Agree that LB is our glaring weakness. I think issue is that teams don’t value an ILB highly (Bob Quinn excepted). To justify value they need to be a playmaker not just a tackler like Rodriquez we got in 6th round last year.

The Beilein and Howard comparisons are interesting. They are almost complete opposites. B was never an assistant. H was never a head coach. B had decades to refine his leadership and system while H is learning on the job. B was not a "player's coach" but H is much more and their recruiting reflects accordingly. It takes time as a leader to develop your voice, especially as a player's coach implementing X's and O's and especially discipline. Consider how B dealt with Jordan Poole versus how H dealt with Houstan. B was Mr. Integrity and H has had a few scrums reminiscent of Fab Five.
Hope he succeeds. Does not seem like a guy whose defense as a player consisted of “go cover their best receiver in man coverage” is inclined to be a tactical genius. If he can add substance to that flash could be something to watch.
I read Seth's post on the depth chart and thought we should be ranked #1 going into next year. Have not seen a team where we didn't have holes or thin at important positions in a long time. Started thinking of what could trip us up. We could even absorb a few of the usual injuries. Didn't consider pushing the self-destruct button from inside the program. Well played BPONE.
Having the Covid (second redshirt) year has exploded eligibility expectations. NIL does not allow signing free agents to long term contracts. Can’t keep ‘‘em all.
I always assumed that Harbaugh didn’t spend his time with a yardstick measuring lineman splits like Bo. He’s a leader more than a strategy machine like Saban and Belichick. Who would you rather have a cup of coffee with? Dan Campbell fits that mold as well. Young men need a leader more than selling their soul to Saban’s juggernaut.
This is the exact defense the Harbaughense was designed to dominate. I expect road-grading in full force. Their offense operating in full panic mode with QB scrambles and arm punts will keep it respectable. 42-24
Production is more three-dimensional (talent, character, coaching) than one-dimensional i.e. stars. Character - things like being humble, hungry, and smart. Players will hit their ceiling either talent-wise, Kovacs, or character-wise - take your pick. Quality coaching and leadership cover a multitude of sins. This has taken an obvious uptick with MacDonald, Minter, Moore, Clink, etc. They replaced system guys Brown and Gattis. Have all three dimensions and you get Hutch.
TCU seems like OSU Light and Purdue Extra. I do not see them stopping our offense or exploiting our defense. Though I expect them to fight through the bell and make us win it.
If there is good fit character (humble and hungry) and personality-wise, the Lions could stand to be the place where front office people go to resurrect careers ala Alabama with their assistant coaches. Holmes has done excellent in his first year with the draft and Stafford trade. It would need to be his call.
Kickers are like MLB closers they handle the pressure by either being robots ala Jason Hanson/Mariano Rivera or being mentally unstable ala Bironas/John Rocker.

But I saw him as slow, with poor technique on playing the ball, and inclined to mental mistakes. Can't see how having a "tough battle to keep his job" in a college secondary translates well to the next level. Prove the haters wrong VG.

I think the point is a hybrid type player to move around the defense. Not necessarily a true DE but OLB skill set.
If that’s the case Hooker (25) might be a late round flier.
