Video released of York Assault

Submitted by michchi85 on

Found here.  It's not pretty to watch, and York blindsides the guy.  After seeing this, I have a hard time seeing him back on this team.  Very cowardly.

The English Lord sounding receiving corp was never meant to be.  There was a time when it could have been Treadwell, York and Dukes.  It would have made for a lot of bad Sportcenter jokes.

Haven't watched the video yet because I'm at work, but there is no need to rush to judgment. He's appropriately suspended. Wait until the trial to decide what happened, and if witnesses decide he was provoked without cause. Im not condoning violence, but if a tough guy decides to say racist stuff 2 inches from your face and basically ask for a fight...I can't really feel sorry for him if he gets hit.

Again, haven't watched the video. Not necessarily defending York. But I'm OK with an indefinite suspension until we get some clarity and perspective.

Haven't watched the video and I like to form my own opinions. Not saying you or anyone else is wrong. I just think an individual should be innocent until proven guilty, and suspending him immediately after the incident was the appropriate decision.

I'll watch it later and you all are probably right. But I'll see for myself, and even then I'll wait until the courts and eyewitnesses complete the story.

There is absolutely no grey area in this case. It's all there plain as day on video. The only place "innocent until proven guilty" applies is for state administired punishment. People throw that statement around like it somehow exonerates obvious criminals from their actions until a judge rubber stamps it. The team can and should act now.

But I don't think he should be kicked off the team, suspended for the year? I'd say so...he definitely should have to work to get back on the team, but write him off because he is a young kid who made one bad mistake? I think he deserves a chance to redeem himself.

It certainly was a horrible decision and he should be punished. We've had kids picked up for drunk driving who "could" have killed someone. He's immature and has a lot to learn, fact is he didn't kill anybody and will likely be punished severely. I'm good with whatever BH decides.

To your point, if those kids got in a DUI car accident that could've killed someone, that would be a better analogy. I don't think people realize how easy it is for someone to die from a sucker punch—either from the initial blow itself, or from the head hitting the concrete immediately afterward. He may be charged with agg assault, but he could easily be charged with more. Kick him off the team and out of the school.

Did anyone else notice how the guy, that was talking to the man who was hit, moved out of the way really quick as if he knew what was going to happen?

Get him off the team NOW. Michigan doesn't need athletes like this, let alone students. Truly disgusting behavior. Hits a man when he isn't looking then runs away like a coward with his posse. In my opinion, Jones should be punished to some degree as well. It looks pretty damning that he set the guy up and took off running... He knew what was happening.

If this idiot isn't gone, Brady can kiss his "family values" line to the curb. It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another to attempt to inflict a devastating injury on someone who isn't even looking.

I was trying to figure out which character York was in the video and was completely blown away by the figure that inevitably threw the punch.  If I couldn't have seen it coming, there's no way the victim of the sucker punch could have, either.  Just gross.

who was sucker punched and suffered a broken jaw while protecting a girl, kick this garbage off the team. I don't care if he's 20. Throwing a haymaker when the guy isn't looking is beyond cowardly.

That makes me sick. I know that my opinion means nothing, but I would prefer to never see him in a Michigan uniform again. Yes, we all make mistakes, but some are simply worse than others. That really was a punk move.

People saying he could have killed someone is a bit of a reach. I can say the same thing about speeding or Glasgow drunk driving or anyone drunk driving. Yes this was an extreme overreaction to a guy running his mouth. The victim did not in anyway shape or form deserve this what so ever. York should be punished but the make the jump to murder from Agg. Assault is a giant leap one that needs to not be made. He should stay on the team similar to what we did with hagerup. Stop saying he could have killed someone.

False analogies here. People who speed or drive while intoxicated very rarely intend to kill other people. Disregard for human life? Yes, but intent to harm, rarely.

And there is a huge difference between aggravated assault on a victim who is aware of the confrontation and one who isn't even looking at you. Someone not expecting a punch to the side of his head from an athlete of York's strength is far more likely to be seriously injured and possibly die. It happens, not infrequently. If York had confronted that man face to face chances are we wouldn't even know about the incident. But that's clearly not what York wanted, York didn't want this man to defend himself or fight back.

He could have killed him, it's actually much more absurd for you to deny that. I won't do your homework for you, you can easily find multiple recent cases of people serving hard time because the helpless person they punched hit his head on pavement and died. I can point you to 3 within my city in the past 6 months. Granted, it's a pretty damn big city, but that's beside the point.

Fuck it, I'll do your homework for you; tell these familes how absurd it is to say York could have killed him:
