Updated Top-20 Michigan recruits in modern rankings era

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I'm about done with my SuperGuide post-NSD chaos updates after 6 hours of editing and inputting data on our 29 (+1 this weekend) new friends.

I shared with the board two years ago our Top-20 rated recruits in the modern rankings era since 2002, so I figure I would post an updated one since things have changed quite a bit since.

Back in that thread, Peppers was our highest rated guy ever.

Top-20:

2006 Justin Boren OG #40 4 star 0.9767
2005 Antonio Bass WR #56 4 star 0.9767

  • DPJ is our highest rated WR ever
  • DPJ had an elite offer list and could've went anywhere he wanted, unlike other skill position players on this list.

I don't know, I'd break it down like this:

TOO EARLY
Gary, Bredeson, DPJ, Solomon, Ruiz

STARS
Peppers, Mallett, Woodley, Graham, Henne, Manningham

ALL BIG TEN
Watson, Warren, Boren

SOLID STARTERS
Burgess, Jamison

MISSES
Grady, Green, Bass, Slocum

So, 4 total non-contributors out of 15. 9 out of the 15 were either outright stars or All B10 type players.

That JH, in 3 recruiting cycles, has added 6 of the top 20 overall recruits (in the past 14-15 years) Michigan has had.

To me, bottomline is that within the next few recruiting cycles, it will mostly likely be all JH recruits......

He is recruiting the Jimmys and Joes to go along with his coaching....

This is a very good thing......

In case you missed it, 5 of those players are currently on this team and no older than Sophomores. A quarter of the top talent recruited in Michigan's modern recruiting era are and will be on this team for at least two more years, I would say it's a great time to be a Wolverine!

And I fully expect this list to look different this time next year as Harbaugh continues to sink his teeth into this program and its recruiting. It may be a small class upcoming but I wouldn't at all be shocked if the overall player average is higher than this years and last with a few 5*s to boot. GO BLUE!!!
