UM-MSU Loudness/Maize out success

Submitted by goblueUM2012 on

I have a few questions and predictions about the maize out and loudness and I thought I would get the opinon of the MGoBoard.....

1) Do you think they will actually pass out maize shirts to everyone this year so its a true maize out? Or is it a stretch to pass out 110,000 shirts?

2) Do you think there will be enough MSU fans there wearing green to make the maize out look pretty lame?

--And heres the prediction....I think the beginning of the MSU and end (if its close) of the game might be the loudest the stadium has ever been. I just think it being a rivalry and losing two straight, the fans will feel desperate for a win. Plus the added boxes blah blah blah.... I know its not an outrageous or even relevant prediction, but I just wanted to see what everyone else was thinking.

So....thoughts?

1. The last time I can remember them passing out shirts was for a Blue Out back in 2002 (or some time back then), so I doubt it.

2. MSU fans won't make the maize out look tame, but the October weather probably will. Last year's maize out against Notre Dame was the best one we ever had, but with it potentially being cooler, people will be more inclined to just wear what keeps them warm rather than something maize. If the weather is nice, though, it could be better than I personally expect it to be.

I did my duty last year when we were suppose to have a maize out for that crappy weather against Penn State, I bought a maize sweatshirt, and a maize stock cap, problem solved, no excuses unless its snowing.

I'm not worried about the readers on this board finding a way to get their outer most shirt to be maize.  I'm worried about the grandmas - they were wearing winter coats to the Bowling Green game.  If it starts raining or dips below 50 degrees, it will be difficult to get them to comply with the Maize Out.

I'm generally not in favor of handing out shirts at the game - lots of volunteers to coordinate and a lot of lines to wait in.  When you renew season tickets, it wouldn't be difficult to add some boxes for you to check the shirt sizes you want, and send out T-shirts with your season tickets.  Of course, in this world, there would be an option to exchange your shirt at the M-Den store at the game if you accidentally ordered the wrong size.

I am mildly offended and deeply depressed at the same time. I turned 35 Sept. 3. Yesterday I was listening to NPR and they talked about "young adults between the ages of 25-34" and I thought, shit, does that make me, gulp, MIDDLE AGED? I hadn't even thought about that title before. But I guess its true. If a person can live to be 100, 35 is definetely in the middle with 67 being the start of "old age".

Anway, my real point is that I can excuse people who are in the "old age" category because, well, good for them for getting out and supporting the team. But any 35 year olds out there better get their shit together, wear maize and cheer their heads off. The MSU game this year is the most important game this year by far and ime the most important game since OSU 2006.

For the cold weather maize outs, I wear my maize UM hockey jersey. What a great excuse to have a maize hockey jersey - fits perfectly over all outter jackets, etc.

And no, there will not be enough Sparties in the house to make it look bad. I would like to see the Student Section's block M back for that game though - I think that does look pretty cool.

Go Blue!

I'm gonna be there and i'm going to be doing my best to know that Cousins can't even see straight because it's so loud let alone try and run that offense and think straight. I was at the Penn St. game last year for that "maize out" it was sad. I read on some posts because of the weather will be so cold that people will be bundled up and not wear maize. I personally will be wearing the official 2010 season shirt w/ maybe some under armor or something under it to stay warm.

almost never are totally maize outside of the student section. There will be MSU fans there, but it should not (hopefully) be ridiculous. The older people never wear maize over their winter coats. That is why Ohio State games are never Maize Outs, they do not even bother trying.

Yes, if the game goes well, it could be the loudest ever at the stadium...especially if both teams are undefeated going into it.

The student section does a good job with the maize out, the rest of the sections are hit or miss most of the time. When will people figure out that it will look awesome if everyone is wearing maize, plus it also serves a function to intimidate the opposition? I wish there was an email list for everyone attending the game to remind them to wear maize. I really don't care if they'd rather wear their "lucky blue jersey" that they've been wearing for the past how long. Wear it under a sweatshirt or just leave it at home. Also someone needs to let the section below the pressbox to participate in the wave more.

Go Blue. Wear Maize.

The official color of scary.

The problem is that our colors aren't really conducive to it. Good for basketball, not so much for football.  Because people aren't going to wear bright yellow that much in their daily lives. And it's Michigan, so those daily wear coats that are necessary are probably blue. But blue doesn't show up that well.  It's not white or green or red.

but I don't know that teams really get intimidated by that.  If that's intimidating you as a football team, you probably weren't going to win the game anyway.

Maybe you can send out an email too to tell the students what time the game starts, so they're there before the end of the first quarter.  As long as we're sending out these important notifications.
