Champaign NFTC - Jake Butt, Jourdan Lewis, Laquon Treadwell
The Nike Illinois NFTC is currently underway. Campers of interest include 2013 verbal commits TE Jake Butt, and CB Jourdan Lewis, as well as target WR Laquon Treadwell (and former target RB Ty Isaac).
Information, interviews, and videos from these camps tend to trickle out over hours to days... thought I would create a thread for them to be posted.
Some updates can be found here:
you posted this just before me. Well done.
Didn't realize it was a competition. I was just surprised I couldn't find mention of today's camp anywhere when previous ones have been typically covered with multiple threads...
You will soon find out that creating a new thread on the same topic is a fatal mistake on Mgoboard.
2014 notables there: DT Brandon Hines, DT Enoch Smith, LB Gelen Robinson (brother of Glenn Robinson III), LB Clifton Garrett, LB Nyles Morgan, OL Jamarco Jones, OL Ross Pierschbacher
Laquon Treadwell beats potential future #Michigan teammate Jourdan Lewis in 1 on 1s #goblue
#NFTC coaches are raving about WR Laquon Treadwell. He does everything at an elite level as well as being a natural leader.
Josh Helmholdt @JoshHelmholdt
Ty Isaac and Laquon Treadwell out here living up to their billing. Both standing out among a deep group
2014 Chicago LB Clifton Garret is the truth. Little raw but impressive physical specimen
Michigan CB commit @jourdanJD with a leaping interception in the end zone during offense vs defense. Solid man coverage on a go route
Michigan TE commit @bigjakeyb_1 one of most physically impressive guys at NFTC Illinois. Even Ohio people I've talked with admit he's good
but it doesn't look like he made it. David Dawson and LTT both attended the Columbus NFTC so I'm not surprised they are not there. Chris Fox lives in CO so it may be too expensive to travel to these events, but he is supposedly attending the Rivals 100 5 Star Challenge at the end of the month so it's not like he won't be camping against some of the best at some point this summer.
Guess you can't camp every weekend when you're......ENROLLING EARLY
Sometimes we forget that these are just kids and some are trying to do some extraordinary things. Trying to graduate early from HS to early enroll while preparing/training for football during your summer break probably stretches a 17 year old pretty thin.
I would much rather have Kyle Bosch, LTT, and possibly Dawson early enroll than attend a bunch of summer camps. Getting in early with MIchigan S&C would be huge for OL development.
It looks like Fox attended a different camp this weekend. Update from twitter yesterday:
Football University @FBUexperience
@ArmyAllAmerican and #GoBlue commit, Chris Fox, dominating this weekend at #FBUDenver
#GoBlue recruit Chris Fox shows off his footwork at #FBUDenver http://yfrog.us/n79rdz
Thanks for all the updates, people. Much appreciated.
Lewis and Treadwell got their invites.
Disappointing to see Jake Butt not get an invite today, but it sounds like he showed well at the camp. Surprised that no OL got an invite considering highly rated ND commits Steve Elmer and Colin McGovern were there.
Hopefully some of our other commits will get some of the final Opening invites when they go out in the next week or two:
QB Danny Etling - Purdue
RB Ezekiel Elliott - Ohio
WR Laquon Treadwell
OL Ross Pierschbacher (2014)
DL Elijah Daniel
LB Reggie Spearman
DB Keelon Bookins - Minnesota
I still don't understand how the positional MVP doesn't get the invite. If it's not related to just this camp, then why announce right at the end?
Lewis deserved an invite, but I thought it should have already come at the Columbus NFTC.
It seems to me that sometimes they give the MVP to the person that comes out and surprises them with their skill. Maybe Lewis outperformed him but he was expected too. Keelon came out and opened everyones eyes a little though.
it seems like sometimes they won't give the big name recruits and commits to high profile schools invites, regardless of MVPs. I'm sure it's just to make sure The Opening draws enough interested viewers from the biggest markets, but it's an interesting inconsistency
Guy above me got it.
RT @TheOpening2012 5 new invitees to #THEOPENING from #NFTC - Ty Isaac, Ezekiel Elliott, LaQuon Treadwell, Elijah Daniel & Jourdan Lewis
Congrats to Lewis on getting the invite.
