Terrelle Pryor on Improper Benefits - "I felt like I was doing God's work."

Submitted by Michael Scarn on

Well, um, I'm not sure what to say other than to quote and link this article.  Terrelle Pryor details the story of selling his Gold Pants for $3,000, money he says he used to pay his Mom's rent and heat bills.

Whenever I write my book the proof will be in there, the receipt that the money I gave my mother was to pay the electric and heat bill. The truth is going to come out one day when the time is right. I don't think I deserved (being punished) in that way, because of the reason I was doing it. I felt like I was doing God's work in a way, and I was getting driven into the ground.

Strangely, he mentions nothing about tattoos, loaner cars, etc.  Some people are just crazy enough to believe their own nonsense.

If a guy steals bread to feed his starving family, that's cool with me. But if a guy steals a bunch of money, uses a small portion to feed his starving family, and blows the rest on tats and cars, he gets a lot less sympathy.

and scanning the NCAA report, none of the gold pants sold fetched $3000.  If TP was supposed to be a senior this year, 2011-2012, then his freshman year was 2008-2009.  Gold pants aren't given out until well after The Game, and likely well after the cold of November/December/January.

Columbus sports radio had a field day with this today.

Any chance this turns into more sanctions for OSU?  Someone correct me if I'm wrong but TP left OSU in lieu of speaking to the NCAA about his transgressions, so none of this was taken into account when handing down sanctions other than the tattoo trading, right?

That's all I can say. He's spinning his tale to make himself look better.

He sold his stuff to keep his mom and sister from freezing and to pay the mortgage. That's wonderful, I applaud him for that. Question is how did they come up with money for the cars, to replace the engine in the Charger and the tats? That's the probelm Terrelle, you lived the high life all while claiming to be caring for your family. Maybe it was your lifestyle that caused mom not to be able to make the mortgage, ever think of that?

I love how "the truth will come out one day when the time is right."  As if, if the truth really were that he was only helping his poor starving family, there would ever be a wrong time for that.  The actual truth is the time will be right when people have forgotten what a selfish asshole he's been, forgotten about the brand new Nissan and the other cars and the diamond studs and the tattoos and the lying, and then he can spin whatever he likes.  "The time is right" is just another way this slimy weasel has of hoodwinking people.

What a moron (but we all knew that when he chose OSU) Just shut your pie hole fool nobody cares and you are not getting a dime of my hard earned money, so I can read a fictional tell all book..... spare me. He is still so immature that he would say this now. Maybe when he grows up and we all do, he will just LET IT GO, take his money (not mine) and run.

What's really great here is that, over on ESPN, there are currently over 5,000 comments about Terrelle Pryor, THE Ohio State University, NCAA violations, investigation, scandal, cheating, and improper benefits.  Isn't life grand?

My local paper (Quad-City Times (Iowa)) omitted the part about "... doing God's work" this morning.

Dude's dirty and the program was dirty... Why should we wait for the truth to come out?!? Just tell us, Terrelle!
