And it taught me a good lesson in what happens if you talk shit too early. Luckily I was on the right end of that lesson.
True that. Most of my friends ditched me at halftime. I still won't let them forget about it. When we stopped their final 2-point conversion at the end, everyone went crazy and was throwing and high-fiving everyone. I screamed "GO BLUEEEE" at a Badgersheep and got knocked over. It kicked ass.
Top 5 UM game from the last ten years? It cracks mine. I also enjoy:
Washington 2002
Braylon Edwards MSU game
TOUCHDOWN MANNINGHAM PSU game
2008 Capital One Bowl
I could see 2003 OSU replacing one of these five. Even perhaps the Texas Rose Bowl game because of how great a game that was, even if we lost.
Edit: Another one I really enjoyed is thumping ND in 2006 when they were ranked much higher than us. Really hard to make a top five.... the UM/UW game from 2008 probably slides to top 7 or so.
No 1997 osu, 2009, 2010 ND
Well he said in the last 10 years, so that takes out 1997. I agree that the ND games were great, but I like Beavis's list. Thumping them in '06 was almost more fun, especially because it kicked off an amazing season
Unfortunately I will now die five years younger because of the 2009 and 2010 ND games.
All the ones I listed were in an era where a Michigan fan didn't have a fleeting sense of "we're going to F this up". Even the Wiscy game - we were our third game into the RR era, and didn't know just how far we'd fall.
I distinctly remember 2009 ND - being completely hammered and happy, but a tinge of that happiness was because I was scared to death we'd lose.
And the 2010 game sucked. I am sorry. Outside of trhat run by Denard and the final drive. Their QB was hurt in the first half, and we squandered some drives. In the second half, Crist returned and our D went into their hole. It was really, really hard to watch.
This must be Michigan day on Big Ten Network.
4:00 - Big Ten Basketball, Purdue @ Michigan (from Feb. 7, 2004)
6:30 - Big Ten Icons: Tom Harmon
7:00 - Big Ten Football, Illinois @ Michigan (from Nov. 6, 2010)
9:00 - The Journey: Darius Morris
9:30 - Big Ten Football, Notre Dame @ Michigan (Sep. 12, 2009)
11:30 - Michigan @ Iowa basketball. It doesn't say which year.
The Iowa basketball game is from the 2010-2011 season
I have compartmentalized 2008-2010 and completely forgotten about it. Watching the 2008 Capital One Bowl is my last memory...
Bad jokes aside, that Wisky game was crazy. We had a few Badgers in our section and man were they (justifiably so) ornery when the 2pt conversion failed.
Holy cow, was that Denard running down the field??
but I have a hard time forgetting how painful that first half was. Thank goodness for Wisconsin having to settle for 4 FGs.
However, watching the interception convoy roll into the endzone was the opposite of painful!
I'm talking to the redhead girl
Charlie Brown.
It's a crime that this isn't +5. That made me laugh out loud. Well done.
I would have just hit moderate, but I thought you should know that. Bravo
I have a massive panorama of the stadium from this game hanging over my bed... I'm reminded of the good times of Michigan football every day.
been so pissed and then so happy during the same game before... John Thompson was the cause for a lot of that...
Also was this game the biggest win of RichRods time at Michigan or was the Illinois win from last year, since that win made them bowl eligible???
Also could throw both the Notre Dame wins in the conversation too. I'd probably say the Wisconsin game, but with how the rest of that season went it's hard to feel really good about that pick
who were at that game and left at halftime......let you never forget that until the day you die.
Not when I got to move up a whole 30 rows at halftime, usually, in 2008. I paid for those tickets out of my own wages, and by God, I was going to watch the whole game. Even if the team was losing, at home, to Northwestern, in a driving rain storm.
2009 ND and 2010 Illinois were my favorite games from those seasons.
This game was the first time I had ever been in the Big House..great feeling that comeback provided, which was necessary to get us through the rest of that year.
Also...Proud to say I stayed for the whole game!
Been there for about 5 other games too, none as loud as that day. The John Thompson interception sent the place into utter chaos
I don't like how the announcers assumed we were making a "sarcastic cheer" when we gained our first first down of the second half. I thought that was a genuine sign of support from the crowd. When a team is down big, I think it's important to show the team you're still behind them.
Dude, that was definitely a sarcastic cheer. People in the stands were PISSED during that first half.
I hate to say it, but I get no enjoyment out of watching this game again. Absolutely, positively nothing came of it afterwards. In our next game, we got the shit kicked out of us, and then we went on to lose to Toledo and get blown out by Penn State and OSU. A lot of people at the time thought that this might be a turning point for us. Turns out, it was nothing at all. The horrible growing pains of the 2008 season never bore us fruit. The defense got even worse, and the improvements we made on offense in 2009 and 2010 were mostly due to guys like Robinson, Roundtree, Lewan, Forcier, Hemmingway, and Omameh, who didn't even play in 2008. 2008 was just a miserable lost year. Like an oil company investing billions of dollars to drill a dry hole. The Rodriguez years were filled with misery and the occasional false positive, and in the aftermath, I see little salvage value beyond two or three great recruits on offense. I keep lots of Michigan games on DVD, but I might just throw out all of my games from 2008 through 2010. Despite a few thrilling 4th quarter comeback victories, I want to forget that this shitty era ever existed.
