I am just finishing up the first pot of coffee and, I think, the third episode of Spongebob. It's a typical pre-game Saturday here. I get the TV at noon. They get it now.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:05 AM ^
No kids for me. I am rarely out of bed before 8:00am on Saturday and have been up since about 6:00am. Uncharted territory for me.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:13 AM ^
Spongebob isn't that bad...
My early morning pre-game is pumpkin spice coffee and a healthy mix of blue's clues, dora the explorer and yo gabba gabba.
I can't wait until next week when my pre-game consists of tailgating in Ann Arbor.

I like the one specifically because of Mark Mothersbaugh's presence on it. I love myself some DEVO in the CD collection here.
Later on, we'll likely be switching to "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" and "Pound Puppies", as my daughter can not only tell time already, but has the digital cable schedule memorized.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:19 AM ^
My kids are watching The Simpsons. I know. I'm a bad parent.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:21 AM ^
Among the things I have let the kids watch are episodes of "The Critic", "Mystery Science Theater", various BBC shows - the one that got me in the most trouble was "Father Ted", because for a few days, my son would not stop quoting Father Jack whenever we gave him a drink - "FECK OFF, CUP!"

Most impressive discussion of childrens television I've seen on this blog in a while. Is it bad that I'm 24 and still enjoy Spongebob every once in a while?
November 19th, 2011 at 8:47 AM ^
I am 33 and have pretty much followed it since it first aired in 1999.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:48 AM ^
It's not on anymore, but Drake and Josh was very, very funny. You can still catch reruns on Nick or Nick teen. The first couple of years are the best.

I have a 2 year old at home who loves Elmo and some cartoon with a French name (which escapes me)... Anyway, I turned on the TV at like 5-6pm one night and it was still on Cartoon Network. Let me tell you something - Adventure Time is a freaky cartoon. I know it's not geared towards 2 year olds, but it is still crazy that it is marketed for kids. Oh well, I guess we had Ren and Stimpy when I was growing up...
November 19th, 2011 at 10:03 AM ^
I know a bit about watching a show as an adult that is marketed for kids. Just look at my avatar. I will say, however, that I was sold on the latest incarnation of My Little Pony when I discoverd you could do this with it:

Dedicated Phineas & Ferb fan here and I'm way older than you.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:53 AM ^
Once in a while, my daughter asks to watch that one. That is a pretty excellent show.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
P & T is the way to go. Adults like it too. It's the most watchable of all the kids shows that take over my TV all morning.
How much fun must it be to make that show?
November 19th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
.....at "Doofenshmirtz"
November 19th, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
Pretty much the only show I can handle watching with the kids. I often find myself still watching after they leave the room.
Wifey is out getting a haircut (which I never understand how that takes 4 hours) so I have banished the kids to the basement (8, 6, 3) where they can watch TV and tear shit up while pre-game. Probably not the best dad on football Saturdays but they know the drill.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:21 AM ^
My five year old has just started to come downstairs by herself to turn the TV on in the morning, letting my wife and I sleep in. I still didn't sleep in, our Keurig coffee machine is broke and we haven't received our warranty replacement yet. Phineas and Ferb is on though, it's actually a somewhat funny show

I'm drinking from mine right now. Sorry about your loss, I'm not sure what I'd do. :( Spiced beer?
November 19th, 2011 at 8:13 AM ^
I hear you. Sitting here at the kitchen table with a bowl of cereal, trying to drown out the sounds of "MISKA MOOSKA MICKEY MOUSE..."
November 19th, 2011 at 9:23 AM ^
Tooooooooodles...
November 19th, 2011 at 9:26 AM ^
My son (4) likes that crap too, but during breakfast he likes sportscenter. I have him well trained.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:28 AM ^
My kids will actually watch College Gamday.
"Why are those people painted funny colors?"
November 19th, 2011 at 9:37 AM ^
My daughter thinks every team is the Wolverines.
She asks me why I keep yelling at the Wolverines on TV. I tell her "Because they won't listen!!!" Duh.

We're going back and forth between Backyardigans and Barney on Netflix. Ugg..
November 19th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
I'm so sorry man. Backyardigans is bad enough--fortunately I never had to endure Barney. Someone actually gave our daughter a Barney toy for Christmas one year, and my wife and I intercepted it and donated it to Toys for Tots.
There are two full seasons of Shaun the Sheep on Netflix. It's worth a try to see if that can get you out of hell.

Finishing my pot of coffee now, but sports center is running in the background. I'm going down to Rex's Meat Market with my neighbor to pick up some burger. Bar-B-Que right after the game today. Rex's is in Dearborn...they make the burger for Nemo's.

Go Blue!
November 19th, 2011 at 8:10 AM ^
....which is typically when we're in storm mode, I do try to stop at Rex's.
As for Nemo's, excellent subs. I'll likely be heading to the one here in Romulus tomorrow for my post-"fine, I'll paint the damn hallway" lunch.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:14 AM ^
I mean the burger from the Downtown Nemo's at Michigan and Trunble.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:18 AM ^
I haven't been to Corktown much lately. Forgot about that one. I need to find excuses to make it to meetings downtown more often. Our headquarters are right there basically.

my dogs woke us up early. Catching some EPL soccer. Dreading/looking forward to the days when Dora and Yo Gaba Gaba replace soccer on saturday morning.
Going to head down to Chicago and watch the game with my dad today. Very excited
November 19th, 2011 at 8:31 AM ^
I used to watch EPL games all the time when my son was first born and waking up a 6 am but still not able to watch TV....not so much anymore.

Is anyone else like me and have a stockpile of Oberon mini-kegs for the winter? I can't decide if I want to drink it for the Nebraska game.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:29 AM ^
I live in Wisconsin and have compiled a nice stash of my favorite Octoberfest beer: New Glarus Staghorn.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:03 AM ^
I'm a Madison native and I love New Glarus.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:10 AM ^
yeah New Glarus is about as good as it gets (but i hate spotted cow. godamn tourist beer)... and only $7 a 6-pack. Gotta love Wisconsin.
my grandparents live in New Glarus, we try to visit as often as possible. such a cool little town.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:23 AM ^
Yeah I agree. Spotted Cow is to New Glarus as Oberon is to Bell's or Fat Tire is to New Belgium. Sometimes I miss the microbrew Mecca that is Wisconsin, but actually Indy isn't bad for beer either.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:14 AM ^
I don't think I have ever seen this. Will I be able to find it in M?
November 19th, 2011 at 9:30 AM ^
no. New Glarus is only sold in the state of Wisconsin. The owner of the Brewery decided 10 years ago that he'd rather stay small and focus on quality, so he only sells in Wisconsin now.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
If you were really interested you could a) make a road trip or, b) find a beer forum that does beer trading.
November 19th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
No time like the present.

...working this morning. Wife somehow thinks it will be a good idea to head to my 7th grade daughters (potential) Catholic high school open house at 1:00 p.m. (thank god for the DVR). Yeah, like I'll be listening to anything they're talking about. It's a reputable high school that honestly I already know she'll be in good hands. I get it, I'm a bad parent. #hail!
