BBQ at big house
Summing up rivals article:
Might get a committment in a LB, Ken Wilkins. Thoughts on a committing but is talking it over with the fam.
Gardner said it was real fun and chilled with the players, playing video games.
Austin White really liked the BBQ. I've heard Austin wants to come to Michigan(heard it through the grapevine). But kind of wants to go out of state.
Lots of other players attended. It wasn't set up for giving out offers, just to meet the coaches in a laid back atmosphere.
Illinois reciever Kyle Prater (no.19 nationally), said his interest in michigan is VERY HIGH, he spent a lot of time with the coaches. Also spent lots of time with the godfather, Rich Rod.
Apparently Gardner and Prater hit it off well. After the BBQ they threw the ball around."He has a very nice arm" says prater.
Prater is 6'5 by the way. RR wants him to be X reciever(playmaker).
I've been waiting for a summary. I appreciate the info.
Excellent. Thank you very much for the update.
It's cool the coaches put something together that casual. If we (the fans) can see our way through 2-3 seasons of frustration, the team will be in a position for a BCS bowlk every year, with the chance for a National Championship every 5-7 years.
Hope that Sunday yields a commit or two. It would be nice to pick up CB Cullen Christian out of Pittsburgh, PA.
so I would not look for a commitment from him today.
Kyle Prater has the longest offer sheet I've ever seen on rivals. http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=87247&Sport=1
Those are his choices, not offers. Meaning all those schools have best shot.
Every school, even small schools offer every good player. No point in naming eveyr little school who offered.
If you look at the column marked offered you would see that all of those schools but one has offered. So before you try to make someone else look bad or yourself look good do some due diligence!
this is just wrong.
If they're is a 'check' in the box that means he got an offer (he has a lot of offers). Also, not every small school offers these top recruits and actually not many do b/c it is just a waste of an offer on their part. The guy has been offered by every big ten program minus tOSU, but they likely will too, and a whole host of other top programs.
Andrew Donnal is a good friend of mine from high school. He's been an OSU lean the whole time, and Tressel has been to our school once or twice to visit him. I asked him about the BBQ and Michigan and he said he actually really like Michigan, which is conflicting because he grew up an OSU fan. So, not the greatest news, but good to see Michigan is growing on him
....thank goodness he's interested in going to Michigan. I was concerned we weren't offering enough wide receivers in the 2010 class.
Good to see that the defense is going to take shape with these potential commitments in the coming weeks. Wilkins, maybe Ifill and Christian, the Utah D-lineman, and let's not forget about Caleb Lavey (who did that quick commit to Okie State). If we can get these kids and a few more who come out of nowhere during summer camps (a la Lewan last year), we'll solidify what the scouting services already rate as a top-5 class.
Prater was one of the first WRs we offered.
Kyle Prater is Kyle Prater. You FIND room for him if you have to.
Also, we've been offering other outside WRs pretty recently. So the coaches still want another one. I think Jerald Robinson or DJ Williamson (or both) is headed for defense.
do you think that Robinson or Williamson (or both) are moving to the defense with their informed consent? That seems to be this coaching staff's MO, I am just wondering if they would make that declaration to these kids one year before they even set foot on campus....
This is pure conjecture, but I think they might be Dewayne Peace-d. That is, if the coaches can pull in someone like Kyle Prater, then Rodriguez might say, "Look, Jerald. We've got a bunch of good receivers in this class. If you want to play safety for us, we'd love to have you. But if you're set on playing receiver, then maybe you should look elsewhere."
For now, I wouldn't be surprised if Jerald Robinson thinks he'll play receiver. But that could change. (The same goes for DJ Williamson, but I think Robinson would make a better safety than Williamson would make a cornerback.)
....heck, the ratings and his measurables seem to bear that out. It's funny to say "Kyle Prater is Kyle Prater" about a high school kid.
Would be an amazing pull. Sounds like everyone had a good time.
Tony Grimes said he was shocked how the visit went. He had high expectations because he's cool with Vlad Emilian, and Vlad has hyped us up. He then said the visit exceeded his expectations. He loves the coaches and was impressed by the academics. He's going to Ole' Miss this weekend, hopefully that trip blows and makes this trip look even better.
Why isn't Grimes getting any love from the recruiting services? He supposedly has offers from Alabama, Miami, Georgia and Ohio State. Could these be conditional offers or something?
Well, 166 lbs seems kinda skinny. And two, all those really shiny offers like OSU and Miami and Alabama came in just this month, which is probably before Rivals did their rating. And ESPN will have him at least at a 79, which isn't super-high but is about equivalent to a four-star.
Heard he didn't make the BBQ, no loss I guess, always a MSU lock
Heard Olayian (spelling) also didn't come out, that one is disappointing since he looks like a top tier player from instate.
had track meets on Saturday. That is why some didn't make it out.
GBW reporting that Ken Wilkins will either announce this Wednesday or next Wednesday.
He's supposed to have already verballed this weekend
...to discuss the trip with his family and then make a decision, according to the recruiting "wires."
He's actually the 5th rated corner on Scout, and Rivals will definately bump him up next time they update.
