OT: Lions So Lucky

Submitted by Ultimate Quizmaster on

They were on their way to a Sparty No! finish, but somehow pulled it out. Joe Webb, what the hell.

I agree with you that Schwartz's team doesn't have discipline, which is a problem.  But you didn't complain about that in your orginal post, which is why you got flamed.  Claiming he has a lack of balls makes no sense.  You wanted us to go for it on fourth and one at the 50 yard line with our terrible short yardage run game, rather than make Minnesota go 80 yards with their backup qb?

And going for the field goal was when we were in the redzone was the right call.  If we get the first down we most likely win, but if we don't then the Vikings kick a tying field goal as time expires.  The game goes into overtime with our offense not doing too well, and their offense doing great.

Every fourth and short - on a team that had been 2-34 in its previous two seasons- was a punt or a field goal. You want to change a team's culture? You go for it.

And no. It's the wrong call. Every time. You don't get it, you're up two scores and they have to go 97 yards. You get the first down, you win. You'd think a big man like Schwartz would want that victory, instead he meekly kicks a field goal to kick off to PERCY HARVIN.

Terrible call. Indefensible.

Well, no. They are 23rd in rushing and second to last on third down conversions. The offense goes into turtle mode too much. The D is overrated and still has some holes. The run d gives up just under five yards a game. There is much room for improvement.

I'm pretty sure most Lion fans know they got lucky today, but it is infinitely better than what the Lions usually have occur to them.

Comparing Michigan football fans and Lions fans are apples and oranges so i wont even argue with you there.

I can't diagree with the "discpline issues" but I have been seeing improvement lately.

The lions have been a second half team all year this year. That is a credit to Schwartz and his ability to win games  We havent had a game truly blown because of coaching all year. Schwartz has pushed all the right buttons this year in crunch time. Punting with 2 mintues left was the right decision and we were inches away from pinning them within the 1. I will take my chances of having a untested QB drive the entire field with the way the D has played this season then putting them on our side of the 50.

what the hell are you talking about?

5-0 was the start of the season.

We're 3-5 since.

We haven't been a second half team over that stretch with the exception of Carolina and possibly New Orleans.

And if by "lately" you mean today....well, that's rich. I guess you missed both the Green Bay and New Orleans games.

This is CBS's week to have the doubleheader, meaning Fox can only show one game in any given market. Around here, obviously that was the Lions.

Another NFL TV rule states that when the local team is on, the other network cannot show a game against it. With the Lions on Fox, CBS wasn't permitted to show the Detroit market any game during the 1:00 time slot. Thus, only the Lions were on during the 1:00 time slot, and only CBS could show a 4:15 game in Detroit.

Well, congratulations to the NFL for a rule that probably cost them some pretty good ratings in this market for the CHI-DEN game.  Between that and the DirecTV monopoly on Sunday Ticket, the NFL's TV rules were written by Cro-Magnons in concert with pants-wetting TV execs petrified of ever losing a point of market share.

Lions are my second favorite sports team (UM football is first) and I'm starting to dislike this team. They gotta get their shit together Amazing defense with 6 turnovers but horrid defense unable to stop Webb. Offense didnt play second half. WTF But... Being pissed after a win? Kinda a great feeling. Expectations are high. First time since the Barry years.

is an avergage NFL QB who happened to get a long run b/c the Lions' secondary went to the concession stand for a play. This is the NFL throwing the Lions a bone after all the horrible calls that have gone against them.

He arm punts when he throws.

Lions defense is so depleted. And they have no running game without Smith and Best. Need to get healthy if they're going to win 2 more, which is what I think they need to get a Wild Card spot.

that is much better hearing than "Terrible". Lucky is better than good and after all the years watching the Lions, this is what is written? They've sucked for many moons and they catch a break at the end, that's good.

Of course, they did stink today, but in the NFL, if you can stink it up most of the game and still get a "W", fantastic. 8-5>2-11

through these comments and I gotta say some are pretty pathetic ...THE LIONS WON,BOTTOM LINE...We have so many injuries and no run game what so ever, yet we're in the playoff hunt...I'll take that..I like the direction this team is going.....And if the Lions are too hard for some of you to watch,Don't !!! I know what this team can and will be when healthy...GO LIONS!!!

I thought for sure the lions were going to lose that game and today we would be talking again about the same old Lions.  Still can't beleive that they weren't called for facemasking on the last play.

Can the tide be turning and it's no longer the same old Lions?
