your double-wides Buckeye fans... Sparty is about to go down! EDIT: Light 'em up, Sparty goes down!
This isn't meant to discourage future discussion of the Big Ten title hunt or the implications of MSU losing to OSU, but the OP fit better in the MBB open thread. On top of that, the title, OP and comments were all a mess to varying degrees and didn't look salvageable. If someone wants to make a new thread without trying to get cute with nicknames for opposing coaches and then flaming the comments, go for it.

Double.
February 26th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
I'm generally a first-in-time, first-in-right kind of guy but the second thread has more comments in it now. Sorry I didn't get to it sooner but you'll be remembered as the first poster of this news.

Technical difficulties + creating a thread before the result is known = deleting in this case.

New Rule I: Thefts of porn with a combined value of less than $10,000 will not be posted to the MGoBoard.
New Rule II: Disregard "New Rule I". Thefts of porn worth any amount of money will not make an otherwise unallowable post allowable.
February 27th, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
New Rule III: Any post with "don't give no" in the title will not be allowed.
New Rule IV: Add "might could" to the list of unacceptable titles as well.

if I ever make another _ Night Open Thread I'll title it: "It's _ night and I don't give no damn; I might could drink 'all the beers in Muncie'!"

Nope. Snowflakes need to stay in the snowflake threads.

This memorandum shall serve as a formal request for enhanced moderator powers to include, but not be limited to, the ability to transmit viruses to the computers of flamers and trolls that participate in open threads and post-game loss threads. The display of numerous posters last night was both embarrassing and infuriating. TWIS would have been salivating. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I posit that people cannot be held responsible for the things they write in a basketball thread while giving Penn State its only Big Ten win of the season, or immediately after. If they go racist or homophobe ban them forever, otherwise just keep it contained within the disaster area.
You can always lock the thread and hide the messages late at night after they'll all spent their anger.
We lost to Penn State? PENN STATE???
I GIVE UP FIRE BEILEIN FIRE STAUSKAS FIRE MAIZE FIRE EVERYONE. I BLAME THE GAYS AND THE ARMENIANS AND THE TRADE UNIONISTS AND THE REPUBLICANS AND OBAMA.
ALSO, FIRE SETH AND PGB!!!!!
Only the Gay Republican Armenians who are trade unionists who voted for Obama.
Of which Seth and PGB just might be....
I am NOT Armenian!
I must have missed something in that "no fllyovers" thread. Sorry about that, ZL.
Oh, no worries. I was just checking to see what I missed after participating early on. I haven't been reading very closely these days . . .
Already have a posbang thread.
We already have two snowflake threads, a posbang thread and a front page Muppets post.
Just cave those sorts of things (not Boliviate) unless you know the reader to be a longstanding contributor who just got excited one night or something.
BTW if people ever want a t-shirt to be made we do take requests on those.
Or do you mean delete the thread? The OP had a few thousand points and has been around longer than I have (and is a name I recognized), so I thought that was probably enough of a reminder.
While I'm replying to you, do you want to take a quick look at a complaint in this thread about a new username (HokeNchange)? I don't think there's much of an issue since we've had Hoke parodies on the Fairly poster as icons without a problem, but some direction from the top might help.
I would buy a shirt that says (Score: 5 Normal)
Batman doesn't wear hockey pants
Says you.
Double...
Left it up last night so those watching could talk about it, but Kate Upton threads should be restricted to Michigan related "news".
OT: You have no shot at Kate Upton. But...
Ditto.
Again.
Keep up the good work; this is getting extremely childish around here.
yES.
Ten comments in and we have the first partisan post, which is to be expected when the OP just states the factors he believes would affect DB's decision to (re)enter public life along with a potential list of candidates on the other side of the isle. The next time we have a "Brandon to Senate" thread will be when one can contain substantial news relating to Mr. Brandon and an open Senate seat.
This would make a good thread on a state political board or one with an interest in national Republican politics, but definitely violates both the letter and spirit of the "no politics" rule.
"Why does calling OSU "Ohio" infuriate Sparty more than OSU fans?"
The mention of Mike Valenti aside for a second, it is probably a bit too offtopic to have a thread speculating about the word association schema of the average Spartan fan. More to the point, the number of people on this blog who care about how Mike Valenti or posters on Spartan blogs react to things is, perhaps unsurprisingly, extremely low.
That was not going well.
