UM's Lawyer: Former Head of NCAA Infractions Committee
A little tidbit of info from a DetNews article today:
"Michigan's ace-in-the-hole might be [Gene] Marsh, who is a former chairman of the Committee on Infractions. Marsh is responsible for preparing the proposed response, for Coleman's approval."
An experienced attorney from the other side of the table? I'm willing to bet that it makes a difference. Well done to the person that brought him in for the response.
not an idea the compliance team came up with.
Not to be a pessimist, but with the way things have been going lately.... do we know why he is a FORMER chairman of the Committee on Infractions? Can I assume it is a term based position? Did he leave amicably?
Former NCAA Lawyer'd.
I'm sure it helps, not only because he knows the rules better than anyone else in the room, but also because he probably knows the key players and knows the kinds of things the NCAA looks for.
AD has showed us Michigan Athletics is in good hands

I never tire of that photo of Chris Floyd. One of my favorite players ever.
he's a buckeye, dont trust him
Well played, Brandon. As an attorney myself, I can tell you that in proceedings of this nature (small group of players who all know each other), the most important thing that you can do is bring in an insider. The importance of having someone who not only knows the rules, but who has credibility with the decision maker cannot be overstated.
He was retained before Brandon was hired. I think the credit goes to Martin or, more likely, Coleman.
I agree that this was a good move, for all the reasons you say.
hoping for Bob Loblaw.

This was a topic of conversation a long while back. IIRC, someone suggested that the idea was to bring in the biggest sonofabitch, OSU lovin', NCAA type to audit things so that everything was beyond reproach. I'm sure that the NCAA will respect the investigation results.
Ever think that maybe Marsh is the Buckeyes "ace-in-the-hole"?
When I read he is an OSU alum, I had bad feeling in my stomach.
That man is a pure genius.
...unless the NCAA sees it as a transparent ploy to influence them.
nice avatar!
That picture of the team on the link is badass.
