OT: OU & Okie State to apply for Pac-12 membership
September 12th, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
Can someone please explain to me the benefits of having 4, 16-team conferences? Other than a four team BCS playoff-type system.
Also, cue up the "TEXAS AND NOTRE DAME TO B10" rumors.

Take everything you read on orangebloods with a grain of salt. They're UT's mouth piece.
September 12th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
Yes, but it's a powerful and mostly accurate mouthpiece

I remember him being "wrong" quite frequently, and only took from the last go around, that whatever he wrote fit Texas' agenda. May be true, may not be, but I'd think Texas has reason to want the story out there (not that I can figure out what it is).
September 12th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
What were they wrong about? They nailed the PAC16 attempt...NU leaving for the big ten...They got that. All I am saying is that we the most powerful power broker in UT is channeling info through OBs, then you need to pay attention bc if you can read thru the lines, you got yourself a story
September 12th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
I thought he was the first to say the Pac 16 was a done deal, even though it was clear from what actually happened, Texas had a greater interest in remaining with what was left of the Big 12.
I agree that whatever he says is important, I'm just not sure it's accurate.

Point taken

That's what UT fans say about MGoBlog.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
But I'm marking the time, just in case we have to fill out a death report for the Big 12ish
September 12th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
Or fill out an application to the Pac-64 ourselves.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
Well, let's roll out the welcome wagon for the North Texas Mean Green.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
But having been to one of their home games, I'll gladly take their women!!
September 12th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
....in the event we need to take the Big 12 out behind the barn and, well, you know. I promise it will be quick.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
Of Mice and Men reference? Because I can totally see the Big 12 as Lennie: a big, dumb oaf with no concept of its own strength.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
That particular book came to mind when I first opened this thread.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
Best part of the article;
"Colorado made the move in June 2010, but when Texas A&M was not on board to go west, the Big 12 came back together with the help of its television partners (ABC/ESPN and Fox)."
Talk about spin. Like anyone outside of Austin actually thinks it was not Texas pulling the strings last year.
September 12th, 2011 at 7:49 PM ^
That's actually accurate. Texas thought the Big XII was too far gone to save and was ready to jump at the Pac-12's offer. A&M balked when the Big XII offered to essentially pay OU, Texas and A&M before the other 7 schools (guaranteeing them $20 million each with some fuzzy math).
September 12th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
Won't this have to all be put on hold until Baylor finishes their lawsuit? Pretty sure the only thing that keeping them from sueing was if OU promised to stay.
I think Texas should just buy up the MWC and turn it into a sham conference so they keep doing whatever the hell they want.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
Will Baylor block their exit from the Big 12 with a suit? If this latest rumor has legs, it's all over for the Big 12.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
Baylor just wants to get PAID. (Or is it PAY'D.)
Baylor will take a healthy cut some way, some how to let all this go down. Then they'll be off to the Big East themselves.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:29 PM ^
Why would the Big East want Baylor? They bring nothing new to the Big East that TCU didn't already.
Baylor is headed to C-USA. Or a new rejects conference plus a few C-USA teams.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
Basketball of course....I kid, I kid
September 12th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
The Big East would want Baylor because it assures all of its teams in the conference at least one game in Texas per year. With only TCU coming in you would only get to play in Texas once every two years. Playing once every year in Texas helps the Big East in recruiting.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
Damn you GERG.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:29 PM ^
Um....if the Big 12 is Lennie, who is Curley's wife?
September 12th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
I'll go with Baylor maybe?
September 12th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
You're typing. Take a moment to gather your thoughts. Really, go ahead. We'll wait.
September 12th, 2011 at 7:21 PM ^
I'm guessing no one ever taught you how to convey voice and tone within your writing.
September 12th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
Lousy UM education...
September 12th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
Since they applied to join th PAC-12, has anyone heard of anything regarding Texas and ND appoaching the B1G? They were talking about it on the radio here in Columbus last week saying that the two schools approached the B1G to talk about joining the conference with Texas possibly joing when the Big 12 dies and ND joing in 2014.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
Wow, well, perhaps people on message boards sometimes like to make references to the fact that they're trying to think, but 2 letters is far easier than a paragraph describing a thought process.
September 12th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
The Big 12 Conference will bbq or mildew depending if the horns hold it together...hello Mizzou?
September 12th, 2011 at 7:14 PM ^
The odd thing is that this comes out on the heels of the Pac-12 commish saying he isn't interested in expansion and hopes every conference sticks at 12.
So lying and really had back room meetings with these two schools or they're trying to call his bluff? Certainly will be interesting to see what he says next.
Meanwhile, Delaney made similar comments but if UT calls him I think he answers the call. No way UT would sit around in a conference with no A&M, OU, or Okla St having already lost Nebraska and Colorado. I get dominating the conference, but that runs the risk of the Big 12 losing their automatic bid. The stuff they would have to peice together would give them a strength of schedule less weaker than the Mountain West in recent years, even worse than the Big East.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Stronger?
September 12th, 2011 at 7:31 PM ^
When you're applying for conference membership, are you basically in already, or could the Pac-12 end up deciding not to bother?
September 12th, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
I doubt you apply unless you're pretty darn certain that you're get in.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
Forbes is reporting the LHN won't prohibit Texas from leaving.
"The bottom line is that the Longhorn Network will not prevent Texas from joining the Pac-12 if that’s what all the parties involved want."
