I hope the BCS is happy with this game.  NIU had a nice little season, but they are not Boise St., and FSU isn't going to give them a break.  This might be the most lopsided bowl game of the day, and we already had Purdue-OkieSt.

Northern Illinois being aggressive here - really liked the fake punt call, and, yikes, can Tommylee Lewis run....

...the result of this drive is an FG, but if nothing else, the Huskies are willing to attempt to get into FSU's head.

Surely not in this game, but in general. I can see a casual fan turning on a game and rooting for Michigan because they like the uniforms (usually), or the history...or rooting against us. I can see Bama having fans from the south, or the tradition. A Texas. A USC if only for the song girls. But does anyone just say "I have no dog in this fight; Go FSU!" They just seem tailor made to be villains rather than heroes.

I also remember espn playing up the FSU to NC game pretty hard preseason. Out of like 4or 5 "analysts" FSU had the most votes to make the game over any other team. Sadly I remember Desmond saying FSU would go the distance. Anyways what I'm trying to get at is this game would make FSU such a laughingstock if they lose. Orange bowl rep doesn't think NIU belongs here and herbie saying Georgia or Florida deserved it more is just icing on the cake. IMO I completely agree with you and the whole FSU preseason hype just gives them more of a reason for people to whisper in the wings, "I want to see how far you can fall."

It may not seem like NIU can win this game right now, but the longer they hang around like this, the better their chances are of pulling off this upset. FSU is very good at this. May be best in the country.

One of the more intriguing stats at this point in the game - Florida State has nearly 250 yards of offense, with about 160 of those being in the air by my estimate, and they have 7 points to show for it. Northern Illinois might just reach 100 yards of offense on this drive - they are at 95 yards right now.

Further, it's also somewhat interesting to imagine a team that managed 328 yards of offense in the first half being 1 for 7 on third down conversions, and yet it has happened. Of course, NIU is 0 for 8 in that regard with about a third of the yardage.

Florida State's offense is hard to watch and it's hard to figure out what their plan is. It looks as if they just put their plays in a hat and randomly pull them out one by one. I have no idea why they don't just line up and run over NIU, and mix in play action to take shots deep. Not impressed.
