Did you catch the Yellow Mamba sign they showed right before a commercial break? That was pretty funny.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 PM ^
Yeah, that was easily the best sign of the night (and there were a ton). What a great game, and that kid looks way too good.

His story is incredible, and he is probably the smartest person in the entire league. You can't help but rooting for him, I just want to see his numbers once Carmelo ball hog Anthony comes back.
EDIT: To answer your question about Darius, Steve Blake came back tonight and he is back to his role as the back-up point guard, but even with him out Darius was fighting for minutes against fellow rookie Andrew Goudelock. Not looking too good for him.
EDIT 2: Just found this, SIAP but story of Darius Morris getting Hazed, kind of funny, also kind of sad.
February 11th, 2012 at 2:58 AM ^
Can't decide who's more awkward on camera, Darius Morris or that reporter. Since the reporter is kind of attractive, probably going to have to say DMo is more awkward.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:13 PM ^
Bad News: neither Amar'e or Carmelo will play
Good News: Jeremy Lin is a boss. And I am way more excited to see him play than either of the other two.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:18 PM ^
Linsanity vs. Rubio. That should be a crazy awesome PG/hype battle.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
Darius isn't hurt; Steve Blake just returned from injury and Darius is out of the rotation. He has been beat out for the last guard spot by fellow 2nd rounder Andrew Goudelock. While Goudelock isn't quite the PG, he has shot the ball better than Darius. Wish him the best of luck, but he has to jump some people if he wants to get out of street clothes.

Good Lord, Kobe is such an ass.

February 11th, 2012 at 2:10 AM ^
Why is he an ass? Lin started out in the D-league this season and blew up this past week and the Lakers are on a 6 game road trip.
Reporter: Since you obviously sit around and watch ESPN all day and night, do you know who this guy who's had 4 good games is?
Kobe: Naw man, not really.
Dudes are playing back-back-back games right now. I guess he missed the memo?
I mean he probably legit didn't know. People want to make a fuss because they like to hate on Kobe.
February 11th, 2012 at 2:39 AM ^
Yeah, I mean, why would Kobe know anything about the team he was playing that night? He was probably gearing up to face Melo and Stoudamire because why would he know who the starting lineup was of his competition? He has been on the road for a whole 6 games and we know there are no newspapers or TV while you are on the road.
Kobe knows who Lin is. All he would have to do is be awake when he is not playing basketball the past week and he would know who Lin is. It is much easier to call Kobe an asshole when he completely disses the guy and laughs about it right before said guy demolishes the Lakers single handedly.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:56 PM ^
He watched gametape I'm sure but it doesn't mean he knew about the stardom.
February 11th, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
Just because he was on the road doesn't mean he is in a bubble. Lin has been everywhere in the sports world. If Kobe had watched game tape, he probably wouldn't have been "so surprised" when he was told Lin was averaging 25 and 8. He probably wouldn't have laughed at the notion that Lin was good enough for the almighty Kobe to guard. Kobe had to know who Lin was, game tape or not. He was just being an ass.
February 11th, 2012 at 7:15 AM ^
I think it was Kobe's answer to guarding him and he said lets not get ahead of ourselves. It was at the end of ther interview.
February 11th, 2012 at 8:45 AM ^
Exactly.
February 11th, 2012 at 8:52 AM ^
Yeah, I don't think Kobe was trying to be a jerk there. It sounded like he really didn't know what Lin had done.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:32 AM ^
To Kobe's credit, these were his postgame comments last night...
“I think it’s a great story,” Bryant said. “It’s a testament to perseverance and hard work, and I think a good example for kids everywhere.”
February 11th, 2012 at 10:04 PM ^
Just great? Why didn't he say phenominal? What a jackass.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 PM ^
Yeah Jeremy Lin is freakin' great, he single-handedly made me remember that the NBA exists!
February 10th, 2012 at 11:18 PM ^
Amaker had some talent at Michigan, and this kid from Harvard has taken off further in the NBA than anyone from the Amaker Michigan years. Sigh...
February 10th, 2012 at 11:23 PM ^
This guy was still available in one of my leagues. Just snagged him. Wow.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:31 PM ^
are hoping that Melo will be out for a while longer. He's a ball stopper and may not mesh well with Lin. Amare and Chandler would be perfect in pick and roll stiuation especially if Amare can finish around the rim. Maybe we will see the Knicks goes small with Amare at center and just run pick and roll with Lin/Amare to death.

Legend In New York.... ' no longer sleeping on his brother's couch ' ... mvp chants broke out in the garden tonight........

Jeremy Lin (Harvard) and Landry Fields (Stanford) with nerdiest handshake in NBA.
The skit features the two skimming through an imaginary book, taking off their glasses and then placing them inside pocket protectors.

Is that what that was? Jeebus.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:13 AM ^
Aside from being better at basketball than Kobe Bryant, he probably just got Jason Whitlock fired:
Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight.

Twat.
As in, he just twatted his carreer away.
February 11th, 2012 at 1:21 AM ^
This turd has been able to get away with shit like this because he plays the reverse racism card very well. He knows he can speak his mind and get away with it while people like Imus and Limbaugh get raked over the coals. Before anybody gets upset says I am a racist, I am an African American that finds his race baiting behavior deplorable.

Here's how you embed videos
(1) Right click and copy the embed html of the video on youtube or whatever website you find it on, NOT the url.
(2) Switch to plain text editor and paste the embed html.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:21 AM ^
I know how to embed videos. It didn't work last night when I tried it. I would embed it and it would just come back as a blank post. I went to an embed site to see if it worked there and it gave me a quicktime error or something.

Just made a completely stupid fantasy basketball move to pick this kid up.

I took a flier on him after his first game and let's just say it has paid off.

I've been obsessively following this kid since he was a Junior at Harvard (Yes, I am Asian-American as well haha). Lin has a great story; he took a previously unknown Palo Alto basketball program to a state championship over powerhouse Mater Dei, winning POY recognition along the way.
Even with his success in high school Lin didn't get recruited by any major D1 school. One coach anonymously said that if Lin were any other race, his school would've offered him a scholarship. So Lin took himself and his 4.2 GPA to play for Harvard without an athletic scholarship. Jeremy has a dominating 4-year career in the Ivy League (especially the last two years) where he dropped 27 pts on #17 BC and 30 pts on Kemba Walker and #12 UConn.
Hoping to get drafted late 2nd round, Lin started working out all over the league and was even promised a pick by 4-5 teams. Alas, the 2010 draft rolls around and no team pick him up. The Mavs GM called him immediately afterwards and offered him a Summer League position. Lin plays decently all month, but he didn't start getting league-wide recognition until he goes head-to-head against #1 overall pick, John Wall and does extremely well against him. Four teams offer him a contract after that, and he ultimately chooses his hometown Warriors.
Warriors don't use him too much all season because they have Curry and Ellis, so they cut him at the beginning of this season to make salary cap space. The Rockets pick him up, but cut him like two weeks later to make roster space for Dalembert. Finally the Knicks pick him as an insurance PG since the position was riddled with injury, they planned to cut him once Baron Davis or before the waive date (02/07/12). The Knicks go through a 2-11 slump and D'Antoni decides to throw Lin in earlier than normal (getting 5-10 of garbage time before this) as a desperation move... and then the rest is history.
Lin is a super nice kid, had friends that attended InterVarsity (a campus ministry) with him at Harvard they said he was always smiling and never made anyone upset. He promised his parents that if he didn't get a long-term contract in the NBA within 2 years he would stop pursuing it (phew! close call haha). His other goal is to become a youth minister if basketball didn't pan out.
Summary: From not getting a D1 scholarship, not being drafted, being cut by two teams to having his named chanted in Madison Square Garden... and now getting talked about with Kobe and Lebron. Keep rising.
February 11th, 2012 at 5:45 AM ^
I watch him play and his rise looks to be the living embodiment of the trash the NBA has become. Guys like this don't get looked at in a league obsessed with youth, athleticism, and "potential". He's an all around player with a fully mature and developed game. He plays a style that is fun to watch and understands how his game fits into the winning objective every night.
Example close to home: We all love Darius and Darius was great for Michigan, but he got enticed to the NBA early by scouting reports talking about uncommon physical skills (size/ speed for a guard). The NBA thought it could mold him into a cyborg freak big tall point guard. He didn't get drafted becuase he had a polished all-around elite game or understood winning. Burke is closer to having that actually. But since Burke is perceived to have a smaller upside physically in the NBA's view, he's less of a prospect.
That's the mindset that sends guys like Lin to the scrap heap. It's a shame, because more Jeremy Lin type players makes the NBA actually watchable.

Ok this is just inaccurate on a number of levels. For one, the assertion that players, particularly point guards, in the NBA don't have "developed" games is ridiculous. The NBA is loaded with loaded with point guard talent right now, and to suggest that Chris Paul and Deron Williams aren't "developed" is nonsensical.
For two, I wouldn't even consider Jeremy LIn an "all-around" player. I want to take nothing away from his accomplishments because what he is doing is truly sensational, but dude has flaws. He shot well this past game, but he has a funky shot and it remains to be seen whether or not he can be a consistent jump shooter. He gets most of his points via penetration to his right, and is definitely not ambidextrous yet.
He also very much relies on his size and athleticism. He's not Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook, but he's also much bouncier than say, Steph Curry and way stronger than a Nash. His 6-3 200 frame allows him to absorb contact in the lane and he has the hangtime and strength to finish tough layups. D-Mo has the size but is not as quick or athletic as Lin (and is even more right-dominated).
In conclusion, Lin is plenty fun to watch, and so far looks to be an excellent player, but he's not really a revelation stylistically, and shouldn't be used to bash the NBA.
