Iowa sophomore running back De’Andre Johnson was charged with eluding on Saturday just two days after being cited for a disorderly house.
According to the University Heights Police Department Johnson, 20, was pulled over on his motorcycle shortly after 9 p.m. after initially failing to stop after speeding away from a red light.
The police report said that Johnson pulled out of his driveway and was waiting at the red light at Benton/Sunset intersection, and “rapidly accelerated.”
He was locked in at 60 mph in a 25 zone and the police “activated top lights and sirens. Defendant continued to gain distance.”
Johnson finally pulled into 1018 W. Benton and parked his motorcycle behind a vehicle in the grass. The report said Johnson said his friend lived at the address but no friend “Jake” was every found.
Johnson is being charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a mandatory fine of at least $315 but not more than $1,875.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz released a statement Sunday afternoon: “I was very disappointed to learn of the situation involving De’Andre Johnson Saturday evening. As a result, De’Andre has been suspended immediately from all team activities.”
Beat Iowa!
Johnson was ticketed by Iowa City police for maintaining a disorderly houseI have a couple of ex-girlfriends who would be in major trouble there...
Am I the only one who pronounces it "Airbag"?
Thanks a lot.
you are not alone
EDIT: that hyperlink isn't showing up very well, but click on 'not alone'
This should be mandatory reading. AIRBAG it is.
Are they starting to recruit RB in the same numbers that teams recruit OL? If not, they should probably start.
It was bad enough that I had to work with half of Iowa's two-deep for analyzing Big Ten RBs for my next diary (Canzeri being out with his ACL tear), but Johnson's suspension eliminates the other half of it. I will choose randomly between the two redshirt sophomores and the two walk-ons, which is the same method Iowa will use when choosing a starter.
I guess AIRBHG also hates Big Ten roster analysis diaries!
Yes, but ABTRADHG is too much of a mouthful
That's what she said.
Top100 2014 RB Jeff Jones tells me he may possibly be the missing piece to Iowa's offense. Talks #Hawkeyes visit here. http://bit.ly/OqQ12G
I laughed out loud at this. There are two many witty comments for me to choose from so I'll just leave it here.
Iowa does have good news for their backfield in that incoming Freshman Greg Garmon RB, who was arrested back in June, will not be suspended by Ferentz. (He was arrested for possession of marijuana. He will face discipline)
That could mean anything from NOTHING to having to lift weights until you are forced into the hospital.
It's a distinct possibility that he was "eluding" because he didn't realize the police were behind him. It happened to me and my brother when we were teens, driving a 1973 Vega, of all things. The local police had some crap car with a top speed of something like 85-90 mph and we were leaving them in our dust. We ended up with a whole lot of police from 3 different jurisdictions pulling us over. We honestly did not know there was some police officer way behind us who couldn't keep up with a used Vega. We were definitely speeding, but we were not eluding in any intentional way.
The police report said that Johnson pulled out of his driveway and was waiting at the red light at Benton/Sunset intersection, and “rapidly accelerated.
He should have just explained, "Sorry, officer. I was being chased by AIRBHG, so I was trying to get away." He would have gotten a police escort.
His summer vacation in Ann Arbor, MI and Alliance, OH was a bit of a disaster.
Has anyone ever watched one of their games and actually got intrigued by what they do?
