Michigan Surges Up Burbridge's List

Submitted by detrocks on

Headline of paid article on Scout website saying that Burbridge was very impressed with recent trip to AA.  Also, Trieu tweet says that Michigan and Michigan State are essentially tied.  Man, if we can pick up one of the best wideouts in the country while also completing the demolition of the FHH Sparty stronghold, that would be yet another big recruting win for Hoke and crew.

Will try to respect the rules and say...in a nutshell he said he had a really good time, was impressed with the recruiting approach of the coaches, and would like to revisit with family soon. Would also like to take a few visits elsewhere prior deciding.

says picking between M and MSU is the difference between Burbridge choosing what is right for his friends, and what is right for him. What an ignorant post to think that a kid can't make up his own mind on what HE thinks is the right choice for him.

I fucked up big time in high school when my parents were divorcing.  The principals actually sat me down and advised me to drop out and go for my GED, or to go to the "Alternative Center for Education" and finish there.  However, combined with summer school and night school, I got the necessary credits, and finished with a 2.3

and I wound up in Ann Arbor with a 1/3 scholarship after a year and a half of college.

Come on, Aaron.  It can be done.

I'm pleasently surprised, I thought we had no shot at Burbridge even after we got Mario and Devin. Talk about a shot to the heart for Sparty if we can snag him. If things fall through, its sounds like we still have at least a decent shot at Dwayne Stanford too.

if he takes care of business in Summer School and then completes his Sr yr anything is possible.  Did he take his ACT yet with the rest of the Jr's throughout the state?

Even if he chooses little brother, or any other school for that matter,  over Michigan I wish him nothing but the best in getting academically qualified. Not everyone with the skills goes on to play in the NFL so a quality education, even from State, should be first and foremost in importance.  Good luck to you on whichever path you take.

Agree with that completely.  Football is important, but as well all know in football or any sport you are just one ligament/muscle tear away from never playing again.  Whatever his path may be, having the education to get through life should always trump the sports.

That being said, he could certainly help out both by working hard and getting that ultra-impressive Michigan education that is renowned the world over.  Keep working hard young man!

Perhaps not the best meltdown thread, but it does include a comment that's so full of fail I don't know where to begin:
I don't think we have much to worry about with Burbridge. Apparently he doesn't have a committable offer from scUM until he gets his grades up. We'll get him to commit before that happens.

Everyone questioning whether or not Michigan will offer Burbridge has no short term memory. We just signed Rawls, who had the exact same questions surrounding his grades. If we are recruiting him then there is a good chance that he has a realistic shot of having his grades in order by the time he graduates.

Hey why do sparty keep saying "msu has a proven track record of getting kids ready for the nfl"....they do? like who? They keep referencing Dell. Seriously...thats your reference?

Yeah, I don't get that either. If they wanted to reference a WR, go with Blair White. He wasn't drafted either, but he's playing pretty well. I was bored tonight and did some quick research, and found that in Dantonio's four years, he's had 7 players drafted (4 of which were in 2007, his first year). In RR's 3 years, he had 7 players drafted as well. So, I'm pretty sure that they're a bit delusional.

There's nothing more pointless than a bunch of random internet dudes sitting around and postulating about where a random high school kid's alleged grade issues stem from.

There has been a strong, persistent notion that Burbridge has grade issues.  That has been perpetuated by people whose job it is to find out these sorts of things.

Beyond that, let's not make any silly assumptions about his classroom habits, his study habits, his mental capacity, etc.  For all we know, he could have Asperger's Syndrome and be working until 2:00 a.m. every day to pay his family's grocery bills.

It is pointless for anyone to even speculate as to why he has these issues. It is also a big assumption to say that he may not have issues that could effect his ability to learn. It isn't like cases like that are rare these days. Hell, if I would have been in elementary school in the 90's I can say with absolute certainty that I would have been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD.

I guess my point is we should just lets this play out rather than making assumptions either way about a kid none of us even know. Good luck to him, and hopefully we will see him at UM.

you hit it right. There are an infinite number of variables that contribute to how well a high school kid does in school. Poverty, family dysfunction, disorders, poor schools/teachers, etc. While this might be foreign to some of the privileged who have attended UM, a kid growing up in a home without an expectation around higher education; a kid without parents who understand how to support a child's growth and development across the spectrum of needs, may struggle to make it to the next education level. Sometimes athletes just haven't had that sort of support during their formative years, and their potential has to be buttressed by self determination, and one hell of an external support system. I hope this young man is fortunate enough and smart enough to realize what UM offers, and how damn hard he must work to realize his potential. Go Blue!

that the UM coaches are interested in Burbridge.  That interest is being recipricated.  Whether or not he is a player that will be able to cut it academically at the D-I level is really a concern for him, his parents, and the coaches recruiting him.

I know I was trying to get my grades up in my junior/senior year and I appreciated the slack that was given me.  Granted, I was not a D-I athletic prospect (or D anything for that matter).  Let's give the kid some privacy, let him put in the work, and if he works out then great!  If not, I wish him all the luck in attending any other school he might qualify for.  Education has to be priority one.

My son runs track and cross country for a middle school in Farmington Hills. His track coach recently used Burbridge as a bad example not to follow. He just got 2 F's on his last report card!

Burbridge holds his middle school's school record for the 400M.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on this one.

Sounds like a Conaway (non-qualifier) repeat from last year. We need a receiver too badly in this class to take a chance on another nonqualifier.

I can't relate to any of this.
Rochester didn't offer cross country in middle school and we certainly didn't have Fs on our report card (A-E).

Having said that, things are messed up if the kid's report card gets around that easily.  I'd understand if your son's track coach also coached Aaron in middle school and is also friends with one of Burbridge's football coaches...  but even then, it's too transparent for my tastes.

Relax man drink some alcohol.

All school dstricts are different, especially with everyone is trying to reduce costs these days.

Middle school is 6-8 grades.

To establish my credibility, my son also told me that Ojemudia was going to commit to UM 2 weeks before it was announced. He heard it through one of his friends who knows his younger brother. I discovered after he had committed on one of UM internet sites that he was a silent commit, probably  for those two weeks.

Because of his 2 F's, Burbridge is not allowed to participate in his school's (Farmington Hills Harrison) track season this spring.

I think I will, actually.  NBA playoffs are on and I'm a thirsty man.

You're credible enough to me, I was just remarking on the differences.

I don't remember how high school elibility works.  Is he not allowed to play because his overall GPA is below a certain standard, or his previous semester's (marking period's)?

Also, does anybody know what Michigan's admissions minimum admissions standards are?  Is it the NCAA-wide 2.0, or higher?
