OT- NFL/Lions Open Thread
The board seems pretty slow today so I was hoping we could have an all encompassing NFL games thread. If not it can solely be devoted to Lions-Raiders at 4. Hopefully we pull out another win on our way to a playoff berth.
Right now the Chiefs are beating the undefeated Packers 6-0 in the third quarter. If GB loses this game, there is a pretty good chance they rest starters against the Lions in week 17.
Bears are beating Seattle 14-7, about to start the second half.
A certain heavily-covered game should be on CBS in most markets, starting at 4:15. Please discuss it in a reasonable way. No reason to bring up anything but on-field play. Please prove we can have nice things.
Who's watching football today?

Bears Seahawks has been painful to watch so far. Love both teams' defenses but this is truly some of the worst offensive football I've watched all year.
December 18th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
We really need the seahawks to win. If the Bears lose all we have to do is win one of our last 3 games and we will probably be in the playoffs.
December 18th, 2011 at 2:59 PM ^
If the Bears beat Seattle and we both have the same outcome vs. the Pack (read: we both lose) we'll actually come out with the third tiebreaker, record vs. common opponents. We play the same schedule except for two games. We went 1-1 and they are 1-0 with this Seattle game remaining. So this game isn't as important as it first seems. We just need the Lions to win one less than the Bears. Still, just for insurance, go Seahawks.

Packers pretty quick touchdown strike. 7-6

Colts looking to put a win on the board. Just got a pick 6 to go up 17-6 against titans
December 18th, 2011 at 3:10 PM ^
The only game I get on TV right now is an even-more-ugly-than-expected game between the Bengals and Rams. 6-6. Why doesn't Fox have either of the NFC North games? Isn't it usually the out-of-market network that only gets one game? I guess it's a worthwhile trade if I get Patriots-Broncos out of it but c'mon man. Bengals-Rams? Do their fans even care?
December 18th, 2011 at 10:53 PM ^
CBS had the doubleheader this weekend, so Fox only got to show one game. By rule, in the Detroit market, this had to be the Lions -- thus, Fox wasn't allowed to show Detroit anything at 1pm.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
Is it just me or are other Lion's fans rooting for the Colts to get a win... Not because i know how crappy it feels to be a fan of an 0-16 team but its almost a badge of honor being the only 0-16 team, ever. If the Colts go 0-16 2008 will seem even worse... for me at least.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
Just you, I hope we can pass that stain on.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:31 PM ^
If the Colts had gone 0-16 this year it would've been a tremendous stain on Manning's legacy because more folks would have realized how his egotistical contracts have hollowed out the Colts' roster over the years.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^
or it shows how valuable manning has been to his franchise bringing them to multiple super bowls and 10+ years of playoffs...
December 18th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
Caleb Hanie might be the best thing to happen to the Lions this year.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
Marion Barber likes to lend a hand, too.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
Baas is out, but don't think he's responsible for the drops, porous defense and missed field goal.
Ah, Manningham just made 34-yd catch (commentators: "First big play of the day")!
And then the defender beats Mario for the TD throw. Interception. (Joe Buck: "That was all on Manningham.") Still 23-3 Redskins.
PS: FYI, the major drops weren't Mario

I love when the giants lose. Hated listening to all the New Yorkers talk shit about the lions a couple of years ago

My best friend's brother had great tix (which I got to use occasionally) until the birth of the new stadium required him to pay $30,000 for the rights to the tix he'd had forever. He had to let the tix go, along with his heart. So I'm fine with them making fools of themselves occasionally. Just had them on in the background hoping the M alumni do well.
Bottom Line: No apology necessary. (And now the Jets are playing about as well as the Giants were. Same disclaimer applies.)
December 18th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Sorry. Hope it's the last. At least now I know how it happens.

Oh, no. That looked terrible. Best wishes to him, just awful
December 18th, 2011 at 3:38 PM ^
That did not look good
December 18th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
I hate the Bears but I was standing up clapping when they showed him moving his arms. Just a gruesome-looking hit.

With all the NY kids that go to this school, it's the ultimate schadenfreude when the giants or jets lose... i love it
December 18th, 2011 at 3:21 PM ^
Rams vs. Bengals is the only game on TV right now for me. Not sure who's CLEVER idea this was but I am not amused.
edit: There was just a hilarious moment where a Rams OLineman went up to the ref while his mic was sitll on and said "That's not fucking holding!" for everyone in the stadium and everyone watching on TV to hear

KC up 12-7 on the Packers. Yep, all field goals. It would be such a funny way for The Packers to finally lose if it holds up. Still a pretty big if with 11 minutes left
December 18th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
This movie trailer for the Darkest Hour is really bad. Is anyone planning on seeing it?
December 18th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
Bears are done. Thats a big loss
December 18th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
Seahawks with another touchdown 31-14. Now just hope they can hold out.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Caleb Hanie does not inspire a lot of confidence in a Bears comeback.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
Chiefs score a touchdown. 19-7 with five minutes left. That should be it. Lions playoff chances looking very good.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
We should wait and see if the Lions win first.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
Win one of the next three games? Packers will be fired up next week against the Bears and there's a good chance they rest starters against the Lions. We may not even need to win another game the way the Giants and Bears are playing. One win clinches but seems like it may not be necessary. I think very good is a decent summation of our playoff chances.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
Whos ready for Tebow-Brady?
December 18th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
We are stuck with the crappy Browns against the Cardinals.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
Ouch, now thats a bad game.
December 18th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
Green Bay with a touchdown. 14-19. Let's see if they can preserve their undefeated season.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
Three timeouts and the two minute warning with a passing game that scores quickly, not liking that at all
December 18th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
Game over. Chiefs win
December 18th, 2011 at 4:02 PM ^
At the risk of sparking debate that goes against what I asked in the OP, did anyone else see the SNL Tebow skit? I thought it was hilarious. Jason Sudeikis and whoever played Tebow were both great.

December 18th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
...the Chiefs didn't hire Sylvester Croom....then we could all run around screaming how the Packers just got CROOMED!!!!
December 18th, 2011 at 4:07 PM ^
helps the Lions. With GB not having 16-0 on the line we won't be getting their best shot.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:07 PM ^
Green Bay won't win another game this year, book it
December 18th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
I think they will win a game in the playoffs.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
I say they play hard next week. The Bears are not good without their starting QB/RB (who would be). Home field advantage is still on the line for the Pack. They don't want a losing streak going into the playoffs. They win comfortably next week.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
I didn't know Kevin Smith was back. That could be big for the Lions.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
